Chewin some gum. You?

Part review, part question thread...

I don't try new things as often as I'd like, but with NP's killer New Year's sale, I took the opportunity to spend a few nickels and stock up on some essentials. My new product to try was Thermogum. Now, I'm not expecting much of anything, certainly no miracles, but I thought I'd put my thoughts up on it here and see what others have to say about it.

Flavor:
At first, the flavor is a bit on the herbal side, as I'd expect given the ingredients. But after a few chews, just enough to get the gum loosened up, the herbaly goodness seems to fade away into a quasi-spicy and somewhat fruity flavor. It's kinda like orange zest. The first bite has a bit too much of the bitter peel to it, but the next ones are just zesty. It's labeled as "raspberry cinnaminferno", which I find kinda odd. Perhaps it's got a razz ketone kinda zing, but not like eating berries off the vine. Cinnaminferno? That's....creative. But it fits, so I won't argue about it. ;) Overall, the flavor is surprisingly good. Kudos.

Duration:
My gripe about the average gum is that it loses flavor too fast. Some of the best flavors IMO (like fruit stripe gum of old) lost it after about 5 minutes. Thermogum seems to rage on for quite a while. I'd say it goes for atleast 30-45 minutes. Again, kudos.

Stim:
I'm nowhere near stim sensitive, so I really wasn't expecting anything at all here. However, I've popped a piece in my face a few minutes before a board meeting (today) and it did pick me up. It puts a little spring in the step, but doesn't make me fly off the walls by any means. To me, it's mild, but appreciable. Kudos once more.

Losses:
I can't even comment on this one. I'm half way through one pack and am not really using it for the "intended purpose". I can see how it might be a weightloss aid in a few facets, though. Mainly in the following category:

Appetite Suppression:
Not sure if this was intentional, but I think it's fairly well known that chewing gum can stave off cravings. Almost any gum will do it most times, and this one doesn't fail in that department either. Combined with the relatively long-lasting flavor, it certainly helps to curb the appetite for a bit. Good job.

Economy:
The NP sale made it a little more affordable. In the world of gum, this is Don Perignon-priced. In the world of supplements, I guess it's on-par. Buying it at a single-pack price (which I did, in 2 orders from NP this month), it's $5/pack for 10 pieces. Recommendations are 2/day, so a pack = 5 days. Buy 6 packs to fill roughly a month, and the price is up to $30. Buy 'em in bulk with the sale right now, and it's certainly cheaper. But overall, that's pretty on-par with other fatloss supplements out there.

Overall:
Though I can't comment on any changes in the scale, the product seems pretty solid. It's certainly unique in the marketplace and there's nothing about it that one can really argue with. Sure, the price factor for "a pack of gum" is a bit lofty, but considering the purpose of the gum, it's efficient and weighs in as a viable option to any stacking needs.

I bought one pack to try and turned around to order one more 2 weeks later. To me, it's a win. Thermogum, you've got my thumbs-up.
:biglaugh:

Now it's your turn. Anybody chompin out there that wants to weigh in on it? Pun intended?

I like the idea of it, although I don't use anything with sucralose, aspartame, fructose or hfcs in it. I try to stay away from sucrose as well unless it is contained in organic maple syrup. If they started to use Stevia extract in it I would buy/use it all the time as I have not found a gum that meets that requirement yet.

Good philosophy right there. I'd agree to staying away from a lot of those, particularly in bulk. Then again, I don't. (Maybe it's because I live by the "gotta die from somethin'" philosophy?)

Question on stevia, though... Whilst walking around the local wallymart, a table was promoting the new stevia/sugar blend substitute that's "new". They handed out sample packets to try, and instead of waiting for an appropriate cup of tea, the wife and I opened the packet and tried a little bit on our tongue. Is it supposed to be THAT bitter? I'm supposing it sweetens in a drink, but that initial aweful taste just sticks with me and doesn't exactly convince me to buy in just yet.

OOHH man yes. There are some nasty stevia products out there. The first time i tried some in coffee i was like..never again ugh. This company makes the good stuff Invalid Link Removed
These ones being the top of the line. Invalid Link Removed
Organic maple syrup that is high grade is beneficial as well.
I still have cheat days where I have something thats bad for me, whats that saying "whats life without a little salt'? I just don't have it very regularly.

Life's too short to watch EVERYTHING ya eat. :D Still, my #1 favorite sweetener is honey. It doesn't matter what flower, it's all good. :)
