Carb Sources For Shakes

Since I can't get Glycomyx for a little while, I need to find a good very low GI powdered carb source for my meal replacement shakes. I've ordered palatinose and will try that, but from what I've read it's half glucose half sucrose which is less then optimal for gains, correct? Trehalose is hard to come by these days it seems also. Any recommendations out there?

Muscle Feast has several good options for powered carb options. I use "Carbo Lean."

You can find it on amazon for pretty cheap.

Just looked it up, but it's a blend of high GI carbs and won't work well for my purposes.

Can you use plain old oatmeal? Are you using this carb powder intra workout?
I'm using for breakfast or any other meal I don't have time for a real meal. Did you mean grinding up oats and mixing it with protein powder? Sounds a little gross, but not much different from what I'm doing now. I'll put 30-40g of carbs with 2 scoops of protein in a shaker bottle and leave it until I'm ready to drink it then I'll add water. Right now I'm using baby food oats or rice cereal lol. It's working well, but a little weird tasting.

Did you look at any of their other carb products? I think they have a low GI one. I was just saying Carbo Lean is what I use.

Ohhhh, I missed the whole oat powder. That sounds interesting and might work well. It's gotta be better then baby food oats, amirite? lol

Just put some oats in a blender and it will turn to powder, cheap, effective, and probably more nutritious than powders.
 
I've been using real food by %5 nutrition for when I need some extra carbs. Tasty stuff and it's real food

I use it in strictly peri-workout, mostly intra, along with a couple scoops of BCAAs.
 
Just put oats in it raw. Sounds weird if you've never done it but it's good as ****. Take the shaker ball out though.
 
Making a sandwich will take much less time than making a shake. Or just don't replace meals with shakes. Or just prepare your meal the night before.

MyProtein has powdered oats. It's like $10 for 5 lbs. Three scoops is 71g of carbs. It mixes pretty easily but I've found better luck by mixing it a scoop at a time.
 
I agree with Ant. We buy plain oats & I put them in our Ninja blender & blend until they are completely powdered. Mixes well enough & is so much cheaper than buying other options!
 
This. Cheap and legit option.

This was around 12.99 for 11lbs without any extra codes last time I purchased, and I got buy 2 get 1 free at the time. Much easier and better results than grinding your own IMO. It WILL mix just fine even in a blender bottle, at work I do 2 scoops pro, 3 oats.

Yeap, it mixes so easily and it tastes good. This, with some olive oil and maybe a reds or greens formula is my meal at work the last 5 years

Just throw some apples, plums, peaches, etc. (fruits high in fructose) in your blender with the protein.

I'm not actually using a blender, just putting the raw powder in my shaker bottle until ready to add water and drink.

I blend mine all at once. I don't use a blender for my shakes either. I buy the oats in bulk & blend a large pyrex storage container full at a time. Then I just add a scoop (about the size of an average protein powder scoop) or 2 into my shake.

General lack of taste and not crazy thick consistency is good in my book. I'm thinking about adding some macadamia nut oil. Do you just bring the whole bottle of oil to work and mix there? I'm worried about rancidity.

A powdered fat source would be awesome too.

At home I pour two spoons of oil in my shaker. When the time comes I add the protein and oats that are stored in the additional compartments of the shaker with water. Clean and fast
 
If you go the oat powder route, why would you not make your own? Buy oats and that's it. A blender or food processor too if you don't have either. Everyone should have either one of those in their kitchen anyways, IMO. So much cheaper to make your own.

Making them is just as convenient, IMO. No need to order before you run out, etc. It literally takes a couple minutes to do, and far less costly in the long run.

I don't use them regularly. I also don't have a blender or food processor. Also, I already order protein and can get 11 lbs for less than $10 with shipping. 16 oz of store brand oats isn't going to much less.

I only use oats if I'm too busy too cook or if for whatever reason I've skipped carbs all together that day and need to get some in for my macros.

Fair enough. I use oats a lot when baking. So, it's just easier for us stock up & make the powder ourselves as needed.

Honestly I am not worried at well under $1/lb. Its even cheaper than dextrose. I have been unable to grind my own to the same level of mixability/smallness and I always ended up making a mess. Plus I can just toss it with some protein in a zip lock bag and its a mrp that is ready to go.

In the grand scheme of things, I've blown wayyyy more money on much dumber supplements. You aren't wrong, its just that it's a drop in the bucket as far as my total grocery bill goes. I don't even notice it.

This is what I do! Works great. You can buy oat flour (ground up oats) from most bulk food stores as well.

The type of blender/processor used can make a difference on how fine you get it. My Ninja blender/processor combo actually gets it finer than the powder we ordered one time. Most stores near us do not carry powdered oats. So, it's just easier for us to use what we already buy in multiple ways.
 
If you guys haven't tried it, put some uncooked steel cut oats in a pure chocolate casein shake (blended fairly thick with ice). Comes out a bit like rocky road ice cream or something like that.
 
Wow! I was reading through this before I shared what I have been using and now I think I'm going to start using the oats. Thanks for all the oats posts.

I showed my girlfriend that when they first posted it. We don't know how to feel. Have you tried it? They have some really appetizing, interesting stuff sometimes.

Also, wine about it is a must.

I guess I did not word my question correctly.

Let's say 1 cup of dry oats provides 54g of carbs. Once ground up, how can I figure out how many grams of carbs I'm getting? If I want to grind up a few cups and keep them readily available instead of grinding up 1 cup at a time every time I need them. How can I figure out how many grams of carbs I'm getting in 1 cup of ground up oats? Obviously there would be more oats in 1 cup if ground up vs 1 cup of oats in their normal form.
