Really. I have been on it for 5 or so years; straight. Didnt know this. I have insomnia really bad. I am also on prescrip. amitriptyline (Elavil) 25-50mg per night. Would this product then be better a daily nighttime replacement?

Just wanted to bump this and see if dsade could address this and maybe suggest this or another product for every night usage for sleep trouble.

You should talk to your doctor, of course....

but ZMA, Melatonin, and tryptophan are all good choices to use, and you can always rotate them.

If nothing works, then talk to your doctor about indica...

dsade, I thought you were not a big fan of melatonin. Could you clarify that for us? Thanks. For me, I have not had a whole lot of luck with melatonin. ZMA does not put me to sleep, but when I sleep, it seems to be deeper which helps.

ok heres my l-trypto feedback

day 1. tried 4 caps(2grams) before bed didnt notice anything really felt "refreshed in the am tho

day2. upped the dosage to 5 caps and bam.knocked me out nicely felt awesome when i woke up really didnt wanna get out of bed but once i did i felt great

day 3. stayed with 5 caps same effects

tonight will be day 4.right now i am working nights on a 12 hour schedule so this is actually helping nicely hopefully it continues to work,i have one more night of 12 hours and then 3 days off and i switch to days.so i am def interested in seeing how this help me sleep while i rotate shifts i will keep you updated.jsut for reference i take the l-trypyophan with food,my last mealwhen i get home before bed

I'm interested in seeing its effects reprogramming circadian rhythms, as well. This could be VERY good for people with rotating sleep schedules.

Indeed Dsade. Actually Trytophan is a precursor to melatonin. I'll be using it for sleep and I like to added benegit of a natural way to boost serotonin.

yea if people only knew the benefits of using this,i read a article a long time ago about how good of a anti-depreesant l-tryptophan is,that when it wa yanked from the shelves in the eights because of a contaiminated batch from japan i believe it made way for prozac and other drugs. i will def be buying this

500 mg per 50lbs of bodyweigth is what i used to take

Ye it was Showa Denka labs(Japan) they used a different manufacturing process(fermentation is standard) and the batches were contaminated. anyhow a few hundred or so people and many were hospitalized... crazy stuff

Guys, back off on the dosages. 500 mg to 1.5 grams per day is enough, anything more than that will have reverse effects. It has something to do with enzymes.

wHO HERE TRYED nUTRA'S caps?

Vegking have you tryed them , what dose did you go up to and how does it work?

I'm sure they pharmaceutical grade (aka pure), as Nutra has always been good to me. Has anyone tested this batch? i ask because testing of this is easy to get since the just made it legal again for people to purchase since the horrid Japan accident that put over 1,000 people in serious condition.

I tried them, used up to 2g, but usually do 1g at bed and .5g in the morning. I'm trying using just .5 at bed now and it seems to be working just as good. But, I do use Powerful for sleep purposes nightly as well.

The Nutra-Caps are a staple for me since late last year. They help me sleep better and deffinately help my mood and ability to handle stress. Just great stuff from NP as usual.

Yeah, I tried it. If you are low on serotonin, it will help. Make sure to take on a emty stomach and maybe with B3 or B6. A lot of people do not get enough tryptophan in their system to make serotonin because other amino acids compete with it. There is a good thread on the supplement board with some good info. Check it out.

Dsade since Typtophan is a precursor to melatonin , does it effect testosterone levels?

I know after a long peroid of time melatonin decreases testosterone levels.(one in a while is ok)

It's an indirect conversion, and one that your body performs anyway.

In my Hypothesis there is also a rebound in test levels (hence morning test spikes) in the morning, possibly related to melatonin levels, but this is as yet unproven.

You should not be concerned with supplemental levels of tryptophan.

Agreed. You're not adding supraphysiological doses of melatonin, rather you are simply giving your body the proper substrate to makes it's own prescribed amounts of melatonin so there should not be any problems.

Typtophan needs to be taking without any other amino acid's.

Gaba is an amino acid, yes?

L-theanine?

Im thinking of stacking the two but not sure if they would cancel out each other's effect. if Im not mistaken gaba is a amino acid and neurotransmitter(?) I put the question mark because Im unsure. I know its a neurotransmitter

Done my first bag almost.Soon going on second. good reviews thus far.

I'm not sure GABA is an AA, but it would compete with Tryptophan at the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB), as would L-Theanine. But you should be fine using 2-3 AA at the same time despite the competition. The problem of competition really comes into play when you get more than a handfull of AAs (say 8 or more from a normal protein source) trying to enter the BBB at the same time; there is only so much room divided up between all the AAs you use at any given time so to speak. Using 2-3 different AAs shouldn't be a problem judging from my experience with Tryptophan.

I found the research you dont need to take b6 with it , if your getting enough b6 daily. i have been taking in b6 combined while getting in enough b6. although up too 400 mgs of b6 has a good effect on something(I think cholesterol)
