BJJ vs NFL player

The vid said John McLaughlin. Could be wrong though. It's impressive to see how skill can surpass size and strength. The football player had a nice sprawl in there. I wonder if he had some wrestling experience, or perhaps just a fan.
 
I am suprised how long the football player lasted. You could tell his conditioning was nothing compared to the wrestler and he still stayed in there a long time especially the last match.

It did look like he knew how to sprawl. Either way Gil put it on him....those were some killer cross faces he did to him.
 
well, no sh!t the BJJ guy won. put him on the football field and see how it works out. that's like asking fedor to compete in badminton.

I could actually see Fedor being really good at Badminton because of his reflexes. I see your point though.

The reason the grappling match happened was because of the FP disrespect. He was on a radio show saying that he could beat any UFC figther. That day Gil happened to be listening so he came down to the station to prove to him he was wrong. He got what was coming to him.

I was always taught to respect everyone no matter what sport you compete in. There's honor in every sport where there is passion and dedication.
 
fair enough. talk sh!t, gotta back it up. then again, i would be more convinced with an actual MMA fight, not just BJJ.

Right, if that football player knows how to punch at all, he could probably beat Gil in MMA. Gil would'nt be able to shot like that either, he would eat a knee for sure.
 
I've seen this same matchup many times! I have seen 170 pound bjj blue belts own 250 pound+ football players. Sure, MMA rules might help the bigger guy a little! I do also know for a fact that ANY decent 170 pound mma fighter would still win regardless of rules. After about 5 leg kicks mr lineman would tuck his tail between his legs! You really cannot compare a trained fighter with someone who is not a fighter. I know some guys who train 6 days/week and make all of their income from fighting, endorsements etc. Real mma fighters are no joke!
 
I think it's worth pointing out, though, papa, that there are stronger, more athletic, more explosive, and more dynamic NFL players than McLaughlin that Gil would have a harder time with.

And some NFL players actually do have some fight training and experience, and do well when matched against professional fighters, all things considered. If I'm not mistaken, a former Rams linebacker knocked down Rob Kaman once in the late 80s.
