Its just thats the way i've always seen the entitlements and handouts. If I guarantee you a house, and food, and clothing, and cable tv and a cellphone and a car without you having to work or educate yourself, how likely are you to try? will you just site and play on your PS3 in the house instead?

Within a family, the cycle of proverty continues because they are engulfed in the way they were raised. If a parent/parents don't have the desire to work, have some sort of self-respect, strive to change, children will mimic their parents and set a mentality that that is the way life should be lived. I agree with Easy, we were dirt poor. Everything that was purchased by my parents, either for us or the house, it was used but my parents did teach us to respect those around us and most of all, respect ourselves.

All poor people smoke crack? All people that live in the ghetto smoke crack? What are you even talking about anymore? Drugs hasn't been part of the issues we are discussing although relevant, if we want to get into drugs that's a completely different discussion altogether. Stay on point.

By accepting that the poverty causes their crime which causes their poverty. By them being stuck in a "viscious circle" which they can't get out of on their own. Thats defeatist. Every person has a responsibility for their actions. This isn't the sort of probelm that the outside world can fix. If you gave everyone in the ghetto $100k, it wouldnt solve it as they'd buy escalades with rims, jewelery, etc and by 3 days later they'd be broke again, and back to holding up liquor stores or selling rock for cash.

I'm sorry, but no. I am a realist. I understand what happens. I do agree that they have to fix their problem themselves. If you would take a gander at what I've posted you would see that. You are going off on tangents now and pulling out things from left field. If you don't want to accept that poverty increases crime, then don't. I'd like nothing more than for people to educate themselves, but it's not going to happen. Sorry to burst your bubble. The best chance of these people pulling themselves out of a mess is to gain employment and use that as a starting block to become a responsible member of society.

If you'd like to further discuss it stay on point with what we are talking about rather than pulling out other issues. It would go on forever that way.

and theres the defeatist. You agree that they have to fix the problem themselves at the beginning, but then say they wont. You can't expect to be reasonably employed if you can't reasonably communicate, or have no skills - ie the results of getting an education. It is a vicious circle, but its not one that people outside of the circle can fix.

Differing points of view, discussed in a civil and cogent manner is how we learn to make it better. Its not going to happen overnight. At least I know there are people intelligent enough to make it happen. A better life for people? There is nothing racist about that.
