AIM: To study the absorption characteristics of berberine and its influence on glucose absorption. METHODS: Rat recirculating perfusion model was used to study berberine absorption characteristics and Caco-2 cell model was used to explore the influence of berberine on disaccharidase, using HPLC to assay the appearance of glucose to indicate enzyme activities. RESULTS: Berberine was found to be hardly absorbed in the intestine (less than 5% in 2.5 h). However, sucrase and maltase activities were found to be inhibited by berberine, its ID50 to sucrase is 1.830 mg.L-1, and showed no dose dependent influence on maltase activity. Berberine also showed influence on glucose absorption. However, this effect is not significant. CONCLUSION: Berberine may act as an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, which is its main mechanism in diabetes treatment.

Since alpha-glucosidase inhibitors prevent the degradation of complex carbohydrates into glucose, the carbohydrates will remain in the intestine. In the colon, bacteria will digest the complex carbohydrates, thereby causing gastrointestinal side effects such as flatulence and diarrhea.
It would be nice if usplabs considered selling bulk yellow gold (original) powder or have to anabolic pump products - AP - original formula and AP Plus - the current newer formula. I think those wanting the feeling they had with YG are going after the Berberine.
I believe the bulk Yellow Gold being sold by Nutraplanet right now is the same as the original YG.
i was under the same impression - tbh - some of the info in this thread caught me by surprise. but back to the point - will they carry it indefinitely and is it being supplied by USP?
For those interested I decided to run a 5 day test of berberine. I capped 300mg + 200mg dextrose as filler. I'll be taking 3 caps per day. I'll post the results along with further details once I'm done.
Looking forward to it.
Are you at liberty to disclose whether the Np YG is the same as the USPlabs YG?
I finished my 5 day test. I didn't notice much, if anything. Pumps may have been increased slightly. Weight fluctuated a lot despite a fairly consistent diet.

300mg berberine + 200mg dextrose filler per cap, 3 caps per day. Always dosed a few minutes before a meal. All meals contained high carbs. I currently eat 3900 kcal on workout days and 3500 kcal on off days with 50% carbs. Can you clarify your dosing protocol and diet (especially carb intake)?
