I'm gonna give it another try...I tried it a few months back, and it had some unpleasant gas effects (and almost acidic bowel movements...seriously, I was on the verge of tears. It hurt that bad lol!). It only happened over a 2 day span after I'd been taking it for a few days, so who knows what really caused it...

Anyone having gas problems with barberine?

AIM: To study the absorption characteristics of berberine and its influence on glucose absorption. METHODS: Rat recirculating perfusion model was used to study berberine absorption characteristics and Caco-2 cell model was used to explore the influence of berberine on disaccharidase, using HPLC to assay the appearance of glucose to indicate enzyme activities. RESULTS: Berberine was found to be hardly absorbed in the intestine (less than 5% in 2.5 h). However, sucrase and maltase activities were found to be inhibited by berberine, its ID50 to sucrase is 1.830 mg.L-1, and showed no dose dependent influence on maltase activity. Berberine also showed influence on glucose absorption. However, this effect is not significant. CONCLUSION: Berberine may act as an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, which is its main mechanism in diabetes treatment.

Since alpha-glucosidase inhibitors prevent the degradation of complex carbohydrates into glucose, the carbohydrates will remain in the intestine. In the colon, bacteria will digest the complex carbohydrates, thereby causing gastrointestinal side effects such as flatulence and diarrhea.

I've had more gas than usual. I'm not sure if this was asked or answered in here but, does berberine need to be cycled? How long do you want to manipulate glucose/insulin?

Bump

Manipulating glucose thru a decreased need for insulin shouldn't have any detrimental effects that I can think of. The pancreas is still producing some insulin just not as much, which in the long term would probably be pretty beneficial with the decreased stress placed on the pancreas. The other properties of Berberine I'm not to sure about though.

Edit: By the way, anybody using Berberine noticing INCREASED regularity?

i bought 25 grams of berberine and did a 2 week run with it...i used about 500 mg 3 times a day, 15 mins before eating..noticed some better pumps/vascularity, and felt less bloated from it.....bought another 50 grams of it and some anabolic pump to compare the two......does anybody think that it could be beneficial to take 1 anabolic pump pill and about 300 mg of berberine?

Could be, I'd just watch for hypo symptoms.... as it could easily give you to much of a good thing.

Bump for more berberine discussion. I'm going to be playing around with it over the next few days. Anyone else have any feedback?

It would be nice if usplabs considered selling bulk yellow gold (original) powder or have two anabolic pump products - AP - original formula and AP Plus - the current newer formula. I think those wanting the feeling they had with YG are going after the Berberine.

I believe the bulk Yellow Gold being sold by Nutraplanet right now is the same as the original YG.

i was under the same impression - tbh - some of the info in this thread caught me by surprise. but back to the point - will they carry it indefinitely and is it being supplied by USP?

I don't know about the details but the fact that USPlabs hasn't objected or tried to draw a differentiation between the Nutraplanet YG and their products indicates to me (and I could be mistaken) that they are providing it or have licensed it somehow to NP.

For those interested I decided to run a 5 day test of berberine. I capped 300mg + 200mg dextrose as filler. I'll be taking 3 caps per day. I'll post the results along with further details once I'm done.

Looking forward to it.

I finished my 5 day test. I didn't notice much, if anything. Pumps may have been increased slightly. Weight fluctuated a lot despite a fairly consistent diet.

Are you at liberty to disclose whether the Np YG is the same as the USPlabs YG?

Short answer? I have no idea. I handle the bulk ingredients and I negotiate with other companies for exclusives (such as Avant and hopefully soon, Molecular).

I would assume anything being sold as "yellow gold" would be the same as the brand name, much like Bulk Sesathin.

Can you clarify your dosing protocol and diet (especially carb intake)?

Just thought it was worth throwing it in that I've had nice results recently from YG as I did when it first came out. I've cut carbs pretty low and use 3-4, 300-500mg doses a day. I'm hypoglycemic so I've got to be careful, but even with carbs reduced as low as they are, I stay looking full on this stuff. In the gym pumps are pretty unreal. I thought I read where Dr. D said to take YG after your heavier carb meals as apposed to before as the carbs may not be absorbed as well when taken before (don't quote me on this though). I'll keep this as a staple for cutting, probably bulking too, but when cutting I usually deflate pretty bad and that reaks havoc on my state of mind.

Yes. If I take more than 500mg, I pretty much get explosive fire poops.

But at 400mg, I am fine.

300mg berberine + 200mg dextrose filler per cap, 3 caps per day. Always dosed a few minutes before a meal. All meals contained high carbs. I currently eat 3900 kcal on workout days and 3500 kcal on off days with 50% carbs.

I did a test with 500mg berberine and a glucose monitor before. 15 min after taking it I was hypo but bounced back 15 min later. I have no doubt that berberine works, it just didn't seem to do a whole lot for me at those dosages for 5 days. I'm going to try running it for longer in the future and at higher doses. I also want to try banaba, I have 10g sitting around.

Is this still in the works?

Joe

I think we are going to do Berberine caps, with Banaba as an add-on powder...this was the feedback we got as to what customers would purchase.

Nutracap production is a bit bottlenecked right now, keeping up with demand.
