Benadryl - Which one to take to help sleep

I've taken up to 100mg of diphenhydramine/night. But works best for me is 3mg of melatonin. I've taken melatonin with diphen. but slowly dialed back the diphen. Melatonin alone works best for me, and I'm on a high tren cycle. I used to wake up 3-4 times/night and the melatonin makes me sleep through.

3G of melatonin last night gave me a very large sleep hangover today. Will continue with melatonin until the diphenhydramine arrives and will dose both very low

That is what I was saying happens to me. I can never shake it either and am in a cranky fog all day.

try going to the gym before work for a week
I think nurse grey may have a solid point. also take a look at your pre work out.. sometimes creatine can trigger your alertness

dont take pre workout. only bcaa's (from finaflex ;) ) during

Cant gym before work, time to travel to work etc just isnt happening. Also I moved gyms to train with people, no one is going to gym at 6am

Alphamine in the morning didnt get rid of the sleep hangover, still kind of in it now....might try 2mg melatonin tonight

KavaKava is nice for anxiety and/or sleep IMO

You stated no one is going to the gym at 6am. Is working out with people more important than your gains. I work from 9-5 as well right now in real estate on the side of nursing and I have to work out at 7 am

Its just frustrating because I just moved to a far more expensive gym to workout with people. Also I found when I gymed upon waking up, my weights were significantly down, which was frustrating.

But I guess youre right, health > gains tbh

Sounds like excuses already creeping in your head, so you better knock that crap off now. Also, just a thought, but I know when I had sleep issues in the past it was due to anxiety and that caused a ripple effect that started to have me thinking about sleep and that then caused sleep issues. Maybe try not to let this consume you and have you taking different supplements chasing it.

Today I've come down with a massive cold so, not sure if the bad sleep the last few days has anything to do with that. Whether the cold caused the sleep deprivation or the sleep deprivation caused the cold!

Also, I wasnt making excuses against gyming, just saying that I could see their point in going pre-work and sacrificing training partners.

the problem with alcohol at night is when it's all metabolized, the body gets low blood sugar, sending an adrenaline spike which can wake people up. That said, I drink often and melatonin trumps all that

It's actually due to glutamatergic rebound and GABA-A desensitization

there are numerous studies showing a glass of red is beneficial for heart health

It is generally known now that a "glass of red" is beneficial only in elderly populations and those with cardiovascular pathology. It is not recommended or deemed beneficial in young, exercising populations

Workout at 5.30pm, sex before bed is fine when gf is not at college (it didnt help the sun & mon night), havent tried warm milk as of yet

definitely wouldnt try alcohol as a solution as I hate the stuff, is a glass of red beneficial daily?

For you, it is not. No doctor will ever recommend a young man drink a glass of red wine daily

Try magnesium oil before bed...and absolutely no gaming (or) anything that gets your blood pumping. I used to suffer from this for a longtime. Whenever I watched a ufc fight (or) even an article that is thought provoking can send my mind racing for hours and mess up my sleep. so now I make sure to keep it mild in the evenings (funny videos) and apply magnesium oil 40 minutes before bedtime.

I also noticed that the multivitamin (Optimen) puts me to sleep real good. so sometimes I take it at night instead of mornings.

Is this your professional medical opinion? I know and have worked with several MD's who would say otherwise. No matter how young you are you are not immune from cardiovascular disease. Not that this was the question of the OP. He is asking for things to help him sleep.

The lowest risk of fatal heart disease occurred among those who both drank moderately and exercised. They had a 50% reduced risk compared to non-drinkers who didn't exercise. (Moderate drinking was defined as consuming an average of up to two drinks per day for both men and women. This is twice as high as the US federal recommendation for women.)

This is the stance of the largest community of MDs in the world, yes. I don't care what individual MDs think; I care about what the evidence shows and the recommendations of professional associations

What associations are you referring too? Can you state your studies?

I've used all kinds and forms of benadryl, and the best by far is the liquid version from none other than...the dollar tree. 50 mg and it makes me lethargic and 75 mg makes it a struggle to stay awake. 25 mg of the liquid version is usually enough and is noticeable better than the pill version. As to melatonin, if i use it i take <.5 mg and its effective without as much hangover as higher amounts. Id personally recommend no more than 1 mg max, but that much isn't needed for most.

^^This! I also work in the medical field, hear this question asked alot and agree with mr cooper. However, over the years they've gone back and forth as whether or not to recommend it..sort of like whats been done with coffee.

he certainly could but lets give coop some slack here.. hes a pretty busy gentleman. lets stay focused and try to figure out what can help josh.
coop you noted he took a dose of g8 the other night?.. has phenebut and GABA. wanted that to be clarified up front.

So you're better off self-medicating with over the counter supplements recommended by nameless strangers on the internet?. After all we are all doctors with your best interest at heart and we know your medical history...Right?

Touché!

Getting deep in here. This is the internet ya know. I weigh 607lbs and haven't seen my own penis since the late '70's. Listen to my advice

Took 2mg of melatonin last night, slept better than the previous 3 nights, wasn't deep sleep, but didnt spend too much time throughout the night with my mind racing. This cold is absolutely destroying me, but just tackling it with cold and flu tablets and lenzip, think it may be a contributing factor as to why ive been sleeping so bad recently

Took 50mg of diphenhydramine last night and slept soundly until my window started rattling from the wind, damn single glazing.

I have 1,200 of them, so think ill just be taking 2 a night now. Best sleep I've had in the last 4 weeks

think I just wasted my $, neither have that

Just return that ****. And you can buy the ingredient generic. In the u.s. its mostly sold as an alergy medication, however in other cou.tries they market it as a sleepin aide. Ive picked some up at the 99 cent store before, also walgreens, walmart, cvs etc sell their version for cheaper

yeah i picked up 1,200 tabs of it for $30

Josh, are you still struggling with sleep at all? I'm going through a rough bit of insomnia currently.

Sleeping okay currently .

Install f.luxx on your computer if you haven't already. It stops the blue light emitting from your PC at night.

Take 2g melatonin (maybe start at 1g) with a cup of honey & camomile tea an hour before bed

Smoke 30 mins before bed (optional), depending on your view of it.

Get into bed 8 1/2 - 9 hours before the time you have to wake up

Been doing this the last week and I've felt amazing every day

Also, apparently fish oil 2 hours before bed really helps. Im waiting for my fish oil to turn up then dosing it in the AM / PM

Think that flux will work on cell phones? I only use a computer once or twice a month lol.
Also, hoping you mean melatonin at mg not g? Every time I've tried melatonin and have some sublingual tabs but progeny dosing too high.
I tried a bed time chamomile tea last night asking with 2 Relora and theanine/taurine which helped me fall asleep and for 2 hours or so slept heavily, but then the rest of the night waking every hour again. I'm getting close to going with benadryl to get a few solid nights of sleep before going back "natural". I'm going to stop at vitamin shoppe tonight as well for Valerian root and passion flower.

Flux only works with jailbroken phones/ipads.

yeah sorry, I mean mg not g. Lower is better with melatonin. just start low and work your way up until you find a level that works. if you get a sleep hangover, stay on that level and after 2-3 days it will stop occuring.

valerian root keeps me awake, makes my mind race.

Just dont take the relora, thanine, taurine or benadryl. do what i said with the honey & chamoille tea + melatonin, 1 hour before bed. It will work

Taking all that stuff before bed is why you cant sleep, or why you wake after 2 hours. a lot of it will make your mind be active

Its why i cant take growth factor / sleep supplements. too many ingredients actually enhance your brain as opposed to shutting it off

Well, it's not "why" I can't sleep, because I haven't had problems with insomnia in a year or so. Theanine and taurine had always been my night time stack, but I do hear you as far as adding too much stuff in this having a paradoxical effect.

For weekends I highly recommend looking into phenibut, 1g 3 hours before bedtime gives me some of the deepest sleep ever. It should only be taken 2-3 days a week though as you can develop tolerance issues and dependency.

I've taken it for over a year just on the weekends and love it.

For weekdays I just use melatonin

You can also look into zma that seems to help a lot of people and is inexpensive

Damn I wouldn't wake up after doing all that lol.

I won a football contest from formutech on here and chose their product r.e.m. 8.0 which is a sleep product. That **** was real deal. Never had a sleep sup be so effective. Never really had a sleep be effective at all really. Puts me to sleep after about a half hour and was sleeping longer and better

Not sure what you mean here.
Having too many ingredients does not change how they work or randomly have the opposite effect. It is likely you do not interact well with one of the ingredients (L dopa perhaps).

Thats like saying too many forms of protein will make you atrophy

Likely the L-dopa. It energized me and made my mind wander quite a bit, but also made me feel nice.

L-dopa does keep me up at first, tried a few things with it in them after a week I got used to it and fell asleep fine
