The body actually has built-in mechanisms to prevent death from exercise-induced exertion. The exceptions are congenital conditions...which caused all the deaths the media has reported.
Im no scientist, but i feel that your body would dehydrate causing your muscles to cramp and seize to function stopping you from running way before the stress on your body came to a point to where it was exhausted to the point of death.
