Great article Josh,
Here are the results from a paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.- what was the time frame during this study? a year ago, two years - etc?
The other aspect that I wish was added to this (maybe for down the road) is the financial situation of those families from this study as well as going back to the past 5 or 6 years.
lets not forget that we were in a recession a short time ago and this obviously forced many parents to rethink many extra curricular activates. I take both of my girls to basketball every Saturday morning for an hour each; learning the fundamentals. The cost is just about a 100 per child but if you take a single parent working 1 or 2 jobs to make ends meet, this 200 dollars (not including going back and forth) could mean the difference between paying your mortgage, a car payment or a utility bill.
Parents may only have enough money to afford one sport.
IMHO, if the government offered tax incentives for parents whose children are involved in a team sport or after school paid program, I guarantee the next article will be written about the over booming job market for children's sports and the changes this country has made to help ensure the future of tomorrows youth.
all in all, very good article
