Article: Do You Need A Personal Trainer?

So in short, Yes, you do.
Everyone can benefit from a trainer.

Whether it's 3x per week, or once per month, everyone at some level will benefit.

Once per month isn't for those looking to save money, it's for the already extremely dedicated to get measurements, diet info, routine changes basically a check up.

This girl at my gym just became a trainer. For months I've seen this girl in the gym doing absolutely nothing except flirting with guys. She lifts bare minimum and only talks to guys who are on gear. This is where I see her getting some advice but she DOES NOT know how to lift weights or train someone. I really feel like it's way to easy to get certified these days

ACSM trainer for 18 years. Ive seen my share of bad and good trainers but those with the higher caliber of certs know their stuff better. I'd like to see state licencing.

So true about franchise gyms. You work your ass coming in morning and evening to get and maintain clients while the gym gets the majority of the money the client is paying per session. Total bs. I left the corporate gym to contract for myself 2 years ago and went from 6-10 dollars a session to 75-125. Gym managers are sheisty ****s.

Well, you have to think about it like this.

You get a cut, pt sales gets a cut, his boss gets a cut, gym gets a cut, corporate gets a cut.

And I'm sure there are more.

When you really think about it, the trainers are probably getting the biggest cut.

When you go into business for yourself, you eliminate all that.

I've worked as a pt for a gym where I had to get my own clients, and I received about 50% of what I sold and serviced.

This allowed me to learn I am not good at sales, but am good at retaining clients.

I quit that 50k a year job to basically work at la fitness.

And I love it. I'm doing what I love to do with most people appreciating me because I'm not about the money, and am good at what I do.

I work 40 or more hours a week. Make my own schedule. No one tells me what to do.
I love it!

I recently left Wendy's am filling propane and gas at a marathon gas station. I would love to work at a gym or run one

gotboost, go for it dude! If that's you in avatar, your probably have a good grasp on fitness already. Commercial gyms are the best way to learn the ropes. A cert will set you back like 500, 570 after CPR cert. Most have payment plans. I liked doing ISSA, but NASM or any NCCA recognized cert will get your foot in the door. Well worth it investment. Practice by doing some programming and training friends before you go into the interview. Make a resume and outline that you have sales skills as well as knowledge of fitness assessments, taking body fat, nutrition etc. It' shard at first doing "free first time sessions" and making calls to build clients but if you are good at it and stick with it you will succeed. Who doesn't want to put on workout clothes everyday for work?

I went to school in Chicago for auto diesel and industrial but that has not panned out well yet. I love working out and love reading about health and nutrition.
