Post exercise metabolism is heightened much more effectively after HIIT workouts than slow, steady state cardio; which essentially makes the "fat burning zone" less efficacious in comparison.

There are a lot of cutting edge guys looking into the health aspects of heart rate variability as how unhealthy steady state is on the cardiovascular system and raising things like stress hormones. I think people should just work up to HIIT....
