arm size

i wish i had that problem with my jeans lol

waist - 32-33 inches (depends on the time of day lol)
arms - 17.25
chest - 46
thighs - 26
calves - 15.5 :( (shitty genetics in that department)
around delts - 52.5
height - 5'8
weighing around 200 right now BF not sure about 2-3% higher than I was in my avatar i'd guess

i don't think of myself really as big, i look in the mirror and always want to be bigger, seems to be a common trend around here lol

people do make comments about my arms being big though

Glen I'd say you look pretty good but one, I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea, and two, we don't want you getting complacent. I understand your pain about the calves, got the same problem here. It sucks!!! Calves and arms are my biggest problems.

oh trust me i'm not complacent at all skoal since i began bulking again i've actually managed to put .5 inch on my calves (which is huge for me lol)

since i began bulking i've put on 15 pounds in a little over about 10 weeks, and i haven't put on too much fat at all

Figured I'd post some since I'm the oddball out.
Measured tonight:
Arms : 20.5"
Forearms: 15.75"
Waist: 41"
Chest: 51.5"
Thighs: 26" (6" above the knee)
Calves: 17" (yeah, i know, **** off) :trout:

All measurements are currently bigger than what they will be in about 2 weeks. I'm 8 weeks into a testprop/boldprop/trenace cycle so water retention has taken it's toll. :frustrate

hmm judging from this board (and certainly myself) i propose we lobby to have bodybuilding judging start from the knees up :)

what about guys like me that have calves that are actually a couple inches bigger than my big arms, the thing about me is that I have big arms 18 and 3/4 cold, but calves are about 191/2 or 20 so nobody notices my arms, trust me as long as you have good shape in your legs, you can get away with them being on the small side

Probably because you're one of the many many many guys that use the high reps training style for calve. I did that mistake one, but now I know that calve are like any other muscle, they respond to the same way as any other muscle : progressive overload ! Since I use this philosophy for my calves, they became my strongest part.

i train calves like i train everything else few sets and low reps
i usually do 2-3 sets 4-6 reps a week

its not that i'm training them wrong they just hate growing, although they have grown the most using that style
(before i trained them like that i had tried everything else as well)

I am a big fan of strength shoes, and treadmill work with a ridiculous incline (set it as high as the machine will go, then put bricks under the front legs and wear a weight vest ideally).

Do this kind of work 3 times a week and watch your calves get huge :D

My calves really took off after I started stretching the crap out of them between every set. I find they also need a higher intensity level then other muscle groups. For instance, the routine that really put some size on went like this:

Monday:

Standing Calf Press
10 reps
stretch for 20 seconds
repeat X 5

Wednesday
Seated Calf Press
10 reps
stretch for 20 seconds
repeat X 5

Friday
Donkey Calf Press
10 Reps
stretch for 20 seconds
repeat X 5

The next week, do the same thing for 7 sets, and the following week do it for 10 sets.

Just do light calf training for week 4 and then come back and shock them hard with heavy weight, 6-8 reps, count of 5 going down, hold fully stretched for count of 3, explode up for a count of 2.

BV

i tried something very similiar about 8 months ago for 3 months BigV with absolutely no success at all ... my calves just can't grow with that kind of insane volume training

Lol, took some pics today - my arms are almost 20 inches and they look small-ish next to my torso. How fucked!

My obliques are looking pretty freaky though :D

Damn man, Ive got a decently thick - "Ecto who ate 4000cals a day for 3 years" style torso:) Awesome to have your kind of genetics...

Im sure that peach juice protien blend you were talking about dosen't hurt, either:)

damnit, i'm wating for my biceps to catch up to my triceps, i have actually quit trying to work my triceps and i really just focus on my biceps, come on and admit, it we all love that peak that our biceps give us-lol.

Hello, new here. Me it's not the peak that's missing, it's the biceps WIDTH... I'm like that lunahotel -- Except that's a gurl's nickname but 17" arms aren't... -- I've got 17½" with much more tris than bis. I recently replaced all the triceps training with biceps, and it seems to help...

Damn... actually measured for the first time since high school, and they are sitting around 16-16.2. Hopefully they jump up to around 17-17.5 by the end of this bulking phase when I weigh around 225. If not then I'm cutting off my arms and gonna steal ushers!! :frustrate

EX:
pull a friggin sled

When did people's calves become attached to their arms? LOL

11 weeks into cycle and biceps are 20.25" cold. i will be doing pct in 2 weeks with igf-1 lr3 and i should be able to stay somewhre in the 19's at least thats what happened my last pct

An honset 17" MUSCULAR arm looks huge ... and is as far as I'm concerned. 99% of all the measurements you hear claimed are exaggerated.

When I used to work in the YMCA I used to easily shoot down the guys who claimed so and so " ... has twenty-one inch arms ... they're HUUUUGGGEEE ! "

I'd ask them how they knew ... did they measure them themselves or witness them measured ? Of course they didn't but would then ask me how I was so sure they weren't 20-21 inches as claimed ...

I'd used the old 'Arthur Jones method' :

I'd ask them if the guys arms were as big around as his head was ... as an average guys head about 21" around. I'd tell them to simply look at the guys arms and compare them to his head ... are they equal size ??? Very few guys are walking around with arms the size of their heads !

That would quite down alot of guys in a hurry ... :run:

By the way ... I hear Usher has 18 5/8" arms .... measured cold, with one flex , first thing in the morning ... whataya think ?

Dude, he sooooo has 20.5" arms. Justine timberlake is more like 18 5/8" :D

Gar. You guys whining about your 17"... mine are 14"! :frustrate Even worse 6 months ago when I started training, they were something like 12" if I was generous with the tape measure. Got a long ass way to go here.

Nah, nobody's whining about 17" arms ... like I said a TRUE 17" MUSCULAR arm is a big, impressive arm and looks to be even bigger than that it measures. Just keep in mind the measurements quoted by most people are exaggerated anyway ... with those exaggerations often believed.

A claim of 21" arms will always sound better and sell more muscle magazines than someone claiming 17 3/4 arms. That simple rule of a guys head compared to his upper arm is something that always puts thing back in perspective real quick - with out having to measure **** ...

I remember it being said that to increase your upper arm by 1 inch, you'll need to add about ten pounds to your bodyweight so keep that in mind while chasing the arm measurement you want.

Looking back , I think one of the biggest wastes is worrying about measurements and the scale - but that is a mistake we all fall into one time or another.

10lbs. in order to gain 1 inch is not true for myself. Depending on the type of training I'm doing at the time, I usually have to put on around close to 20lbs. for a solid inch of muscle. And that 20lbs. is total msucle not muscle + fat. And this goes up as the bigger I get. (think total body LBM....the legs gotta get some meat from that too.)

And I disagree with you on the 17" comment. To me, even a solid 17" arm on a average size male (say 5'10"-6'0") is definatley not big. I think it takes at least 18 inches to be considered "big". Now if you're a younger guy and hang out at college hangouts ,etc most of the time, then yes, I can partially see how 17 would be "sufficient"....but out in the real world with all the older guys, 18+ is considered big.

I have 18.75" arms and have a 20" neck, 18" calves. These aren't made-up or I would have increased them by 2 inches...lol. And I don't think my arms are big at all. And eventhough I have some pudge around the gut, I'm still pretty lean.

Heh, losing 10lbs generally means about an inch off the waist and maybe 1/4 inch off the arms for me. Gaining 10lbs can go anywhere, my legs seem to be the beneficiary as of late - my upper back is getting a lot thicker too. Makes sense, since I do heavy compound powerlifting movements. Every once in a while I'll hit up the curls though just to see how those are going - I hope to curl 200lbs within a couple of months :D

Personally, I think it all has to do with how big your torso is and how long your arms are - a verythin torso and short arms that are 17" looks huge, but a massive torso and longer arms with 19.5" arms as in my case doesn't have quite the same impact. C'est la vie, I'm in it to be strong not pretty :)

Yeah, frame size definately has a lot to do with it too. While I'm only 5'10-5"11", I have very long arms, legs. While I'm thankful for having naturally broad shoulders and wide chest, those damn spaghetti strings always seem to pull me back down. :D

As long as my waist is at 40" or below, I'm happy with keeping up sheer size in general and just trying to keep adding more to it. Over that and it's time to cut-up a tad. The only time I really try and have a somewhat descent set of abs is from the months of May through August. ;) So I can see how wanting to get strong and huge vs. being the beach boy 190lb. kid are your goals. Nothing against 190lb. beach boys or anything though.

Would a 220lb beach boy be OK?:)

LOL, I knew I was gonna catch flack for that...lol...

BigV, you don't look like a beach boy.....that is, if you don't wanna look like a beach boy...but if you do then I'd have to rethink the whole scenario....LOL.. :D

bah. The only way you'd be able to lure me to the beach is with a 2' long grilled chicken sandwich and a power rack!~

What if I dangle a 5'6" blond 36" x 24" x 36" in front of you, holding a turkey sandwhich between her thighs, BUT without the power rack?

What would you do then :D

Well then, I'd say that it changes everything...lol..

Squat her for reps... Errr... yeah

my arms have fluctuated from 17.5 to almost 20" the past year or two.... let's say I was happier with 20" arms, but not happy with my waistline at the time, lol ;)

And admittedly.... 17" truly cut arms do look pretty big, anything above that is great

I wish I could convince myself a cut 17" arm looks big :( I've watched one too many bbing vids and now anything under 19" ripped doesn't look impressive....just imagine how I feel when I flex in the mirror :D hehehehelolololol*sniffle*sniffle*

Thankfully I'm not more than a year off from hitting 8 in the squat or deadlift.

Awesome, congrates bro....where is your bench at these days? Shirted and RAW if you've got both numbers. I know a lot of PLers actually stop maxing RAW at a point, but it's always interesting to me.

My bench hasn't moved much recently :( still hovering around 440 shirted 400 raw.

Im a little over 16 inches...I know i probably dont have the genetics for 20+ arms(that is, 20 inch arms without gaining too much bodyweight and turning into a blob)...Id be very happy with 17s...my goal is to get 17s under a 210lbs bodyweight...

ive had people compliment on my arms...but i get the same thing, when i look down at them they seem small...

*sigh* just give me dexter jacksons genetics..

Well, I guess my head is used to get that average of 21". My head measures 23" around the cranium. Also, it's much larger wth a lateral measurement. I just wish my brain will fill out the extra area.
