Android Tablets

I've been getting emails daily about Tablets on sale at Comp USA/tiger direct. I've never really been interested in them ,but my 17" laptop screen can be annoying at times. Most of the brands they have are lesser known brands with Android Ice Cream sandwich software for $100 or so . Anyone have any exp. with these??

ICS would be a decent platform.
No personal experience but the 7" tabs are the hot topic right now. Kindle, Samsung, couple good brands....Apple is apparently coming out with a version soon.
Just be careful if you buy a cheap Android tablet its not a China made POS.

I have an ASUS Transformer Prime. It's a beaut, and highly functional. Interface is extremely responsive and accurate, tablet itself looks great and has fantastic internals, and you can purchase a dock for the tablet that has a keyboard interface with very useful buttons and a usb port. It costs a pretty penny compared to the others, but it's still hundreds of dollars cheaper than an iPad.

The only "downside" (might not be a big deal to you; didn't matter a bit to me) is that the tablet doesn't support 3g/4g etc internet. That is, unlike a lot of tablets on the market, you can't buy satellite internet for it. The only form of internet it supports is wireless. However, if you already have a(n android) smartphone, you can tether it to the device, and it can get internet that way, too.

This shouldn't be a controversial statement at all, and should be a matter of fact to everyone in the know, but the gold standard for portable OS devices, namely tablets and smartphones, is the iOS. The Apple line consistently comes out with products that work well right out of the box. Typing on any 3g or newer iPhone, and any iPad, is a total pleasure, unlike my old touch phone that I wanted to throw against the wall every time I texted someone. One more day on my old phone and I might have developed carpal tunnels from punching the screen to get a keystroke to register. So anyways, what I'm trying to say is that the iPhone and iPad are what all other things are compared to. I feel the ASUS Transformer Prime does real well in this regard and definitely ranks well above the iPad. And one of my favorite things is that the software requires almost no tinkering to have a great experience, unlike my phone for instance (samsung galaxy s3), which while it's really a nice piece of hardware, I'm definitely going to have to root it as it definitely needs a lot of streamlining for me to finally be comfortable with it.
