I use it for convenience. I.get off work and hit the gym and normally drink a shake while I cook dinner.

Ok so tell me this - can your body utilize the 40g of protein from your shake and then your dinner protein?

Well depending on what I cook its usually about 1.5 to 2 hours between the two. I haven't had any problems yet and its about the only way I can get all of my macros before I have to go to bed. Without the shake I would only have 3-4 meals a day to fit in 210g protein so without the whey I would have 50-70g a meal

Honestly chocolate milk or milk with ovaltine I haven't bought protein in over a year. I take that $ and put it towards 40# of chicken

I heard Muscle Milk has the same nutrients your wife's boobies are naturally producing. Which does Baby Airborne prefer?

A lean bulk lol diet is booby milk.... His fav Purus product is Slin so he doesn't get bloat. He would say Dpol but he wants to stay away from hormonals for a little while

Are you doubting the bodies capabilities?

I am merely saying that I have yet to see any proof of the highly suggestive NEED for protein shakes I think it's BS plain and simple. In a setting where you're on the run and you have no other option ok but if whole food is a possibility it's a waste of money and calories to drink a shake vs eat food.

The "anabolic window" scares people to death "oh gotta drink my protein shake right now!!!" Since cutting out protein shakes I have seen more gains felt more anabolic i.e. vascular, full etc then I have in 5 years of living and dying by my shaker.

Interesting, you always slurp up my protein and tell me it gives you the shakes. Hypocrite? ;-)

I don't believe that you need them I just think they're convenient on my workout days

That's different and you know it.

The last 5-10 comments were great.

I'm not saying you need them. I'm saying it gets amino's to your body faster post workout. Which is true.

Says who? All protein consists of amino acids... Why does it get in any faster from shakes and what's your source of information on that?

Don't worry I'll wait...

Lol stfu. I was busy. Do you really think your body would process a chicken breast as fast as a shake? I'll find a study on it. Cuz it's been proven.

Or it's like saying pill form is better then pining. ;)

Link me : ) I'll be happy to read it! Also, is chicken the only whole food source for protein? Or does milk not contain protein? Tuna? Turkey and the list goes on... How about this find an article (a study NOT funded by a supplement company) that shows the fastest digesting protein source in whole foods abs then we'll go from there.

Surely you're aware that if you eat a hearty preworkout meal the nutrients will still be around post workout. Ever look into the different meats and their absorption/burn rates? You should.

Oooh ooooh oooh also let me know what the ratio is of milk proteins casein, whey etc. : ) I'll be here.

Doesn't matter, people can make the gains on food or (no) shakes. I won't lie I fall into that have a shake quick (20-30 minutea) after a work out hype, either way it ain't going to hurt me. Have a shake, eat a meal. Have chocolate milk after your work out if ya want. ;)

Anyways guys, tried some BPI Blox samples today (new SAA BCAAs) smoothest stuff I ever tasted! No foam, it's like mixing the flavored drink mix in water, no lie.

I used to rush home to get a shake immediately following my weight training. Now I do cardio for a half hour, abs for 20 mins, drive 15 mins home and sometimes even stop at the store before having my shake. I've noticed no difference if anything I'm seeing an increase in gains now. I'm now realizing that the whole "your body will be in a cannibalistic state after 15 minutes" is all a crock of sh1t.

True it just might be, that's why I called it hype. I don't stress though, I mean if I have things to do I'll get it when I get to it. I admit I just do it that way when I can just because that's what's been preached for so long.

Milk is 80% casein 20% whey.

Right on bro good find, my treasure hunt has a point I promise : )! So if you drink 16 Oz of milk (i'm in class so I can't be absolutely sure on specifics) you're getting 16g of protein divided at the 80/20 ratio we can assume that casein is 12.8g of that protein right? Now what's the absorption rate of whey vs casein vs different whole food proteins...

Yup... Remember supplement companies are businesses! They use whatever they have research documents, results etc for their benefit to make money. Anyone can use the results of a study to back their theory. The bottom line is unless you personally read exactly what they're talking about you are leaving it up to the companies "interpretation" of said studies.

Rates of absorption would vary from person to person. Amino acids from whey are peaked for 2-3 hrs after ingestion. Which is the point of shakes. With casein and whole foods they are digested slower so amino acid levels are more steady for longer periods. They won't spike from chicken or any other protein source. Eggs are the fastest digesting whole food protein after whey. Another thing you need to take into account is how fats and carbs effect digestion with whole food. The more fat that is in the steak or chicken will slow the digestion down and insulin response won't be much. So fish which is usually higher in fat wouldn't be a good choice post workout as I wouldn't cause a great insulin spike.
