2017 NFL Draft & Season Chat Thread

Drew Brees is awesome. I was so happy when Miami didn't sign him... I think the AFC east would have looked totally different if they did

They should have let the play go and then review it. They review all TD anyway. The Ref was smiling and celebrating with Pats. Definitely questionable. But, the refs have been atrocious this year. Missing calls, calling non-calls, blowing plays dead. Unfortunate.
That ref looked like he was heading to the after party with them for sure. Unreal. Lol
That's the thing. There wasn't a "call" regarding Jack being down because the refs blew the play dead. But either way, congrats on the comeback. The GOAT got it done again. He's a beauty to watch in the 4th Quarter.
It is definitely getting tough to dismiss Brady being the GOAT at this point. He just can't be stopped anymore.
Speaking of the past

The Chiefs first two wins of the season came against the same two teams playing in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have beat 6 of the last 8 eventual Super Bowl participants in the same regular season.

And once again.......we choked in the playoffs.

Ha
Man I tell you what somehow the chiefs have become my second favorite team to watch. They truly are great on both sides of the ball. Losing to that team that had no business being in the playoffs to begin with was just plain odd. Smith and hill helped me skate right into my fantasy playoff spot this year. What a duo. Also I had season tickets for the rockets games watching hunt his whole college career. I still remember watching him put up 8.8 yards per carry for 265 yards and 2 tds in their last home game of 2014 against bowling green. What a monster as a young buck. He always looked out of place in college like he was playing against a bunch of high schoolers. Still upset the Lions didn't get him in the draft. Sucked he didn't keep the pace he had early in the season this year but a damn good rookie season none the less and glad he didn't get a set back like Cook did this year.
in 91 the colts went 1-15...I was still a fan.

used to get some really good seats for cheap back then, lol.
I know all about getting cheap seats to see NFL games! I am a life long Detroit fan and all. Lol

I actually haven't had to pay for a seat for my wife kids and I for a long time one of the perks of working closely with vendors in the auto industry. :)
Pat Shurmur named head coach of Giants Woody
Giants were pretty upset Patricia chose my boys over that NY gig. I was a bit surprised he didn't go with the giants as well considering he was a fan of theirs growing up. Although Shurmur made a name for himself this season no doubt about that so we shall see if that translates to the head coach gig.
I am a life long Saints fan since 1980. And since we dont have a baseball team and I live in Detroit now, I follow the Tigers ever since I been here. Also like the Wings. Havent been big into basketball since I was a kid, but I was always a fan of Larry Bird more than any team in basketball.
Tigers games have always been my favorite but I won't lie watching them do so little with so much talent the last decade has irritated me to the core. This year was just a flat out joke. One of the sports sites actually labeled us the worst team in baseball and a definitely gives the browns a run for that title in all of sports now. Lol

I've seen a couple of rebuilding groups in my short life and sucks we are right back in it but that squad wasn't doing the job.

My Great Aunt is a huge Tigers fan. I like to call her after the Astros beat them every now and again, just to make sure she didn't miss the game (she never does).

This year could be really good for me as a sports fan. The Astros won their first ever WS, and now the Eagles have a shot at their first SB title. I'll have to frame the paper if they pull it off and hang it alongside the jersey. Hell, I might even buy and frame a Foles jersey with it if this dude actually pulls this off.

I was very happy for Verlander. Wish he could have got it in the D but at least he got it done in any case.

I'm honestly not sure. Mara went in wanting a coach with HC experience. Shumar led the browns to 9 wins in 2 seasons so he's basically a HOF coach lol. Our last experience with a fresh HC didn't workout so well. I also think we wanted an offense-minded coach because we will either be drafting a QB early or grooming Webb.

The thing that worries me about Shumar is he's only had a few good offenses. His track record is not the best. Of course, when you are the coach of the browns and the pre-Goff/Gurley Rams, you have a scarcity of talent. Patricia has always put a consistent defense together, even as BB trades away key pieces or lets them walk in FA. That says a lot.

Personally, I wanted a defense oriented coach and thought Patricia would have been great. Also wanted to give Schwartz a look. We'll see how it plays out. Jack Del Rio is lead dog for DC. As long as it's not Spags.

So what does this say for Kirk Cousins?

Going to the Browns is my theory. Then they can draft a good RB and another defensive piece and all of the sudden they might be able to compete (ie: win 1-3 games, lets not get ahead of ourselves).

Browns are in position to get Cousins and Landry, then draft Barkley and Chubb or Finkpatrick. But will still find a way to lose.

Denver, Cleveland, Jets, Bills all want him. Cleveland tried to get Smith and I think they have the most cap room. Could pay him $30M/year.
Cousins said he is more interested in going somewhere where he can win. It sounds like he would play for "less" if it gave him a legit shot at the SB.

I mean, he's made $90M the last 3 years. Jacksonville is the best team. They'd be instant contenders as Blake was their biggest weakness.

Could solidify OL, LB, and depth in draft.

Reports say he would still be looking for $24-25M a season w/ most as a guarantee. Can Jags afford that?

Depends on Bortles. They picked up his option so if he can't pass a physical, they're on the hook for like $17M guaranteed. I haven't looked at their future caps but I'm pretty sure they can minus Bortles

Alex Smith traded to Redskins.

Love that they got something for him in Fuller. I love Alex and think we would be a better team with him but since he wasn't staying after next year, I am not only glad we got something for him but he also got paid. He is a Pro's Pro.

I like cousins to broncos, makes most sense, but also best case scenario for browns, would be to get cousins, draft josh allen at 1, and take barkley with the3/4 pick. That's unlikely, i also read a scenario where minnesota drops keenum/ bradford, signs teddy to a deal to "beat out" cousins in training camp. This will be one of the best QB FA markets i can remember. Oh and GO BIRDS.

Why would you draft Allen if you signed cousins?

Imo, Better scenario would be Cousins, Barkley, trade from 4 to 8-11 and pick up more picks, then get Ridley or Kirk and some defensive studs and a good TE in mid rounds.

Cousins, Barkley, Josh Gordon, Ridley or Kirk, TE and 3-4 new defensive starters.

because starting rookie qbs hasn't worked for the browns, nor any qb so sit him behind cousins to develop a year. i dont think he goes to the browns broncos is my pick i think bradford hits the browns.something tells me Kirk is going nowhere near the browns based on his comments.

But if they sign Cousins, it won't be to a one year contract. So it makes no sense to spend a top draft pick on a QB. Cousins would be their franchise QB for the next 6-7 years as he's only 29.

As far as their OL, it's pretty solid overall. They spent a lot of money on it last year. Joe Thomas may retire (sadly), but they have the draft capital to get a plug in LT (if one exists in this draft - college OL is meh)

I think the Broncos are farther from another SB than a QB. They have a much worse OL than Cleveland, too. I really think Jacksonville is the best landing spot for him - but I'm not sure if duval can swing it. Would love to see Coughlin get another ring.

Well yeah I think Jacksonville is in play but they must give bortles his max of 16mil if he can’t pass a phsycal and he just got surgery
