2009 College Football Season

"Best Out Of 5" is a losers speil. I understand why it is said alot in the Big Ten, but to us SEC fans it just sounds moronic.

You've been drinking early tonight Plenny. I don't blame you - with Michigan State away this weekend.

....and your mother wears combat boots whaaaaa whaaaaa whaaaaa.

Urban Meyer UF coach 5 years has won 2 national championships
Joe Paterno PSU coach 44 years has won 2 national championships
....that's close.

ok..you asked for it...yo' mama so fat that she got baptized in gravy.

or old gator..id be your dad but the dog beat me upstairs.

or even better...i'd be head coach of the gators, but i dont believe in playing dirty and paying of the refs.......whaaaaaaaaaa whaaaaaaa:kiss:

This is completely off-topic but I thought some of you guys might get a kick out of Old Gators' pain:

My daughter, who is a senior at UF, called me from Gainesville last night to tell me she was in a car accident. She wasn't "paying attention" (ie probably texting). She drove into the back of a car that was stopped at an intersection to turn left - which then ran into another car - which than ran into another car!! So she hits 3 cars via the "domino effect"!!

I asked her if anyone was hurt: "No"
I asked if she was DUI on anything: "No".
But, of course, the police did write her up for "careless driving" (called Reckless Driving here in PA).
After my heart attack I told her to call our insurance company ASAP and report the whole thing.

Samantha calls me an hour later all excited : "Dad, I have good news! I spoke with the insurance company and they said they wouldn't just pay for my car but they would be paying for the other three cars too!! Isn't that nice??"

I then proceeded to explain to her how "premiums" work.

I see she is well educated at UF...:trink26:

now, seriously, im glad she's alright....i have 10yrs until my daughter starts driving...but I wont let her drive until she recieves a degree from PSU.:bigok:

rubbering I'm not talking about Alabama's bowl history here or their 1946 Rose Bowl appearance. BTW OSU has been in 14 and won 6 (not sure where you got your data but it's wrong) we are on our way to #15 and would have played in 3 others this past 7 years except for those little National Championship game detours we took. I am talking about recent meetings between the 2 conferences specifically Big Ten vs SEC and head to head in Bowl games is a fair way to assess this, you have bowl eligible teams from both conferences meeting one another for crying out loud. In no way shape or form will you be allowed to use the cop out excuse that this that or the other team wasn't happy to be in this or that bowl game that given year, that's WEAK. I'm disappointed in you for even throwing that in, c'mon you're better than that.
I have a problem with your logic, you state off hand that OSU and Penn State would be lucky to have x number of wins but there is no way to know that. You state off hand that the SEC is so superior to the Big Ten but when I look into all I come up with is 14-13, that's your conference's record against mine in post season games and that doesn't demonstrate domination. End of story it's much closer than you allow yourself to believe. The Big Ten has struggled in bowls in recent years except against the SEC where it is a dead heat over an entire decade time span, and I even had to go back to 2003 to give you the peace of mind of having that narrowest of leads because I know how fragile you are and I care about you

Ya know bucknuts, the big 10 has been "down"the past 5 yrs. But i believe the conference is rebuilding. Michigan WILL be a front runner in 2 yrs if their recruits live up to expectations. Penn State has a revolving door of freshmen wide outs, who i believe should have gotten the starts this year over the current two. Also, Quarterback Kevin Newsome is Daryl Clark on high octane. Defense is never an issue as well. OSU appears young and solid. I LOVE Wisconsins possibilities over the next 1-3 yrs (hint...RB and a smashmouth "D"). At the same time I would hope the almighty SUC, i mean SEC would dismantle. Lets face it, The SEC cant produce an NFL QB...example, Chris Leak..Jake Cutler. These highschool All Americans will see the Kerry Collins and the Chad Henne's from the big 10 succeeding in the NFL and HMMMMMMM!!! where would they go?:deal::deal::deal:

rubberring; -As for the Big Ten... this past year they were 1-6. In 2007 they were 3-5. So said:
So, we (the USA) have been in a recession the past two years. So according to your juvenile logic, we will be in a depression for the next 20 plus years.

bucknuts, how sweet would it be if U of Michigan dumps OSU??? OSU, IOWA, and PSU would be one big happy family.

OK!!!! I have no choice, Penn state's the "half"

Dude... I posted it twice. But here, let me spell it out for you. Alabama has won four Rose Bowls, the last one coming in 1946. In 1947, the Rose Bowl began playing host to the champion of what is now the Big Ten. So... in the 60 years since, OSU has won six Rose Bowls. C'mon... that's funny.

I have a problem with your logic, you state off hand that OSU and Penn State would be lucky to have x number of wins but there is no way to know that.

I'd be willing to bet at least 80% of the sports writers in the nation would agree with me. What does that say about the state of the Big Ten? Seriously, for every positive article on Big Ten play, there's a dozen how bad the suckage really is.

Actually, never mind. You're absolutely right. The Big Ten is really, really, really, really good. Just a hair off of SEC quality. So close.

Believe it or not I'm worried about the game tomorrow. I have a lot of bad memories from the John Cooper era where we were clearly better than Michigan on paper but lost the game and any chance of a national championship and then turned around and lost our bowl game as well. So I'm hopeful of a win but nervous about a long time rival with nothing to lose. Penn State still has to beat Mich State a well don't know if that's gonna happen my man.

I'm not asking you to take my word for how competitive it's been in recent years, I know you want to hang on to the 40s and 50s but here's this past decade.

1999
Georgia 28-Purdue 25 OT
Michigan St 37-Florida 34
Michigan 35-Alabama 34 OT
Big Ten 2-1

2000
S.Carolina 24-Ohio St 7
Michigan 31- Auburn 28
Big Ten 1-SEC 1

2001
S. Carolina 31-Ohio State 28
Tennesee 45-Michigan 17
LSU 47-Illinois 34
SEC 3-0

2002
Michigan 38-Florida 30
Auburn 13-Penn St 9
Minnesota 29-Arkansas 14
Big Ten 2-1

2003
Iowa 37-Florida 17
Georgia 34-Purdue 27
Auburn 28-Wisconsin 14
SEC 2-1

2004
Iowa 30-LSU 25
Minnesota 20-Alabama 16
Georgia 24-Wisconsin 21
Big Ten 2-1

2005
Wisconsin 24-Auburn 10
Florida 31-Iowa 24
Big Ten 1-SEC 1

2006
Florida 41-Ohio State 14

2008

That's SEC 14 Big Ten 13 I'd say that's damn competitive. If the game was determined by media hype it would be SEC 27 Big Ten 0 but like they say that's why they play the games.

I agree. The two conferences are practically indistinguishable. I mean, I read stuff like this about SEC champions all the time...

Rivalry Games

Believe it or not I'm worried about the game tomorrow. I have a lot of bad memories from the John Cooper era where we were clearly better than Michigan on paper but lost the game and any chance of a national championship and then turned around and lost our bowl game as well. So I'm hopeful of a win but nervous about a long time rival with nothing to lose. Penn State still has to beat Mich State a well don't know if that's gonna happen my man.

I agree. Can't imagine Wolverines having a hard time to get up for this game, playing at home, and RichRod is fighting for his job (no matter what anybody else says to the contrary). Perfect example of where one win salvages your season - especially against your bitter rival who is headed to Pasadena.

I'll feel the same way next week when UF plays FSU, and I'm sure rubberring feels the same about Bama - Auburn. These games (including OSU at Michigan) are some of the oldest, bitterest rivalries in college football and nothing is a "sure thing". And when our rivals are "wounded" (winding out a disappointing season) they are even more dangerous - playing their last game with nothing to lose (ie Michigan, FSU, and Auburn). The only thing UF has in it's favor over OSU and Bama is that we play FSU at home.

Good Luck to us all!

I see she is well educated at UF...:trink26:
Actually UF has become quite hard to get into academically (unlike when I went there in the mid-70's). 1300'SAT, Top 10%, etc. Much like a freshman would need to get into Penn State Main Campus right off the bat. Understand UF has approx the same # of applications as PSU each year, but only has the one, main campus unlike PSU which can channel alot to it's satellite campuses where they can go for a year or 2 until heading to Main Campus. Makes for a much more competitive environment - academically - to get into UF with it's one and only one Campus.

But yeah, too bad they don't teach a course in "reality economics" or some such thing. :stupid:

LOL you mean there's national media who hate on my Buckeyes? who knew? :ponder:

Bowl matchups only mean so much. Because the matchups arent always comparable. Show me BCS games with SEC vs Big 10.

Even bigger LOL! :stooges:

I'm shocked by all the negativity towards the Big Ten from the same group who hug the SEC's nuts so much that they had Ole Miss in the top 5 to start the season. :trink26: that Kool-aid is intoxicating.

This is exactly what I feel it would absolutely make the Wolerines season to beat my Buckeyes. It's a no win situation, if we win we were supposed to , if we lose oh boy will the media have a field day. If Florida or Bama lose to their rivals it will be viewed differently I can hear it now well Florida St and Auburn have great athletes blah blah blah blah. I know Tuscaloosa and Gainesville will be pissed, but the national media take will be quite different than it will be if we lose.

HAHAHA!!!!!! minnesota beat alabama:rasp:

3 things that struck me looking this stuff up on ESPN.com (1) How close it's been head to head over the past decade(still haven't heard a legitimate rebuttal to this) (2)The SEC owns my Buckeyes (3) Michigan owns the SEC in the same way that the SEC owns my Buckeyes.
Someone said on here that the tests are in and Florida is Ohio State's daddy, if that's true then Michigan must be our grandpa because they have been Florida's daddy. As much as I've enjoyed this 7-1 streak under Tressel against our arch rival we need Michigan to rise back up and be good again. It hurts the Big Ten that they suck this much ass. I hope their rise starts after they lose to my Buckeyes today though. GO BUCKS!

Go back to the start of the season and you'll see that I mentioned several times that Ole Miss was way over-rated.

Whatever, man. Michigan caught the same flack a few years back. Your team's detractors are just sick of OSU not playing to their potential. There was a hump the Buckeyes needed to get over after taking their SEC beatings two years running, and they thought Pryor was the answer. Instead, he under-performs and your coach has no idea how to accentuate his talents.

Bottom line: Win a major BCS game and the media will get off your nuts. Problem is, the Buckeyes will probably get waxed by the Pac-10 team who shows up in Pasadena.

Did you look up to see whether the match-ups were equitable? For example, was it the #4 SEC team vs. #4 Big Ten team?

Probably not. You do the research.

Most likely this explains why, when the pairings are even (#1 vs. #1), it's a joke.

Yes you did but my point was that the media love affair with the SEC is such that a team like that could be ranked that high to begin with. They were ranked there because they are SEC period.

I can't argue with you on this point we desperately need a bowl win and I don't know if we will be able to score enough points to beat an Oregon or Stanford. They are explosive on offense, our defense is good but they will score points on most any defenses and we won't keep pace. So bottom line is if our defense isn't stellar we will probably lose yet again.

Bowl eligible team against bowl eligible team, that's good enough for me. If the SEC is so superior that shouldn't matter anyways.

That's such rubbish. In week #1, the SEC had three teams in the top 10... and they still do. The Big Ten had two teams in the top 10... now they have one.

So, if anything... your argument is backwards.

No it's not because I didn't argue for any Big Ten team being ranked in initial polls. I wouldn't have had Ohio State in the pre-season top 10, too many ? at key positions due to graduation. At least I think they graduated at least they ran out of eligibility.

Whatever... I'm tired of arguing. It's the first day of my 9-day vacation. No papers to grade. I need positive vibes all around.

So... just watching Gameday. OSU unis are sweet today. Have they worn those before?

Oh, what the hell??? On the west coast, ABC is showing the OSU-Michigan game instead of Alabama-Chattanooga??? Are you kidding me???!!!

:lol::lol::lol:

Good luck with that power house could give Bama a scare, until they come out of the tunnel to the field it's over after that. Game time gotta go. GO BUCKS!

the jerseys are new and some other teams will be getting their own version, it's called the Nike pro combat line. 25 yard run for pryor off of a read option...why are they not doing that more often??

Yeah, they're replicas of the 1954 Buckeye uniforms.

For better or for worse, the Tide's unis will look the same 10, 20, and 50 years from now. People in Alabama would lose their minds if they so much as changed the color of the facemasks.

WTF, Florida???! In a week when we're trying desperately to bring credibility to our conference... you allow the Golden Panthers to put 3 points on the board? And you let them get over a hundred yards total offense? Christ. Thanks a lot, Gators. Once again, you bring dishonor to the SEC. How are we ever going to garner any respect on a national level? I mean, c'mon. You losers better get it together if you want people to take our conference seriously.

Plus, plenny told me the refs helped you guys out big-time today.

nothing like finishing the season out with gravy games..way to go SEC!! And you guys have the balls to say the Big 10 has a soft schedule...sheesh!!

In order to gain your respect, we'll be sure to schedule Akron, Temple, Syracuse, and Eastern Illinois in the future... all in the same season.

:wtf1: You're kidding right??

You've confused us with the Big Ten. We're NOT DONE after today.
Sure, UF and Bama have scrimmages today, but then we play Florida State and Auburn respectively, and then WE HAVE TO PLAY EACH OTHER.

#1 versus #2, both teams 12-0.

Yeah, that's a soft finish!:toofunny:

Man, it didn't matter how many touchdown-negating "phantom holds" the refs called on UConn in the 4th qtr... Notre Dame is just lousy. Sad thing is, had the two teams traded coaches a week ago, it would've been a 3-TD Irish win.

Goodbye, Charlie.

I was surprised by how many terrible decisions were made in the final minute of the LSU Ole Miss game starting with McCluster avoiding the onside kick like it was a damn bouncing Betty, and then the terrible time management by LSU. They let like 30 seconds lapse before calling a time out, then after the catch downfield the kicking team isn't ready to run out there for a field goal try and then for good measure they spike it with only 1 second left. It was fun to watch but what a comedy of errors, not Les Miles finest coaching job.

I forgot too about 3 wks ago!!! anyway, i thought you told me michigan st was gonna win??????????

I stand corrected, 10 wins for Penn State this year as well congrats on second place. I am also looking forward to next year I think we will be a better football team. I didn't think we would win the Big Ten this year at all, I thought we were a year away. The O-line really got it together these last 5 games we ran it + 50 times again today for over 250 yards, 5th straight game over 225(all wins) Woody would be proud. Overall a weak effort on defense today one of the worse this year, although we held another team to less than 100 team rushing yards. At any rate we won so outright Big Ten champs this year.
