2009 College Football Season

LSU has a lot of "gut checking" to do if they wanna stay in the top 10 this year, looking at last nights' stats.

So happy for a good win for the Irish. Might now be against a top team, but it is a big stap. Claussen looks good. Maybe top 15 this year?

I'm recovering from a day of tailgating. I tailgated most of the day at the University of Houston game. Good times. I have yet to even watch the LSU game.

I would rather live in California than live there.

Yesssss!!!!Just made all the arrangements. I emailed your flight coupons and have you arriving into SFO. Afterward, we can go down to the Castro for drinks. Believe me, we won't have to pay! ((wink, wink)) Oh, and my boyfriend graciously offered to take the sofa... so you and I can bunk up until you find a place.

You just found yourself a new Longhorn, mister.

Believe me, LSU will be just fine. If you had seen firsthand how horrible Washington was last year (0-12 doesn't quite say it), you'd know that was a program just itching to get excited about something... anything. LSU traveled 3,000 miles and walked into what could've been the perfect storm. I was amazed at how much better the Huskies were. Night and day from last year. Sarkisian brought USC's DC with him, and completely revamped the offense. Washington outgained LSU 478 yds - 321 yds.

So basically, on paper it looked like a cupcake game... but it turned out to be anything but. If Sarkisian can recruit up there, they just may have a powerhouse program in a couple of years.

Agree. Reminded me of Miami at Washington in 2000. Ken Dorsey's first start and they caught Ed Reed on a bad angle for a TD.

That wasn't Jefferson's first start but seemed like it could be analogous (not an LSU loss but a tough game).

Agree with the later statement. It's not like UW has been bad forever.

I'm pretty sure Miami will have a really good chance at beating OU with Landry Jones back there at QB.

Well, Miam's brutal schedule starts tomorrow night. What's the word on the offense, and more importantly, the run defense? What are expectations like in Cane country? Is it an issue of Shannon winning a certain number of games... or specific games?

Sorry for all the inquiries, but I never hear/read much about Miami out here on the west coast.

I still think Tubbs has got his eye on that HC spot!;)

thats alright, new england wouldn't accept you anyway...lol:laugh2:

Im glad. Really.

TT - I really could give two sh*ts what you think or feel about any region in this county. This thread isn't about that.

Who said Florida wasn't categorized with the rest of the south?

Good, then it wont hurt you when I say NE is a terrible place.

Cougar high is a rather...dark place. Interesting decision.

Do you talk crap about everything? You seem like a miserable person TT.

I live in Houston. If I want to tailgate at a local college game U of H is the way to go. I'm sure I could go on any college campus around the country and have fun on any given Saturday unlike you.

Being the 3rd largest university in Texas makes it feel like high school to you I suppose.........

It's not a top tier football program but I wouldn't call it a high school atmosphere. That is just ridiculous.

Only their optometry school is up to snuff. There is a reason they are that size and not even being considered to be the 3rd Tier 1 university in Texas.

Watch out for the Nebraska Cornhuskers this year. With Oklahoma gone, watch the huskers give Texas a problem in the Big 12 championship game. Also watch out for this new Invalid Link Removed

Mark Whipple is the word on O. Former HC (UMass) and an assistant in the NFL for a while (last at Philly as the QB coach).

Jacory Harris is THE man. Finally.

We got WR's. Y'all saw that. We got some big guys - LaRon Byrd and Leonard Hankerson - and some speedsters - Travis Benjamin and Thearon Collier. I like the mix.

Left side of the OL is back. Not sure that means much. But they were our best OL last year. RT bothers me. I don't like the guy we have penciled as a starter.

At RB - we've got a lot of guys that have carries (mainly because Javarrious has been injured so much). You guys saw a bit of Lee Chambers in the bowl game. I think he worked his way to 3rd RB.
Graig Cooper will be 1B with James' 1A. After that it's true frosh Mike James and Lamar Miller and forgotten Damien Berry (had an awesome spring game).

Basically - we have a lot of WR's and RB's that have scored TD's and dunno if we have enough passes/runs to go around.

Our go to guy for a passing yard seemed to be Byrd. For rushing - it's supposed to be James, when he's healthy. But may turn into Mike James (big back).

I dunno what Whipp will do but sounds like he has some crazy formations from what the practice reports say. Dunno how you'd prepare for his offense.
The old game tapes from when he was an HC were wild compared to our offense the last few years.

As far as D - the front 7 should be pretty darn good. We've got a few DE's out for FSU, which is troubling. But we've still got monster Marcus Forston eating space in the middle.
We've got some good rush DE's and one hybrid that can play the run.

Thing with the run D that should help is having Colin McCarthy back (WLB). He went down in the 3rd game. He's a senior.

Got Sean Spence on the strong side back. Kid is a baller.

We'll be better against the run if we keep a few key guys healthy just because all the freshman now have a year under their belts, IMO.
Are we a top 15 rush D? No.

The secondary looks to have some pretty serious depth issues - esp. at corner. Our probable FS is out for FSU (Vaughn Telemaque). We hope it's nothing bad.
Going to put true frosh Ray Ray Armstrong in the game more likely. Kid is a beast but not there yet as far as pass covereage.

It's an issues with just winning. People are tried of GT beating us 5 years in a row. And tired of VT winning the conference. Esp. tired of UNC and Butch.
But if he just wins - that's what we are looking for. Looking for improvement from last year's 7-6 record.

Agree - that interest on Tubs part will grow if he doesn't hire in somewhere this season. Randy will get '10 regardless. His contract goes that far and we can't afford the buyout.

But if we have another 7-6 season - that's going to create a lot more doubts inside the athletic dept. He's still got strong support from what I've heard. Primarily because he's a Cane at heart.

We'll see tomorrow night. I feel good about the game though.

This has been a damn good game to watch. Both teams have talent, and they both keep shooting themselves in the foot!

Speaking of foot... this FSU freshman kicker has a big one! 52yd and 45yd FGs... although he needs some work on PATs.

Noles lead 34-31 with 4 minutes left.

Crunch time for the Canes...

EDIT: Touchdown Miami! 38-34 with 2 minutes left.

Crunch time for the Noles...

EDIT 2.0: W-o-w...

Congrats, jmh!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It's a Canes thing!

Jacory Harris. Damn it - that man! 386 yds on the road. In Tally. On Labor Day night.

Best QB in the ACC. True Soph.

Now all they need is a defense! Nah man, just messin' with ya. What a great game! Harris kept his composure... should call him "Ice Man."

Agree. We are banged up on the DL. But we still played the run pretty well I thought.
Our best safety was out (Telemaque). We NEED him back clearly.

We had some guys that played but didn't do anything (Sean Spence - our best LB last year).

But Brandon Harris at corner had a huge game (#1). He broke up the fade route on 1st down there at the end of the game.
Kid is a soph.

The D needs more time to gel in the new system.

This is why I said I agreed with Desmond Howard - next year we should challenge for the national title. All our best players are sophomores.

Your "Hogs" are going to be tied up and roasted in Gainesville on October 17th. ;)

Don't be jealous of the plaque. I'm sure after Florida throttles them Tebow will gladly take them on a tour of the campus so they can see it for themselves. :afro:
It is funny how people in Florida think they are god's gift to football because they have been a good team for all of what? The last five years? The worship of Tebow makes me gag. It is only matter of time before the church of scientology or some other crazy sect deems him a saint and asks him to lead, which of course he will, and then I await the day he brings out the cool-aid. He better enjoy this now because come next year, it is linebacker or nothing.

Anyway, gained alot of respect for Miami last night.

We are.

The word would be "dominant".

He (Tebow) better enjoy this now ..
He's been waiting for your advice.

Hey "swim", it's easy to talk smack when you still have over 40 days left to walk the Plank into the Swamp.
See ya next month in Gainesville at the tailgate - the only part of the day Hogs are any good.

I didn't say the hogs are going to beat Florida in the swamp. We also have one of the hardest schedules in the country, look it up. Florida also refuses to play anyone when it comes to non-conference. They also refuse to play anywhere except for the sacred "swamp". Players should avoid Florida if they want an NFL career, these systems are a proven failure in the league. I think we will test people much more than anyone gives us credit for, which I love. I am going to love it when we regulate Georgia next week. We have one of the most explosive offenses in the country, try and keep up.

O and lol to being god's gift to football. Wasn't it less than 10 years ago you were Bobby Bowden's whipping boy. I am also sure the U made you look foolish for decades. So enjoy your current success...once Urban Meyer moves to Notre Dame you can have Ron Zook back.

Incorrect

In 1964, the Razorbacks were the only team to go through the regular season and a bowl game undefeated, and they were awarded the Football Writers Association of America National Championship.

So we do indeed have a national championship.

295 Gators have been drafted to the NFL. 246 Razorbacks have been drafted to the NFL. So, there is hardly a talent gap between our schools.

Geeeezzz...and Carter was President in 1980.
There's no time like the present, try living in it.

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn't exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.

From College Football Data Warehouse

The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 - 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 - Current.

Links:
History of Polls
Polling Systems 1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!

1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!

1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year.

1961 National Championship- Finally a legitimate NC. One poll didn't give it to Bama though.

1964 National Championship- While the AP did award the NC to Bama (10-1-0), Arkansas had the better record, 11-0. Alabama played Texas in their bowl and LOST. The AP final poll was before the bowl.

1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games.

1978 National Championship- AP gives this to Alabama(11-1-0) even though USC (12-1-0) had the better record Guess who Alabama lost to that year? USC!!!!!!!!!. UPI gave the NC to USC.

1979 National Championship- Their second legitimate NC. Their first Unanimous NC.

1992 National Championship- Their third legitimate NC. Their second Unanimous NC.

How did I know you'd be in here after that post?

Even if you critique it down to 2... that's twice the amount Auburn's won!

No Auburn has 2 I think.. The difference is, Auburn doesnt go around bragging about there "NC's" to everyone they meet and making a endless supply of tee shirts that say GOT 12 and tatoo'ing the number 12 to our testacles and arms.

C'mon, Auburn does the same thing... and their fans would do it just as blatantly if their football winning percentage came close to matching Bama's. There are sites claiming as many as eight national championships, when in reality, it's only one (1957). That "people's champion" stuff from '93 and '03 doesn't really count outside of Lee County.

It's even more amusing listening to a Razorback fan give us his delusional prophecy.

You and the rest of the Razorback fans must have quite an attenuated gag reflex by now then, eh? An impressive talent to no doubt demonstrate at your tailgait parties! :18: :laugh2: I'll really enjoy when the Gators stomp the "Hogs" in the ground later in the year. Pssst... get out o' here with that piddly .684 winning %. Nah man, how are the Huskers looking for Bo's 2nd season in Lincoln? They play V-Tech in a few weeks. I would expect the Hokies to be a little more prepared on offense than they were against Bama.

If not for Reggie Fish's muffed punt for TD, you would have lost that game to us terrible Razorbacks. LOL and that is when Casey Di.ck was our QB and Houston Nutt was coach. That would have been embarassing wouldn't it? Then we would have regulated Ohio State.

My "Oh no. Another Gator/Tebow Obsessive Disorder" is how we (I include every fan who is not gator to be we) see the Florida Gator Nation/ESPN commentary's ball sucking obsession with Tim Tebow. It is like you just watched him walk on water. When he gave his tearful "the speech" I felt embarrassed for him. It was so lame I had to change the channel.

I'll go in with that.

Hoping now that Osborne has taken over AD position things will get back on track, Callahan set em back big time and they should of never let him outta the plains alive. Should of let the gimp(Pulp Fiction) get ahold of him and feed em to the pigs or wild boars(Hannibal)..........want pics Rubberring.

Va Tech will be tough, in Blacksburgh.
Couple more recruiting classes for Pelini and should be back in Big 12

Oh and def not affraid of Tyrod Taylor(bootleg Vick), he ****ing sucks!!!!!!!!!!! Va Tech's "D" a little, but their "O"?? Def not scarrrrrrr of that.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and that thing called "reality" can be a real b*tch...

Just remember that your own personal savior will be gone next year preaching the good word in the Philippines and your gators will begin to slip without anyone to give speeches. Then Mr. Arrogant Meyer will head to Notre Dame after they fire Charlie Weis for choking yet again.

Yeah, Tyrod looked like a deer in headlights last Saturday. He never even attempted to run on Bama's 3-4 defense. If the Huskers get a good ground game going, Tech's defense will be a lot less impressive in the 2nd half. Blacksburg can be tough... and it is a long way from Lincoln, but I think they'll be okay.

Oh, and as far as the pics go... don't tease me.
