13 Weeks to RPS Rawdawg Nats: Herder's PUUUGHE Comeback

Pirates acquire Justin Morneau, and you can sew up the NL Central.

And I think I have man love for Andrew McCutchin. He would look good in a tigers uniform...

He's one helluva ballplayer. His hands are so fast. That's why he's a 30 homer guy at a buck eighty five. Hard to believe that three years ago, we had 57 wins.

Yeah, the pirates deserve to be in this year. They've sucked for so long. Is grilli still hurt?

Yeah, forearm strain. I believe he'll be back in the middle of September. I only went to one or two at three rivers. What a big place. It's amazing that the bucs used to fill that place in the early 90s.

Ahh, best time of the year is approaching. Playoff baseball and footballs beginning. It's impossible to hate on the Pirates, they've been down for too long. The Reds have me 10 kinds of stressed out and looking like a one game playoff is imminent.

My number one form issue on the olympic lifts is definitely not coming to full hip extension. I'm not sure what you mean by arms coming too soon, though. It's hard to make any progress without coaching, and I wonder if I'm hurting more than helping by ramming weights overhead with poor form. I'd bet another thing you'll notice with a side view is that the bar comes away from my body when I snatch. Hard to say.

Definitely love the way stones tear up my arms. We were thinking about making some for my strongman prep, but we never got around to it. There's so much that can be done with them. Over bar, over shoulder, loading, carrying. We're pouring concrete on the new house sometime in September, perhaps I'll discuss taking the excess to make stones...

Post more vids and I'll help you out best I can. Arms too soon before you fully extend, your arms are really only there to pull yourself under the bar, not reverse curl the bar up. Ya, the bar should be staying as close to your body as possible.

9/3 Pressing Matters

CGBP (2" from slicks)
225x10x3
275x1 almost lost it, pressed it too low
305x1 PR, quick
315x1 PR smooth
Switch to narrower comp grip (pinkie inside ring)
355x0 burned out. Oh well.

Seated Press (no back)
135x8x3

Pull Up/Dip
BWx10,8,5/BWx15x3

Abbreviated sesh, mom's birthday. Gonna have to hit back and other external rotation tomorrow. First time maxing on CGBP,so it's a PR by default. To be honest, I've only done maybe 40-50 sets of CGBP in my years of training. Didn't plan on maxing, but I felt like it at that moment. I think the seated presses with no back might be harder than standing.

Also, TEN WHOLE PULL UPS!

Nice pressing there herder...

**** yeah good job!

Dude...next week I bet you'll knock out a whole 11 pull-ups!

****, let's not get ahead of ourselves! if I do that, I'll probably have to say the hell with 'em. Lol.

Thanks, all. I'll have videos up shortly. They're kind of weird, but better than the previous view I used in the shed, and better than the ball shot you guys got from the meet, which let me know I need a bigger snigglet.

Here's the presses. Not bad. Probably a better angle to assess everything but leg drive.

Have you ever heard of rack chins from DC training? This is how I got my chins going in the right direction. I began with just BW and started adding weight in my lap until I felt like standard chins became easier. Just another way to work the movement...

Those are great! I did those weekly when I ran PHAT

I need to do something like this. I'm not sure I'll get what I need out of chinning if I only muster 20 reps a session.

Jeeze, I hadn't noticed how looooong those close grip benches are. Those should be fun to rotate in for 3s or 8s or maybe even as a ME movement.

Solid CGBP, except that's my competition grip, lol.

Lol. That's a full hand inside of the grip I used for both competitions. I think I could benefit from the stretch reflex and speed off the chest gained by moving closer, but it hasn't panned out at max weights, only repping. I really wanted to go closer this last meet, but pain dictated I play it safe. Today there was no pain and I moved the weights well until I tried 355, but I don't like having my elbows come outside my hands as I'm pressing, it seems like a force-leaking position.

Elbows are flaring out to load the chest/delts since the tris aren't strong enough on their own.

I'm working on having more triceps. And more chest and delts, too.

 that is what I thought when I read it...my grip has been pretty narrow lately.

And this is me again...gotta work on the triceps myself. :(

Solid pressing herder.

Deadlifts and Back

Worked up to 385x5, 425x3 (ties beltless PR)

Snatch Grip from floor (hands to collars)
335x3 PR weight

Pull Ups
10,5, -add green band- 15, 12

BB Row
225x8x3 Need to get better at these.

Hammer Strength Low Row
2plates x12x3

Pullapart series x2

Facepulls (alternate low & high cables)
70x10x5

Band Benching the bar for lots of reps.

For band benching, I just held the band in my hands like a pullapart, stretched it a little, and then grabbed the bar. It reminds me to keep tight throughout the ROM and hits the back of the shoulder pretty hard.

Keep it up... hope to see you there.
-Kyle Brown

Thanks guys!

Yeah, it felt like my chest was sitting on my knees doing those reps. I saw a video of Klokov doing like 500lbs hands on the collars with a 3" deficit the other day. I don't even have room for all that! I was trying to do the Dan Green deadlift routine, but I couldn't find anything to put the bar on or to stand on at the gym. Deadlift training will be at the shed from here on out.

Keep it up... hope to see you there.

Welcome! I'll be there. I'm just hoping I can bench as much as you with a couple layers of polyester helping me.

Or just use your chest/delts more, I believe that was one of the parts of his recent articles.

Very nice workout, I snatch collar to collar. You should take a grip width where the bar sits in the hip crease.

For the band benching, just double a mini and put your hands through it, that's how I used to do it.

Ya my bench sucks so everything needs work. :p

For the band I usually double a mini or use one of my short minis. Nice work herder...I have Snatch Grip SLDs today and I want to stand on a box and be like Dan Green. :D

Yeah, the doubled mini was too much for my grip width, and it cut off some ROM, so I rigged it up.

Parents agreed to TWAJ, just emailed Chad. Hopefully it all goes through!

All I have to do now is set up lodging and we're golden. Just had dinner with the brother after his first ever college football game. He didn't get on the field, but that'll come.

Ate at the famous Primanti Bros. afterward and had my first food coma since the meet (didn't bring my damn Anabolic Pump).

I hate you. There better have been fries on your sandwich...

Cappicola n'egg n'at double meat with an Arn City. Where I'm from, you don't ask for subtractions on your sandwich, only additions; and asking for anything more than two ingredients in your drink is grounds for being thrown out.

I love that place...

It's heaven. The one on the strip is so much better both in terms of food and atmosphere, but the others are also excellent.

285 miles Detroit to Pittsburgh, I could be there by the 4 o'clock games...

You could? That's some serious driving, my man. I won't tell your family.
