13 Weeks to RPS Rawdawg Nats: Herder's PUUUGHE Comeback

Definitely crushed that...

Thanks, guys. That was about all I had that day. Bench went 2-for-3. Hit 320 real good and 345 was better than I hit 340 any time in my training cycle. Then I got greedy and went for 365. Didn't keep my scaps down and the weight shifted to my head right off my chest. So now I need 520 for 1400. I'm gonna go 455, then by feel, then 520. Likely 500 second. Lower back's taking a pounding today! Let's make it happen.

You smoked it dude, well done. Get ready for that dead and pull like never before. You've got 520 no problem.

More in the tank on that squat for sure. The technical lift is done with the bench. Now it's time to go caveman big boy.

Whew boy! 455 smoked, 500 hardest pull of my life, 520 glued to the ground.

1380 total, I'm ecstatic. I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Awesome day. Saw a 565 raw bench from the same guy that benched 775 in April (he went full power for the first time since high school and set an RPS classic raw amateur record). Saw a 2400lb total by a 22 year old 275, and saw an 800lb deadlift that was all good; but he beat the down command.

AWESOME DAY! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR BEING THERE FOR ME FROM MY INJURY ONWARD! TIME TO GET BETTER!

I'll get 'em up when I can get to a computer. My phone is getting old and won't hold a charge, so it keeps dying. I wanted to get the 800# deadlift, but my phone was dead. Gimme a couple hours and I'll splice together my meet. Mom missed half of my first bench and my first deadlift. I'm not mad at her, she did awesome.

Solid day and nice total!

My only successful deadlift. My upper back was so out of position I thought I wasn't going to lock it out.

My 345 bench, the only complete bench gotten. Sorry I couldn't splice it, guys. No computer today.

You left some on the bar,,.

Yeah. I don't think I strained a lot in this training cycle. It was more like rep stuff. I needed to grind a few out to get the feel for it.

Also didn't get a lot of volume at top weight. My 345 bench burned me out for 365, and my 500 pull would have left me unable to do anything over 400 after that. Beat up. Conditioning.

I definitely left some out there. I could've picked up 5-10 on squat, 10 on bench, and maybe 5 to 10 on deadlift, not after my 500 pull, though. I'm perfectly okay with 1380. This past month I kept trying to do the math on a 1400 total, and I didn't expect to have a realistic shot at it. So I'm really happy with the day even if I left some out there. I didn't even think about 1400 until after my 345 bench.

I read once that "a meet is not an ideal place to collect maxes. Three attempts is far too few to pinpoint a max, and fatigue throughout the day will affect the later lifts." Not to say I couldn't have done better, obviously I could, but I surprised myself today and learned a lot once again.

I have a love/hate relationship with conditioning.

Tire flipping FTW!

I agree. I hit my lifting and at the end I don't leave myself enough time for conditioning.

Or I tell myself I'm too tired to condition.

That's why I dedicate two days to it (at least)

I've done sled pulls as assistance during a lower body session, but not recently.

I need that. Give me that, I'll trade you for some bodyweight. It's not muscle, it's just bodyweight.

Watched all the vids...Awesome work man. Looks like a fun atmosphere.

Rob, it was a frickin blast. Just a bunch of guys having fun lifting weights. A bench-only guy finished his third bench right after mine. By the time I had my pants on, he was already tipping a big bottle of craft beer.

That's awesome man, great day all around.

Congrats HD

You killed that squat

Thanks, ace. After watching the video on my last squat enough times, it finally is starting to look easier than it felt. Lol.

I thought I was hurting yesterday . . .

I was wrong.

Checked the RPS website, got the #2 all time squat in the 220lb 20-23yr old drug tested raw with knee wraps' the #4 all time full meet bench in that division, and #5 total. Missed the all time squat by 10lbs, the #3 bench by 5lbs, and the #4 total by 5lbs. Though I feel I should be clear, "all time" for this federation is about two years. Lol. Now it's time to take aim at the open division!

I'm glad I didn't have those numbers memorized, or I could have really messed with myself, jumping from 505 to 550 and missing would have been devastating. I could certainly have gotten 355, but we knew that.

If I could get my deadlift rolling, I could really start going big. I noticed that a lot of the guys that trained at Lexen and were in this meet looked very average in terms of size and musculature, like some guys just saw a flyer at a coffee shop and decided to do this powerlifting meet. The thing is, they all pulled HUGE. We're talking 540, 590, 650, et cetera. And these are guys that weren't putting up big totals, just big deadlifts. You can see it on the meet results at revolutionpowerlifting.com, any guy you see that had moderate squat and bench and a huge pull = Lexen trained. I need some deadlift coaching like that!

Man, you're close to getting in the books. RPS is new but looks like they are growing too, and fast.

Yeah, but I'm starting all over again with these new books. Which is good, I'll set my goals higher. At this point, I don't think I'll be losing any weight, it's just going to continue to get harder to make 220 (hopefully).

Got back at it today. Just trying to squat my lower back loose and wage the first battle of an all-out war on my upper back!

Squat (very very wide, 1" high)
235x5x5

Sumo Deadlift
245x1x3
335x1x2

DB Incline Press/Pull up
70x12x2/BWx6x2

Lat Pulldown/Low Pulley Row
12x4/12x4

Pullapart Series/Facepulls
10x7/10x5

Hammer Strength Row
70x12x1

My fat ass knocked this out in 45 minutes. Where has that been all year? Pouring sweat. Feels good, though. Just what I needed today. Probably going to do sport practice type main lifts with weak point accessories for the next few weeks while I plan my next move.

I just realized that I forgot to mention one thing about meet day . . .

I said what's up to Chuck Vogelpohl. Dude looks like he's eaten and worn so much iron in his day, that now he's actually made of iron. The first thing that sprang to my mind was "Silverback". He was putting on a squat seminar yesterday, if I hadn't made other plans/had the money, I would have gladly paid $100 to have Chuck teach me how to squat.
