13 Weeks to RPS Rawdawg Nats: Herder's PUUUGHE Comeback

I see. I knew next to nothing about the joints when I worked at GNC. Just, "Here, try our brand product." I've been slacking on my Omega 3s like a douchebag, too. That's gotta stop.

Check this out man. I'm know I'm guilty of this and it address arm issues with squat. I've been in the rippetoe kick the last few days.

Dude, whenever I'm having trouble, I go back to my Rippetoe articles.

Genius...

Agreed. There's a lot of good information in there. A lot of things to implement to improve my elbow health.

I wouldn't buy cissus. I haven't experienced benefits from it, and yes I've gone through bottles of super cissus.

The old fish oil is how I roll.
The ingredient paractin is something to look into in joint help.

I think everyone should get on the old fish oil as a base and build from there if you wish

That's cause you haven't felt real, chronic pain. You're too young. Cissus (joint help) works...

It's one of the 2 ingredients. I still think paractin plays the significant role in why you like it so much. I say this Bc when I was on it, I experienced some relief. I've taken cissus for a year now, but never before the paractin.

I'm not bashing joint help at all. It does work

You do bring an interesting point up about age thou

It's also because you took super cissus, which I believe is not standardized or 40%, cannot remember which one. All I know is it's not 5-10% standardized.

I'm pretty sure SC is 10%, and I am also fairly certain the extract they use is patented.

I've always used SCrx, and it most definitely makes a difference as to how my knees feel.

But, I could be wrong.

Patented does not mean standardized for a certain % extract.

I remember it being 40% and the newest google search for a label shows no mention of %.

This says 10% in new, and 5% in the old cissus rx.
Still not standardized, I think primaforce was 40%...
There was a SNS vs USP cissus thread a bit ago. I dunno crap about either.

Wasn't part of it, dunno, lol.

I can tell you that Cissus XT is 5% standardized though.

Primaforce was indeed 40%, although I'm not sure what that has to do with USP.

That's the one I was thinking of that was 40% that I mentioned earlier.

I have to reiterate what I said yesterday about Ox Lifts. Screw them. Granted I could have gone lighter and worked form and reps instead of working to a single. Still, those suckers are hard on the lower back.

Just watched "The Purge." Things could be worse. Nomsayin?

How was it? That didn't look like a movie I wanted to see. If that concept existed, the only change that would happen in my area would be a bunch of kids buying and smoking cigarettes and weed in the most public of places. You wanna break into my house? Come on in, the door's open. I'm a decent shot, but I make up for it by being pretty fast with a bolt action. I mean, I've only been doing it since I was nine. My neighbor's house you wouldn't make it within a hundred yards of his porch. Lol. I love the country.

I thought it was good. Pretty ****ed up...you do have to keep in mind I love thrillers/horrors/abnormal **** movies so my opinions are always on the bright side.
Original-10
Surprises-7
Cast-7.5
Dialogue-5
Freaking the wife out-priceless :D

If it happened in real life I'm moving to the country! Haha

I hate those kinds of movies. Hannibal Lecter movies, Insomnia, that ****'s cool, but the ones where they have critters jumping out from behind stuff and all the gore, that's not my bag. Though I have learned to handle it a little better by watching some of my buddy's dad's Ed Wood "classics". Dude has like every horror movie imaginable.

We'd be hung over in the man cave just trying not to die and playing COD every Sunday morning and he'd come back from the flea market with a stack of DVDs. "Coeds and Zombies 6! It got 3.4 stars out of 10 on IMDB! This is gonna be awesome!"

I was sent an old picture last night, circa fall 2010. Pretty funny. These days it looks like I ate the kid in that picture:

Bodyweight there was between 185-190. I would basically only eat protein and I'd go on 3-4 mile runs to keep my weight down. I was working a lot in the 12-15 rep range for the same reason. This was my first fall without wrestling to keep my weight in check, so I figured I'd have to do it on my own. I was pretty strong for a 21 year old who didn't have power training goals or do proper power assistance exercises. Nowhere near as strong as I am today, though.

For squats, I never used any back tightness, I would just go in and hit some bottomed out Oly squats with like 275 for four sets of 12. Bench, probably 225x6 for three sets, I know I got 225x8 or 9 once or twice. Deadlift I'd hit hitched singles wiith straps at 405 mayybe 425 and 315 for 3 sets of six. Seated DB shoulder presses with the 100s for 5s, DB chest presses sets of 8 with the 80s at either flat or incline. I COULD do five sets of 15 pull ups with five different grips. My lats and upper back were pretty sick for a kid my size at the time, or so I thought.

I didn't get really strong until that spring, when I went to the gym at Slippery Rock thinking I'd be a badass as per usual and then I finally saw what a large group of competitive/recreational bodybuilders all using AAS/PH/DS and training in the same place looked like. (I never found a hookup, thank God, didn't pop my cherry until summer of 2012).

I went from top 2 or 3 in terms of muscularity in all the gyms I'd been to, to being on the upper end of the middle of the pack. It opened my eyes as to what was strong. Sets of training partners doing seated shoulder presses 275 for 6, big-ass benches, t-bar rows with 45s to the end of the collars, and one strongman competitor who did triples with 405 in the FUKKING PUSH PRESS. After my weight drifted back over 200 from that damn cafeteria food, I got back to where I grow best, in the 6-8 range but with perfect mind/muscle form on each. That's where I hit my first three wheel bench, my first 225x10, 100x10 on incline, flat, and shoulder DB presses. I'd be in the gym for 2-3hrs a day, cause I never went to class. Still kept my squats in the 12-15 range for hypertrophy, since, you know, I was a "bodybuilder" at the time.

Update on many fronts:

Switched from 4dhea to stano last week. Finally kicked today. The lethargy I've been feeling the last two weeks is nowhere to be found and also I pissed out like a gallon of water today. I hate being watery. As a result, weight on the scale dropped to 235, which is about 233 by my count. The cut will be much more manageable from here, so I'll be maintaining my body weight from here on out. Just eating a little better but still eating a lot.

Benching today. Cube calls for speed bench at 275 for five doubles. I'm experimenting with a preworkout epsom salt bath as I type this, I will be bullying the shoulders, doing the Simple 6, and mashing my bicep and forearm. I'll start the session with slingshot sleeves and at any point if I begin to feel discomfort I'll put the slingshot on and work up until discomfort again, then back down to where there was none. Whatever weight I end up with is where I'll do my five sets of two. Pin presses, Lilly presses, and assistance will be played by ear. Let's make it happen!

Ok guys, what do we think of the bar speed?

I keep doing that and it makes me so angry.

I was able to watch it! Looks great! :D

Thanks, everyone! It felt good, I'm just going to have to keep taking care of the bicep and the benching will take care of itself.

I liked the dirty talk before you set up, ha!

What percentage was it?

That's 75% of 365, which is what I based my percentages off of. That would be a 5lb PR weight. Just gotta keep healing it. Took 295 for a ride to the pins and no anguish, so things are better than they were last week!

EDIT: Damn, that was awfully sexual sounding.

Speed Bench

275x5x2

Pin Press
295x3,4

Lilly Bench
245x8,9

JM Press
155x10
175x6
155x6 tris->shot

Pull ups
BWx5x5 went for strictness and lat activation today.

Catback High Pulley Rows
3x15

Facepulls
3x10

Delt Raises
3x12 pushing these a little harder

DB Preacher Curl

Bicep felt much better today. Got to my prescribed weight and didn't even need the slingshot. Moved my hands to pinkies 1" inside the ring (so about 2" out from where I was training), seemed to work excellently. Big test next week when I try to hit some triples with 315. Still going to use the safety squat bar this week and mash from here on out like I did today. Great day! I feel like whatever doesn't crush me at the meet, will be crushed. I'm thinking 325/350/365.

Good to hear things are looking up! I may do pin press instead of the Lilly press tomorrow. You've motivated me.

I like it! I like the pin press for speed off of the chest, but I think FOR ME that Lilly presses are more important. I need them for stability off the chest. I haven't had one stall out off of my chest recently, but I have lost bar path off of my chest on multiple occasions, so I desperately need it. But I figured I'd attack both at the same time.

Solid ass benching.

Herderdude, what do you like for mid-way sticking point...like 5 inches off the chest?

Also, that is a great feel when something hurts and then doesn't and you don't feel held back. That's awesome man.

Love that feel, man. I've had that feel entirely too often this year though!

For a sticking point there, there are a couple of ways you could go. You could do 2-board, towel bench, and floor press your face off and really attack that specific area. OR you could use Josh Bryant's preferred method for a sticking point ANYWHERE, and that's to get faster off of your chest. Pin presses, pause off the chest, things like that. I'd say doing a little of both will be your best option.

OHP is another great way to blast that sticking point. That'll build midrange pressing strength. You could do your pauses off the chest just below your sticking point, too.

Delt raises will definitely come in handy as well. I'd definitely add those on both of your upper body days, as they're nontaxing and will yield results. 5 inches is kind of that transition from lats to triceps. Sit there and pretend to bench sitting upright right now. Look at what happens 5 inches off of your chest. How do you get from tucked elbows off of your chest to flared elbows at lockout? That's right, it's a lateral raise. I don't do mine heavy, I do them very strict.

Wow! Thanks for going above and beyond what I expected for an answer. A lot to drink in. I appreciate it.

It kind of mirrors the approach I've taken to benching this cycle. Throw everything at it your body can handle, then throw some more at it, and hopefully it gets stronger. I've been stuck with the same PR since April. I'm not worried about deadlifts being stuck there, I had to rehab my lower back from ground zero. But the bench stall . . . It bothers me.

Yea, your bench is really your stand out lift IMO...granted you are strong all around. You just seemed to be way ahead on bench. Still are strong as **** on it. I have faith you'll beat that PR.
