The plains zebra utilizes female-defense polygyny. They live in one-male harems and all females within the harem mate with the harem stallion. The stallion defends the harem against predators and intruder males (Estes, 1991).

How does a male acquire a harem? When a bachelor male reaches sexual maturity, he will leave his bachelor herd and go and search for a young female in estrous. Once he finds one, he must try to abduct her from her harem group. She will generally be a younger female offspring of the harem stallion. The bachelor male will exhibit a phlegming behavior when he spots a female in estrous, then he must not only "play-fight" (or "neck") with the harem stallion (in order to prove his "worthiness" to the filly's father) but he must also ward off all other bachelor males that may want to mate with the estrous female.

My little Diggler. Normally I would find it hard to articulate my feelings, but you put me at ease and increase my cognitive psycho-motor control that allows me to type away. Furthermore, just thinking of you causes vasostimulatory perfusion that allows me to forcefully contract my little heart muscle, for you are selective which I really cherish because this does not affect me negatively. In addition, you increase my sexual function and drive while making me stronger. Not only do you make me stronger, but you protect me from radicals and inhibit those that try to make me weak and frail, nevertheless you free me and cause an elevation… What I am trying to say is you make me feel like a man. You make me want to go longer, make me stronger, and
allow me to quickly recover. You are the artist; I am the stone as you chisel my physique!

So, when I say you stimulate me, I say it sincerely. You make me hot inside, as you increase my blood flow and influence my mood. Because of you I am focused and I will not wither.
