Recovering AXoholic
I'm an avid movie-renter, but I'm not the best at 'keeping up with the times'

If you've seen any good movies lately, please post the title, genre, and comments. If it sounds good, I will rent it. And if I rent it and it totally sucks, I will leave you angry PM's about I didn't like it.

What Genre(s) are you most interested in?

For instance, in the category of Transexual Anal, I'd recommend "Ram it up my Shemale Ass" as a bit lacking in plot, character development and set design but excellent for well choreographed action with dramatic endings.

Not my thing, but I'm a Libertarian, live and let live I say.

Do you mean non block busters or any movie in general (like as known as V for Vendetta or lesser known ones?)

Id say The Incredibles (awsome animated movie that you and the GF would like an equal amount) Friday Night Lights, The Warriors, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Blade, Hostel. Boondock Saints, Seabiscuit. Note: Leaving out movies that Im assuming you already saw.

To be honest, despite all the crazy perverted crap I say, I don't really like pornos.

I like Comedies Dirty Work, Screwed, Strange Brew, Grandma's Boy, Clerks, Thank You for Smoking.

I really enjoy movies with thought-provoking plots like Se7en, Bicentenial Man, The Butterfly Effect (yeah, I liked that one). I saw Pan's Labyrinth the other week, that was a pretty good one.

Then there's movies about gangs/mobs like Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels, Snatch, The Departed, Scarface, Boondock Saints, The Road to Perdition.

Thanks for the Joker reps, Sinner.

The best Gang/mob/crime movies,IMO (one of my favorite genres) are, in no particular order

Heat
Ronin
Leon aka The Professional
The Usual Suspects
Reservoir Dogs

I'll think of some others in this and other categories.

They could be big or small productions, just basically something that has come out to video within the past few months which could be perceived as 'good'.

Movies that I have reseen lately and are thought provoking for me, off the top of my head

American Beauty
American Psycho
The Machinist
Harsh Times
Equilibrium
(must be locked into a Christian Bale mindset , at the moment)
Angel Heart

Just weird - Wild at Heart

For the Visuals and the smooth sexiness of the French language - The Brotherhood of the Wolf, aka Pacte Des Loupes, the first half especially.

Creep Show - the extended version of Event Horizon

Photo essay, thought provoking War Film - The Thin Red Line.

I had the displeasure of seeing that movie in an inner city Dollar Cinema. I'm am trying to avoid making a bigot/stereotype comment (because that could be very easily interpreted as I do not want it to be), but I think you can imagine what it was like.

I have to say that "28 weeks Later", should be soon if not now out on DVD, got critical and popular acclaim but personally speaking, the plot was good but I could'nt accept the tactical procedures employed by the perimeter personnel and the fleeing soldier, that ran bad counter to my SERE experience.

Crude, Rude and funny as hell at times - Jackass 2, the unedited version. Much Raunchier than the first one.

I'm shameless and untwitchable, but even I balked at the Horse **** Milking/Drink and Throw Scene, just ****ing nasty.

Was Borat Any Good? It seemed like it was HUUGE for a little while, but then died down kinda quickly. I just don't want to end up watching another movie like Napoleon Dynamite. Gosh, that movie sucked (no pun intended).

The Prestige of your in the mood for a well done movie, great acting, and an awsome plot line/twists. Plus Christian Bale is the man so ya know.. Highly reccommended.

Goodfellas and Casino for mob movies (if you havent some how seen them already) ~ not recent but for the mob listing.

Actually, Borat was funny (it was so popular I assumed I'd hate it).

Thought-provoking - Solaris - It's slow and not action-packed but full of deep existential ideas (go with the Soderbourgh/Clooney version)
-Stalker - (Russian) very slow but an interesting allegory

Gangster - Donnie Brasco, Blow, Carlito's Way (this one's so-so as I recall)

weird movies - Mulholland drive, blue velvet, fear and loathing in Las Vegas

Thrillers - try Hitchcock - my favs - Rear Window, Rope, North-by-Northwest.

Ive seen just about every popular movie since 95 and almost every movie that Movie Gallery carried from july 01- 06. Than I kind of got bored . I know how to spot a good movie.

Though provoking = Equalibrium, The Illusionist, Copy Cat

Shaun of the Dead was funny as hell, and so was 40yr old virgin.

Eye Candy=Ghost Rider-action, adventure, guy with a flaming skull... what more could you ask for.

Ever see "Being John Malcavich". I probally spelled it wrong but it is a good movie. I rent movies all the time, weekly really. I used to me a member of netflix till credit card debt caught up. I rented "Pride" last week. It was ok, but not great, a typical for that type of movie except that it was set in the 1970's.

Gangster movies I've watched recently (some of them for the umpteenth time) I really liked:

King of New York (Walken)
Bad Liutenant (Keitel)
Casino
Good Fellas

For a thinking movie I thought A Scanner Darkly was awesome. Then again I like PKD. Bladerunner is a classic.

A really different movie I saw recently was The Fountain. If I had to describe it, I'd say it's like an impressionist painting except as a movie. Like, it's not supposed to be realistic and have a plot that makes perfect sense; it's just supposed to give you the impression of the themes. So if you go in knowing it isn't going to make sense and just taking it in like you'd admire a painting, it's really good. If you are expecting a cohesive, understandable plot, you'll hate it.

I have been thinking about renting "The Fountain" but everytime I pick it up and read the back I put it back down because it just looks like something that will put me to sleep...

Oh, just remembered... another one for a thinker has to be Donnie Darko. Talk about weird and entertaining.

I was thinking about that one. Jason Statham is the sh*t.

I went to Blockbuster today, originally thinking about renting American Beauty, but it was out. I decided to take nobody's advice and rent The 25th Hour because Edward Norton has yet to let me down.

I think I saw it, but I don't really remember it. Ed Norton is definitely a good actor though. I like all his movies.

23 looks like a good pyschologal thriller..along the lines of butterfly effect and the machinist.

I'll save you the trouble. It was stupid and predictable.

Oh and if you like good action movies, Crank was AWESOME. That sucker was nonstop. Totally unrealistic but who cares?

I almost forgot, if you haven't seen Children of Men you really need to.

I think I was looking at that movie last week, but put it back on the shelf. I'll have to check it out.

BTW, 25th hour was a pretty good flick. It's not up there with American History X, Fight Club, or Rounders, but I give it a passing grade.

crank was a sick flick
another good one is smokeing aces, but shooter is a must see.

Every time I walk into blockbuster, that movie (shooter) is FRESH OUT. Mark Wahlberg has come a long way in his career, and somehow blossomed into quite a respectable actor.

Was Smokin' Aces Good? I was really looking into getting it, but heard from a friend (with similar taste in movies) that it was not as good as advertised.

Smokin Aces was pretty good I reckon. A touch of Hollywood trash but very good and worth seeing.

Someone else mentioned Shaun of the Dead too. Very funny flick though it dies towards the end.

Just get you a HD cable and watch them for free,I watched Hostel 3 in hi-def 3 weeks before it hit theatres,at the house...Especially since you got the home-theatre setup...have some friends over and watch some stuff before it hits theatres...or pretty much any movie you can think of
