Estradiol Ultrasensitive or not?

so I have heard that the only useful E2 assay is the sensitive or ultrasensitive test, not the regular one. Is this the general consensus? The regular assay from Labcorp runs $47, while the sensitive one runs $180 - pretty steep if you are paying yourself.

Would the regular test be of any value?

Good question because i told them male ultrasentive and it came back <2 out of <29. Was this the wrong test and what was the results telling me? this was by quest too
 
that is interesting - in the past I had an ultrasensitive test done and got the same very low result, while the "regular" estradiol test showed a much more realistic value of 30

make sure the ranges are from 10-60 thats the one you want !! I am not to keen on this other test.. i wil make sure to get the right one next time ..
 
so I suppose the question remains, is the standard (non-sensitive) Estradiol test of any utility for a male?

Given the fact that my esterone was high and e2 was low according to tthis test makes me wonder about how accurate that ultra sensitive estrogen. Considering I have elevated estrogen symtpoms as well as low..I think drs did wrong test

You are really want to check them all.
The E2 have to be ultrasensitive to have value.
On my last test I did not get all that I want, but at least I have a list that you can take a look at here, post #1:

The range we were give was <29 is all and I had a value of <2 so what does that tell me ? See yours was 27 and that one i am completly familar with not the scale <29 ? is that for a female only then ?

You can study all available estrogen tests in Endo Manual by Quest, pages 61 thru 70

The fractionated is interesting, it checks E1, E2, E3
and the E2's range looks like the one in ultrasenistive E2 test.

Which one did they do on me? with a reference range of <29 ?
test was ultrasentive estrodial but why did I get a reference range of <29 ? that does not make sense and how do you interpret it with being <2 ? Does that mean I am low ? another guy said he was<2 and was at 30

If you are able, scan page containing that part of the test and post it, possibly we can figure this out.

Saids that essay less then <29 are worthless because it does not tell you the range were you are at ..and mainly only used by females NOT MALES ..
 
Ok, here seems to be part of the issue.

if you look at the PDF manual from quest, it lists test number 30289x as having the range of 10 to 50, ultrasensitive by extraction, this is clearly the test Dr. Crisler wants to have done.

Now, If you look at quest's online test menu, same test number, it lists the Estradiol ultrasensitive test per the below.

so the problem is, I had the below test done, we waited 10 days for it and it just showed 3 as the result, for the less than 29 range. What we really want is the 10 to 50 range done, but per the online menu, the same test code is listed with different ranges.

so what are we do to? I have a blood test planned for next week and I certainly don't want to pay all that money, wait another 10 days to get another <29 test result back.

just tell them you want the one from range 10-50 and not <29 ..

jansz that manual is copyrighted 2004 not 2007 LOL and ranges are all diffrent I swear its like the drs want us sick !!
the new reference range for dhea-s is 100-397 not 600 like before and they reduce the high free T to 155 vs 210

I compared ranges between my Apr13/07 test and EndoManual 3rdEd 2004
I had to go to separate web pages for the lattest (Free BioAvailable and Total Testosterone) test. See SHBG ranges changed big.

Note;
this web site is not Quest Diagnostic
it is
St Louis Children's hospital.
So, it is secondary information.
For example, on SHBG test the site was updated 4/06
the ranges are Males: 20-60 nmol/l

There are changes going in testing, cutting edge everywhere.

So I just spoke to Quest re 30289 - ultrasensitve assay. I started out in baltimore and finally ended up at the lab out west that runs the test. This is the right assay for the sensitve extration method, and whatever the value is (be it 20 or 55) it will be reported, however the normal range is listed less than 29.

The tech indicated that very low values, like mine was at 3, could be due to poor handling of the sample (only stable for 48hrs room temp) or other issues with the test.

next time I run this test I'll also run the standard estradiol to compare values.
