yeah cost of living in Seattle is insane now. only state paying more for gas than a year ago I think. My wife really likes Seattle area. We're in the midwest now and cost of living is hard to beat the midwest when you compare it with the Seattle area.
This is a lot like how I felt about Austin for a long time. Now the traffic is so bad there, and cost of living is so ridiculously high from everyone from blue states pouring in to save some money on taxes.... Now I still like to visit, bit no way I would want to live there unless retired and rich. I would either need enough money to stay downtown all the time or, what is the purpose of being there. The drive is ridiculous even if only coming in a short distance, and real estate has gone mad! One of my friends bought her house in a decent neighborhood several years ago for like 80,000 because it was kind of far out from downtown. Now her house is worth 590,000, and is only like 1350 square foot, so basically a shoe box here in Houston. My home is 3000Sq ft, and worth about half of that.yeah cost of living in Seattle is insane now. only state paying more for gas than a year ago I think.
funny thing is I love Seattle. I really enjoy playing tourist in a city only an hour away, and if I could afford it I'd totally do a skyrise condo type lifestyle in the right neighborhood. But even with the Mariners in the battle for 1st place right now, I have tickets for seats that are 4 rows back from the dugout and I can't find anyone who wants to go to Seattle with me to see a potential playoff team from fantastic seats, the locals all hate Seattle these days.

I follow this one price of living channel on YouTube who posts comparisons of housing prices in Vancouver vs European castles, I’ll try to find the videos and send them here.
Oh no, that’s terrible….definitely will keep him in our prayers.Form the posts in the other thread, it sounds like Mike needs open heart surgery, infection in a heart valve, idk. Sounds really bad. I know bacterial infections can do that but I don't know anything I'm just guessing. Hoping for the best.
If it weren't for the possible infection that wouldn't be so bad, they have gotten really good with heart surgery nowadays, but the possible infection brings a much more harrowing outlook. I sure hope he recovers completely.Oh no, that’s terrible….definitely will keep him in our prayers.![]()
when I was spending a lot of time in Austin for work I shopped real estate there and I was shocked that comparable houses were 1/3 of the price here in Seattle, but then I realized the property taxes were much higher so final monthly payment was the same. But now Texas is talking about dropping state prop taxes?! game changer!! When I visited LA for work back in the mid 2000's I remember my supplier down there telling me that the traffic we sat in was normal (it was miserable). she said it was usually at least 2 hours a day for her. I literally remember saying "I'd never do that, not in a million years". Fast forward to 2025 and I'm literally doing that every day now. 1hr to work, 1 to 3 hours to get home. I truly hate everything about Washington except.... the views. we pay an arm and a leg to live under shitty politics unfortunately but its so hard to pull away from puget sound. my roots are so deep here. This is a lot like how I felt about Austin for a long time. How long ago was that? The prices have been skyrocketing the last 5 years or so. My friends house has gone up about 50-75g a year the last few years.when I was spending a lot of time in Austin for work I shopped real estate there and I was shocked that comparable houses were 1/3 of the price here in Seattle, but then I realized the property taxes were much higher so final monthly payment was the same. OK now I gotta think numbers...How long ago was that? The prices have been skyrocketing the last 5 years or so. My friends house has gone up about 50-75g a year the last few years.
Oh, well yeah that 160 house is probably listing for 500 now. Our property taxes are high, but I think school taxes which come as part of the property taxes are what really does it. I find it so annoying that renters don't have to pay property taxes, but they get to benefit off of my phucking tax dollars!!! They need to separate the school taxes from the property taxes and start hitting renters up too!!! Yeah, I am curious how they plan to get rid of the property taxes? I mean we ain't selling Mary Jane to get more tax dollars, so where do they expect the tax dollars to come from. We know damn good and well it will just be slid over to something else.OK now I gotta think numbers...
picked up the customer around 2007-2008 so I was going down about twice a year (always spring and fall for a few years), then my buddy (coincidentally my lifting partner with the big squat) moved down there to take over the account for me. Bought a house in Hutto for like $75k, got married, got divorced, sold the house for double, then moved back to WA before 2015 so it was in that 2007-2013/14 time span I think. my customers had this decently nice suburb house in Austin and was pissed cause his uncle wanted to sell it to him for $160k. which he thought was attrocious and I was like dude that's a $500k home back in WA. But that was before I realized his property taxes made the payment about the same as the $500k home back here.
I'll have to dig into my relics and find my Austin City Limits tickets to figure out what year that was. I have them framed somewhere.... I'm guessing 2011-2013.
I agree with all of that. I hate taxes, but I also wonder how they'll be replaced. WA can't even balance its budget as it is with the largest tax hike in our states history. I have for many years now pondered whether there should be a renters tax that is separate from the landlord and the rent to make renters more aware of what they are voting for when they vote for every tax increase. WA now has rent control and it's creating a miserable situation. since my wife is in property management they now have to account hours of extra labor basically into every house they manage just to send out multiple notices to renters of impending rental increases. they also have to send the fliers to Jane and John Doe incase the renters illegally have other tenants there who aren't even on the contract! Its causing all the landlords to by default, increase the rent at the earliest possible opportunity every single year because they know they can only go up X%. so all those rental units that wouldn't have seen a rent increase now see them. once again... extra government intervention costs everyone more money.I find it so annoying that renters don't have to pay property taxes, but they get to benefit off of my phucking tax dollars!!! That just sucks, it is crazy how they can hold other people's property hostage. I can see people moving away from these states faster and faster, it is just unfortunate they are coming to Texas and Florida at a ridiculous rate. They better be ready to assimilate!!!I agree with all of that. I hate taxes, but I also wonder how they'll be replaced. That’s exactly what they looks like is poison oak/ivy. Calamine lotion or a diluted mix of water and Clorox will take care of it.Got poison ivy or something similar somehow on both arms and forearmsView attachment 254449
Took this in the morning, seems to have got worse so I'm gonna slather it with medicine and wrap them up for work.
This morning workout. First fully planned workout in a while, everything was far from failure except the strict OHP- and DB krushers. The goal was a pump and to not go ham on heavy stuff.
View attachment 254450
Tuesday night I did a few deadlifts up to 405X3
Box squats 375x3
Hack squats 100x20,20 and I couldn't really do anything else. Will hit a few sets of traditional squats and leg presses tonight where I can fit them in.
Will have a full outline for next week.
The question is, do I start a new thread? I've got an actual goal now lol.
Yeah it would be a good idea to start a new thread, probably in the workout logs section rather than the anabolic one, I didn’t even know this log existed for a while since I’m never in the anabolics sectionI'm gonna pick a few heavy exercises but I'm going to mostly stay in the 12-20 range to avoid injuries.
Squat pr will be the focus
Just grabbed Calamine lotion after I made that post. I feel like anytime we had any kind of rash from anything growing up we used calamineThat’s exactly what they looks like is poison oak/ivy. Calamine lotion or a diluted mix of water and Clorox will take care of it.

LOL to be fair its sorta a Fraser type setup with that view of Elliot Bay in one of the more prestigous buildings in the heart of downtown. I definitely see starter homes in Tacoma from $200-300k but I also do see studios selling for $400k in more upscale buildings. the one I sold a few years ago was only like 600sq ft but man it was a sick bachelor pad!Just a couple mil for 1900 sq ft
That's the biggest pro of the midwest is you can fine that for a tenth of the price.
To be honest bro, all the things you were taking on in addition to your family life and work, I can easily see how all that could burn you out. And it’s obvious your heart is in it, but some times you have to reel things in and reset and adjust your priorities so you’re not spreading yourself too thin. And I’m sure everyone will understand, especially since he’s a good friend too. And if you feel like it would be temporary, just let him know you just need a break for a little while.Looking for some of your opinions. Ive been thinking a lot about talking to the guys/coaches and the gym owner about me stepping away from the gym for a while. I would still go workout at a regular gym in the meantime but I'm overwhelmed lately with life. My schedule for painting is full through September, I've been doing my online work and working on my garden but I'm also in the boxing gym 3 nights and Saturday mornings training/coaching ppl and I'm burned out. I'm on the go 7am to 830pm 3 days a week and still have stuff to do when I get home. I'm thinking as a sign of that I'm not walking away from anything I will ask if I can still come in Saturday morning for the Parkinson's class and I'll do the junior boxers strength and conditioning still afterwards but Monday - Friday I would like to step away for a few weeks to 1. Take a mental health break from all these obligations. Nothing I do is stressful, but the amount of things and management of my time is becoming very stressful and I feel like I'm in that fight or flight mode several times a day lately.
I think spending a few weeks just lifting at a regular gym where no1 is stopping me to ask questions and I have no ties to the ppl there will be a nice break.
I've known the gym owner since I was 17, he's more like a family member then a boss or coach.
I'm not looking for anyone to agree with me just to agree, I'm looking for your honest opinion. We recently started this strength and conditioning program, it's not in full swing after summer ends and the groups are small and inconsistent at that point, we have other coaches that can fill in if necessary and this wasn't my idea in the first place, they kind of dropped it in my lap. I'm not complaining about that, ultimately it's what I wanted.
You think it's understandable that I need some time to myself in the evening just to relax and get caught up on my own life for a while. I'm only thinking 2-3 weeks and I'll probably be itching to get back in there anyways
I'm just feeling higher then usual stress
Best advice right here. Got to look after yourself because no one else will. You need to do what's right for you. If your feeling overwhelmed you NEED to step back. No shame in it. If you come back to it then great if not... that's fine too.
I wish that wasn't true but I know that it is.Best advice right here. Got to look after yourself because no one else will.
Yeah you sound like you’re on overload right now. When we get like that it’s hard to stop worrying about things. Then we start worrying about things we have no control over. Take a step back and get your breath back so to speak. It’s too easy to take on too many things at one time even if it’s things we enjoy. I know you enjoy the hell out of training these young fighters but they will be there when you get back and everything will be fine.I wish that wasn't true but I know that it is.
If I could learn how to stop caring and worrying so much it would eliminate a lot of my problems. I used to have decent days where occasionally I have a little anxiety attack and something's bothering me, but lately I just feel like I have anxiety all the time and then once in a blue moon it goes away and it's like, oh my God, I can breathe for a min or 2.
I don't know if you've ever seen any of those memes that say something like.....
Are you a man and having a hard time, don't worry, no1 cares
Or happy Father's Day, here's your card, just remember, no1 cares.
That's how life feels lately

Once they get a little bit developed (about 2 weeks) separate them or one will choke out the others roots.I had bought my wife a couple packs of seeds from that site you sent me, and 4 of her first 5 are already shooting fast. they went from barely breaking the dirt to +6" in like a day:

I missed this part earlier. my wife and I still wonder at times if her cancer was largely induced by stress. I've been back to the office for 1 day since taking a guys trip and I can feel the change in my health between a tighter chest this morning, mysteriously getting the $hits, overall poor mood and irritability. You think it's understandable that I need some time to myself in the evening just to relax and get caught up on my own life for a while. Very well put. Buddy said recently that if you're non-stop looking forward to a vacation you've got planned months out, that you aren't giving yourself enough me time. I said about 10 years ago that I'm not going to do anything that I don't want to do, granted, some things aren't the most enjoyable, but I find the positive of doing them. Keeps me on better terms with everyone and yourself through transparency and stress, because I feel if you need to explain yourself, you've already lost. The big takeaway is that so much more of our time is spent outside the gym than in it and there's no way I know to counter that, aside from sleeping in the gym lol. Should have subbed to this earlier. Good stuff here!I missed this part earlier. my wife and I still wonder at times if her cancer was largely induced by stress. you do blood work, you balance your substances, you do a million things for physical health but if you aren't keeping stress in check/balanced then you are missing low hanging fruit. I am a firm believer stress is probably the biggest toxin in our life over alcohol, cigarrettes, crappy processed foods. I've seen a lot of people live into their 90s with shitty food choices and smoking till death but I've seen work and life stress give people heart attacks in their 40s.
@Dustin07 sorry dude I forgot about that. That's rough, very stressful, for both of you, your whole family I imagine.
Thanks guys, I was trying to respond to everyone and I keep stumbling over my words. So I'll just say thanks.
I took the last few days off. My priorities are 1. Working my main job and taking care of the house and family best of my abilities, 2. Is progressing as a person mentally and physically and the gym is actually a big part of that. I'm going to do less training other ppl and get back to what I wanna do for a while. I'm still going to be actively training ppl people but I'm going to take a step backwards and do the minimum. I'm also going to stop agreeing to doing all these extra activities that everybody always asks of me and no more working on Sunday's, ever, unless it's a 100% necessity. No extra gym shifts and no more new clients.
I'm pumped to see where this goes for you!! I can't remember which zone/climate you are in but we are slowly trying to do this as well. over the next few weeks as my wife finishes harvesting the garden, we'll move plants to the chicken coop, move her garden boxes to a big area of the yard, then put up the greenhouse. I'm curious to see how warm we can keep it effeciently in the winter, if at all. Then I want to attempt growing out tilapia. Her friend wants to butcher chickens and I have the space to raise them so we may attempt a small flock of like 40 meat birds in the spring as a 10 week growout phase, then she'll help me process them. if the tilapia go well, they are about a 6-7 month growout phase and by summer time I could be harvesting tilapia fresh from our own pond for dinner once a week.I'm definitely stressed out but sitting around doing nothing isn't helping much. Today I'm putting up a greenhouse to shelter my plants when it rains. Found some solar fans I'm gonna get 3-4 to put inside.
I often have to remind myself that I'm grateful to have a job, the right mental space is everything!I said about 10 years ago that I'm not going to do anything that I don't want to do, granted, some things aren't the most enjoyable, but I find the positive of doing them. I'm happy with Weekends like you had. I blew off 2 parties, didn't have the mental energy for it. Stayed home and cooked on the grill.Dude you know whats crazy is this weekend we had no holiday parties, no big family/friend bbq's. my wife and just homesteaded all weekend. chickens, garden, picked blackberries and apples so she could make a pie, cooked meat on the grill and hung out. At the end of it I couldn't decide if there was something wrong with me that I didn't want to socialize with 50 people all weekend and I was so happy to just be working with my hands and hanging with the wife the whole time lol. I do love my friends dearly but sometimes even all their parties and gatherings are too taxing on my time. I get more satisifaction from working on the house with my wife and balancing time, waking up with the sun and going to be early. feels a little like I'm missing out on something I'm supposed to be doing yet also feels healthier.

this is literally exactly the same setup I was contemplating for my wife's greenhouse, on blocks, etc. I was thinking about trying to get a small tank in there for fingerlings (either tilapia or rainbow trout) for the first couple coldest months of the year then move them outside the greenhouse for the next 5-6 months to grow out until late summer for harvest. that's all still in my brain/design phase. I haven't even built the greenhouse yet lol. But my goal if all goes well is to literally move who entire garden about 30ft to the side, then plop down the greenhouse where her current garden is. I'm thinking during the early part of the year, the end of winter, I might be able to create some positive air temperature combinging a fish tank in the greenhouse with the small heater like you mentioned but it's going to be a live and learn experiement.November and if needed il run a extension cord and put a space heater on top of a bed of cinder blocks. It's not some fancy set up but I'm basically just trying to help control the environment better then nature would allow that time of year
Is it okay to think plans are okay to include "Nothing" on the to do list, and then reply to everyone when they ask what I'm doing say "Nothing"? Asking for a friend. Now a days I actually prefer weekends like this over get togethers. That's a sign i'm getting old![]()
Just remember, you don't want to put straight cow poop into your garden. You want to compost it first to kill e.coli and break down all the bacteria and ammonia.this is literally exactly the same setup I was contemplating for my wife's greenhouse, on blocks, etc. I was thinking about trying to get a small tank in there for fingerlings (either tilapia or rainbow trout) for the first couple coldest months of the year then move them outside the greenhouse for the next 5-6 months to grow out until late summer for harvest. that's all still in my brain/design phase. we also need to fertilize better. I'm seriously thinking about bringing home 5 gallon buckets of cow manure from my parents house for her garden because the store bought fertilizers are a complete joke. My buddy spread a couple 5 gallon buckets of my folks cow manure on his little garden this year and after a few months of the garden doing NOTHING, it exploded in 2 weeks.
I agree with everything you said but this oneI got the heat on and it's still 70 degrees outside and I like toast for breakfast
Same here, but I remember my grandmothers house always being like 70+ and my mother-in-law, holy ****. It could be 70° in the evening in July and she will turn the heat on. She's also 100-110lbs and her heart is made out of solid ice frozen from her endless box of wineI agree with everything you said but this one
I gotta have it cool inside especially when I go to sleep or otherwise i'm sweating like a pig.
Just remember, you don't want to put straight cow poop into your garden. You want to compost it first to kill e.coli and break down all the bacteria and ammonia.
As far as your green house ideas, and the fish, I like how you think! I want to eventually build a real solid framed 4 season greenhouse and I was thinking that a large inside fishtank would be a great idea, I don't know if I would do fish for food because I don't eat a lot of fish but I thought about doing some fish and maybe turtles or something like that. The waste water is free fertilizer, the tank of water itself is a big heat sink that can help keep the building warm at night, especially if it's heated tank. I think it would be cool to have solar up top and a wood stove inside so too and have multiple free or almost free ways to heat it December to March
I think you construction skills are a lot higher than mine. I did build our chicken coop and I thought it turned out well but short term we are thinking of a simple greenhouse probably from amazon with polycarbonate because they're damn cheap and I keep researching that the polycarbonate is a better insulator than glass. I've learned quite a bit about grow lights from the reef keeping, and kept a grow light in my chicken coop for fall/spring to force egg production a bit which worked. grow lights can be super cheap (or super expensive) and I'd love to see if I could get those on solar. I've read a shitload on solar, but I've never actually deployed it myself so it will be a learning curve. I would think that connecticut winters get as cold as ours, but we get strong wind so I have some concerns that an 8x12 or 10 x 12 cheap greenhouse could get destroyed during the windy season if it's not heavy enough....time will tell....I want to eventually build a real solid framed 4 season greenhouse
