Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

Looking really good in here, it's great to see you bouncing back (AGAIN). do you have your eyes set on any specific goals/meets/etc right now? I know for a while it was a good opportunity to cut weight a bit while rehabbing but now that things are looking so good, are you struggling to keep from redlining and risking reinjury too soon, or do you feel like you're approaching the green flag?

No I really don’t; I would like to compete but I’m not strong enough yet to even warrant prepping. So there’s no “push” right now; just doing the work to steadily raise my base back up.

I believe I’m strong enough to total 1,350 (500/350/500) right now if I just pulled a deadlift and didn’t get hurt. So I need to really spend some time building up my squat and pull a great deal yet before I set sights on anything.

Woke up ready to go for this one; I could feel I was going to exceed last micro. Lifted 10lbs more on max effort bench as well as Spotos, with more volume on that too. 325 also wasn’t nearly as hard as I expected; I definitely blew it up.
Good to see you hit that 325 bench, and that it didn’t feel too bad. That’s a great feeling when coming back from injury or a layoff and you think a lift is going to be challenging but it ends up being fairly easy. It always fires you up for the next session.💪

Nice to see you are making steady progress, stay the course and before you know it you will be eyeing another meet.

Went to lift with the wife this morning. Everything was feeling incredibly good today; just feeling on point all around, so I took the opportunity to work up a little before my work.

500 was fast & easy, but I felt something tearing in my left knee on the way up. I knew my quad was still attached because I finished the squat, so I walked it in, which felt fine. Hurts most on the upper outside, but also some under the patella, and I can’t really bend the knee but can limp on it fine with my leg locked out. So that killed the rest of the session, and the positive momentum I was building. I’m disappointed obviously, but it’s not exactly something I could have expected & at least my quad is attached. If I hadn’t taken those reps, I would have still likely torn whatever on the 9 sets/ 55 work reps to come. Or next week, etc - so it is what it is.

Hopefully it resolves on its own in the coming weeks; I’ve had something a bit similar to this happen about 2 years ago on some sumo blockpulls that resolved on its own in time. At least my back feels good 🫠

Nurse that leg homie! Hopefully just a wee niggle a nigh more. But hey, glad the back is back.
On the positive side, this injury virtually guarantees my back will be getting rested from lower body lifting in coming weeks.

Starting up 250mcg BPC157 and 2iu HGH nightly this evening.

Man that sucks…..hopefully not too serious. Maybe just something strained or pulled. Hopefully not any ligaments. But it is a good sign you were able to squat 500 and the back was fine.👍

Slept like the dead for 10 hours, especially after 2iu right before bedtime.

I was able to bend my knee with my hamstring a few degrees after I woke up - not much, but it’s progress. I also managed not to take any NSAIDs yesterday, just lots of oral & TD Curcumin to get through. Wrapped it very lightly when I had to be on it at times.

I wish I slept like that. I got 6.5-7 hours last night and it feels like ten cus I only woke up 2 times instead of 6 lol

Lol well I had gotten up at 2:45am yesterday after only 4 hours of sleep so I could go pick up my wife’s coach & make it to the gym she does strongman at half an hour away. And my wife got up ahead of my son this morning to make sure I could sleep as long as possible to heal.

BUT a big meal, GH & a CPAP do go a long way to going deep into dreamland.

I also wish I had the family dynamic that you guys seem to have. Your wife trains hard and understands how **** works, makes sure you get enough rest and recovery.... mine would wake me up at 7am knowing I've only slept 4hrs to do something she is too lazy to do and she sleeps 8-9hrs like the dead herself. Theres literally Zero support from her. I'm sorry I'm not trying to complain as much as I'm trying to say you have a good thing going, many dont have that💪

Oof, never good to come in here and hear about injuries! Again hoping it's nothing serious. Give it the weekend for sure, but maybe you think about getting it imaged? Particularly if it's something that's torn before...

Yeah it’s very good for both of us, finding someone in the lifestyle that understands the give & take. She’s my ride or die 😌

Thank you sir. My plan is see how it goes in coming weeks; if there isn’t good progress I will definitely see an ortho for some imaging & diagnoses. But my impression is most things won’t require or benefit from surgery unless there’s total tearing of a ligament, nor can you get good imaging until the inflammation has cleared out, so it’s not something I would do this week.

He’s teaching me his bracing/activation stuff the first 10 minutes, then it was on to chest & tris 💪

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!! I watched this earlier on the tube and didn’t know it was you. Good stuff Brother!!! You FAMOUS!!!

Long time I've been in here but had the itch to jump back on. That's pretty damn awesome and a once in a lifetime opportunity to train st EFTS and to train along side someone with that level of experience. It can and will only make you better.

WTF dude! this is why we can't have nice things!

I'm really liking your nonchalant approach to this. You do know your body and you typically know (gut instinct) when it's time to pull in the big guns and when you can self cure. but damn dude, I'm still sorry to hear about the rain delay! hows the pain level?

Well, what can you expect - live by the sword, you die by the sword, as they say. But man, when I was taking that squat, I can tell you I was living! Had them put a song on for me, totally locked in on the task at hand, adrenaline dumping, and when I was getting under that bar I thought to myself, ‘Now we’re powerlifting!’. I was doing exactly what I truly wanted, every fiber of me. Except my knee 🤣

The pain has been really good.

All I had to take was about 1,200mg of oral curcumin day of injury as well as 200mg transdermal, all over 2 divided doses. And it did still hurt like a sonofabitch; getting in and out of the car was bad & I had to have my wife drive so I could keep the seat all the way back to ride. But I was able to ride yesterday without much pain, and today drove my son to school myself with barely any. I was able to limp all over the orchard no problem yesterday, and barely limping today - or I’m just getting faster at it at least 😅

The nightly BPC & GH I am sure are helping, and I swapped my 30mg Testosterone yesterday for 60mg Deca - might do that once more today. Doublinng my collagen intake as well.

Also, I have the video opened in another screen and I'm going to come back to it as much as possible but that is DOPE! it's one of those I might also have to play podcast style as I'm driving to retain more of the information and listen in. You're looking great though. pretty wild to think about how much you have manipulated your weight up and down over the years to land on that athletic powerlifter physique. You look like you belong there!

watching you throw the light weight opening weights around, the TUT etc reminded me of how fuckin' sweaty we got with just PVC practice during my first L1 cert 🤣

Deload session today, trying out a couple extremely difficult movements for my elbow (OHP & CG), so things today was more of a rehab/preparatory session. Not sure I’m going to be able to do CG without a 2-board, but we’ll see what kind of load we can manage next week actually going for it.

Knee is progressing well, better than I’d hoped. I couldn’t take an effective walk this morning, but I can “walk” almost normally and put my shoe on with some pain. I am already able to mindfully sit down and stand up from a chair, babying the left side.

Just finished that vid. Fuggin sick brother! Super stoked for you and watching that private session was quite rewarding with knowledge! Still looking thick and vascular to boot, keep grinding bro

Glad the knee is feeling better…..you nailed my exact thinking with your healing regimen.
Oral Curcumin followed by transdermal, BPC 157, and HGH if you have it, as well as TB 500 if on hand. There’s actually a lot of knowledge that floats around in these logs, that a lot of the younger guys could learn from these nuggets just by reading.👍

I do have one vial of TB500, but I am saving it for when the 20 days of BPC has run out. I have enough GH for 30 days, so I can stretch that TB over that last week or so.

I did 60mg of Deca the last 2 days & just a tab of Pregnenolone this morning, and will resume my daily 30mg test e tomorrow. So this week is going to be 150 test & 120 deca. Depending on how I’m feeling I might go 150/60 next week - GH & Deca both crank up my prolactin, so we will see how the extra vitamin E and P5P manages it.

The fact that you are noticing progress seems like a good sign to me. much better than "the same" or of course, worse. 🤞

Forgot my BPC/GH last night and woke up with my stiff knee aching like a bitch, so took it this morning and will have my regular dose tonight as well. Glad I was able to walk today without issue, and I did pretty good on all the bracing stuff since commercial gym has cushy mats to kneel on.

Enjoyed the session tonight, but I need a replacement for Pullthrus because I’m maxing the stack out on a very easy deload. Might see if I can straddle the seated cable row bench for these next time.

Have you thought about looking into a gym pin since you're maxing out the cable stack?

Honestly it’s radically light. I could have did 20+ reps with that 100lbs, so in this case I just need a better movement for an RPE9 2x8 that will be coming next week. Reverse Hypers is the suggested alternative in this slot, so I can always commit to doing them in the garage as soon as I get home from the commercial gym.

dude that's great that the knee seems to be improving with mobility. I wonder what the heck it was that happened. 🤞

Something absolutely tore partially. You hear and feel it as it happens. I hope you don’t experience this ever, but tears leave no doubt. Before everything is fine, as soon as it happens there is dysfunction & escalating pain.

I think the mobility seems directly tied to fluid retention. Like before the gym I used TD Curcumin on it & had been resting it mainly, so I was able to walk in normally and take a slower walk properly. At home before bed my knee was stiff as a board & I was limping again, having done all the exercise.

ACL and rotator cuff (2x). I've been knocking on a wood a lot lately.

Saw my ART guy; he ran through a battery of tests and concluded the same: something tore a little, but nothing is fully detached. Essentially nothing he did to it testing ligaments hurt. He also was able to rule out any major bursitis under the patella, so if a bursa sheared off it would be minor. But he said it’s definitely outer knee damage, not inner.

Swelling is rather low compared to how any of the ligaments would be if gone (except meniscus, as that swells between days 6-8 more commonly). So I’m not out of the woods yet on that potential yet, but as it’s a partial strain there would be no surgery regardless - the rehab path is the same in all cases for me at this point.

He wants me on the cycle at least once, ideally twice a day, and gave me a VMO activation drill I’m to be doing twice daily as well. He wants deep bodyweight Hatfield squats on warmup and cooldowns from training as well to maintain ATG ROM.

Deadlifts shouldn’t be a problem, much safer than loaded squatting, but if I am getting a lot of swelling I need to back down the volume/load, so proceed with caution there. I’ll see him again in 2 weeks.

I love that your dude has enough knowledge in the field to differentiate a hatfield, or the impact of a deadlift vs squat etc. it sounds like the consensus then is a cautious optimism while you do that thing you're quite well rehearsed at doing? (rebuild)

My mom was asking last night why we do these dangerous things (when I showed her my buddy hitting 500lbs). and I realized that when you are moving loads like you do (@Hyde specifically in our group here) you really make PL an extreme sport. it's a rush to watch you build.

Pretty much; do the work steadily and get stronger (the usual edict).

I think what makes powerlifting extreme is that the true nature of it is to attempt to handle limit weights that represent significant personal challenge. No matter how heavy it is, if it’s just easy for someone it’s not very exciting (for them or anyone watching). What gives the act value is that dues had to be paid & risks taken.

What a ride from hating to see you got injured again to happy to be seeing you recovering well again also. I was only gone for a little bit. Things happen fast! Good to see you are on the mend, hopefully nothing more than a blip on the radar.

Glad to see your ART guy thinks it is minor as well. Man I hate to see you going through another injury, because you had just got to where you were able to get back going good after the last injury. I know one thing, with what you’ve had to battle through this year really shows your resolve, dedication, and determination to be able to overcome all the injuries and not let it stop you. You’re like a river my friend, something might block your path, but you will find a way to get around it or through it to keep the current moving.💪👍

Up to 3mph incline walk, knee still on the upswing. After the two rounds of the drill my ART guy gave & his prescription of cycling yesterday, knee was least painful/swollen it’s been waking up today - and I used NO Curcumin on it yesterday to see how it would respond to the bike work (which hurts). So I’m on the right track with it all it seems.

Nice easy deload; moving to the pec deck for this next meso since I will be at commercial gym anyway. Assuming the stack will be heavy enough.

Old guy I know at the commercial gym told me yesterday that I need to “stop lifting heavy” now that I have a son 😂 He means well, but boy I did a poor job containing my grin at that!

But you know what my son told us the other day? ‘Dad, I can’t wait until I get older & can lift weights at the gym too. I wanna do competitions! Will you take me with you to the gym, Dad??’
