Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

Day 4 of Z pack. Absolutely seeing progress, hacking up very little now.

I am getting some heartburn now, which was previously resolved, and had some extra movements yesterday so gut biome is definitely getting ripped apart, but this is what it takes (and why I didn’t do it during the run to 405).

Are you doing any probiotics with your antibiotics?

Some Greek yogurt once or twice daily, which is both pre- and probiotic. It absolutely helps.
I am not a fan of the toll antibiotics takes on your gut. I had an upper respiratory infection 8 yrs ago, went into Urgent Care as it was 1/8mile from my house. I got prescribed the highest dose of antibiotics I had ever taken. I had to go on the BRAT diet. I had no idea but work I.D. pictures were taken the day I came back from being out. I had the sunken in “diet face” and had shaved my beard off. I looked terminally ill. The pic ended up on my employee profile for over 5 yrs. Too funny. Looked like a short, Polish, Skelator!

10 or so years ago I supposedly had noro so bad that if I burped and left the room I could come back in 10 minutes and it still smelled like a sewer line exploded in there. after a week+ of that nonsense I started throwing in greek yogurt and almost immediately saw positive results.

I don't know what that is but it sounds horrendous. I hate there being any chance I am the stinky guy anywhere. Although at 300g of protein if I have gas it might bite. :)

Today kicked my ass, but I have to get back in shape to handle more lower body work and the time is now. Just had to suck it up & commit to doing the work.

First work set on sumo was garbage. Just legpressing it into a back extension like a conventional pull because it was light enough to get away with. So I turned my feet out slightly & pushed my knees out harder to wedge in better for the following sets - this let me focus on bringing my hips to the bar instead of pulling back. Final sets felt like I had really improved things - hoping if I strengthen my hip drive it will improve my conventional as well.

A Fukking HUGE dude for sure!

The sickness has been going around everywhere, if I dont get sick it will be a miracle.
Wife is on week 3 with RSV virus, my oldest now has it (on day 3) and her fiance who lives w/ us was sick for 2 weeks prior.
Just me and my youngest haven't gotten anything yet, and Im a bit surprised...

They absolutely should be used sparingly, because they destroy everything & then you need to regrow the garden from ground zero. I haven’t needed them for a bacterial infection in some years, but I had a course 2.5 years ago when I got snipped, then again December of ‘22 when my elbow was ‘scoped. Every time they cut on you it’s going to mean using them.

I put off taking any for 10-11 weeks, but I think I got COVID or some similar virus flying back from California in October and then got a bacterial infection in my bronchial tubes or lungs after that, and it just wouldn’t kick. My voice has gotten really destroyed; I have barely been able to read to my son at night & definitely haven’t been able to sing to him.

That was kind of my line in the sand, not being able to speak properly in meetings & having to miss things with my son for weeks on end.

Previous best on the lowbox SSB squat in deadlift stance was something like 445-465 well over a year ago, so this was a 75-95lb PR. My best free SSB Squat is 565 done last summer, and I think I could have matched that on this tougher variant tonight.

Didn’t get any more done than last week because I ended up talking way too much with some of the other lifters, but it was a great time & I definitely felt in better shape to handle more. I did progress weight on accessories at least.

Look at you doing what beasts do! Keep getting after it!

Starting 2024 out right….already hit a second PR, and that’s some deep box squats.

14” box gets me to quality competition depth, so 2” deeper and very close stance makes it a long trip!

It looks so dissimilar to a deadlift on paper, but when you get about halfway up the SSB is trying to push you forward so it’s really very much like the top half of a conventional deadlift, where you are trying to drive your neck back and hips through to completion.

Those numbers are nuts man. I need to work front squat back into my rotation.

I really hate doing fronts; they are easy for me to bother my knee or aggravate my discs, and they are generally just a “hard” movement. But I think they have a huge ROI for strength, the way they build the quads and strengthen the abs & upper back. Doing them paused helps it be easier on my knee and more intentional with flexing my legs on the ascent.

They just work.

Final day of Trest - took 55mg to finish the last vial from Rocket for a heavy bench day. Seemed very fitting. I was definitely extra warm at this dose and felt strong today. Got 4 plates onto the light axle I was doing bottoms-up benching with, & no wrist wraps either since I had the pins to protect me from a drop. Forearms & elbows are feeling pretty worked.

My son turns 3 today, so looking forward to a fun weekend with family! Back to cruise tomorrow.

Great session, and Happy Birthday to Lil Man!!! How is he doing in his gymnastics? Anymore new accomplishments?

Great session, and Happy Birthday to Lil Man!!! How is he doing in his gymnastics? Anymore new accomplishments?

Thanks guys! He has just generally been getting bigger, stronger, faster. Things that were tough before are now easy - you see things like his grip & foot strength going up, balance improving, better coordination.

This week coming up may be my last/one of my last sessions down on the floor with him, which is pretty sad for me. It went by so fast. Once they’re 3, they like to take them out of the parent-assisted class & move them into purely instructor-led group training. Hopefully he will still enjoy that if so - they say removing the parents usually actually makes them begin to perform much better, since they are more inclined to listen to someone else vs seeing it as a playtime.

Nice strong lifts. Nice to see you able to incorporate ohp again.
Give the lil guy a big hug! Hope he had a great birthday.

Thank you; he really did. I brought mini cupcakes in for his preschool class on my lunch break to have with their lunch & all the kids went berserk. He was so excited with everyone cheering his name; I think it made him feel really special.

He is getting a big family party tomorrow, but we also took him to Chuck E Cheese last night. He thinks that place is just the best. He loves to throw the Skee balls overhand, so they crash into the ramp violently, then barely roll up into the bottom slot with no points

That’s awesome man! I miss that age. The sun rises and sets on you form their perspective. You seem like an awesome Dad and that is the BEST PR of all!!! Keep Killin it in the gym or at home w your family!!!

68* below freezing this morning (we live in an extremely windy place), so not terribly surprised car wouldn’t start. Trunk was also frozen shut, but thankfully my sleeves were in the house & there’s a spare big boy prong belt at the barbell club. Took the wife’s car (garaged) and made it happen. Had to squat and pull in just socks though.

Bottom right rib started to pop out on my 3rd beltless squat set; took a 4th set and it took my breath away after the first rep, so that belt at the gym really saved squats. Being able to get tighter kept everything in the socket, and it’s only like a 2-3 soreness now.

Hell yeah nice work! She is a cold mother out there. I listened to quite a few people in are complex try to start there cars this morning. I don’t think anyone had success. I’ll plug mine in tonight has block heater and pan heaters for oil and transmission, see if she make life tomorrow.

The freeze is supposed to hit here tonight, only 22 degrees, but our power grid and insulation isn't up to maintaining in 22 degrees so it won't be fun here either. Got a couple plugs of firewood at the store this morning just to be sure we could at least start a fire in the fireplace if needed. Hope you all do well in this weather and don't lose any power or anything else negative.

Gotcha, I’m in Mid-Michigan and we haven’t seen temps/windchills like that in a while.

Yeah it’s been an uncharacteristically mild winter so far here, but this week Mother Nature decided to remind us all that we still live in one of the worst states in the country. Often 100+ & humid in the pitch of summer, subzero many nights in winter with snow & ice that stays frozen for months, and taxes and government idiocracy that would probably impress a Californian.

My stepdaughter’s battery is totally dead/unrevivable, and my car still won’t start with a jump due to the corrosion on the positive lead/terminal, so I have a couple fun things to tackle now in the cold.

My day was spent working on my wife's car battery lol... I feel the pain. But its only 34F here, I worked in a t-shirt in the sun.

Lol yeah NC is one of the states we’ve discussed moving to if we ever go to the coast. Probably Florida, but maybe SC or NC. We’ve been a couple times for the wife’s comps, to Greenville & Raleigh, and both areas were pretty. So I would hope the coast might have some beach cities worth exploring, but we haven’t gone out there yet.

If in a pinch and u have a cordless drill like a dewalt the battery pack can jump your car provided you have wires to go from pos and neg on batt pack to car batt respectively.

Now that’s a trick I’ve never heard of! She didn’t start her car yesterday, so between it being a cheap battery over 3 years old & not starting it at all yesterday that’s all it took to kill it. Won’t take a charge.

My positive cable/terminal is all corroded to hell, and I made plans with my mechanic to have him cut/re-terminate the end this coming oil change in 400 miles. But this cold snap had other plans for me! After 30 min jump from my wife it ALMOST started, but just can’t quite pull enough cranking amps with all the corrosion between terminal/cable. I am hoping if I can get it cleaned enough the battery will suffice.

my aunt and uncle recently moved out there (escaping Cali) and my childhood best friend is still there, has been for like 20 years (Army). I know he used to really enjoy Myrtle Beach, I think that's actually where he met his wife.

pretty sure my wife and I will still be looking at MX for long term personally. My folks got a place outside of Phoenix, it's nice and I like it a lot, but it still drops to 40F and colder in the winter.

These crazy Lithuanian roofers showed me that trick in my early 20’s lol. Quality ****!
25% Lithuanian and 25% Polish
Last name is spelt w a “ski” but was originally “skaus” and is Lithuanian. When my great Grandfather enrolled in local school system the spelling changed because “Lithuania and Poland are near each other on the map” and the “ski” would denote that his father was a “polish” farmer and that he was from the east side of town(blue-collar) called “The Valley”. This side of town called a potato a “buhdadoe”.
Not quite as blunt as Tony aka “To N.Y.” but similar. Lol

crazy times

Yeah Texas just doesn’t have the infrastructure for the rare rain or snow they get. When it rains, the roads shut down because they don’t have drainage - it’s cheaper to just shut down for the few big rains they ever get. And with the heat, the houses aren’t built for any cold or insulated. Guarantee we’re doing a lot better in the negatives in IL than Texas in the 20s lol.

Myrtle Beach last summer was very pretty, but I am pretty sure the giant cockroaches we experienced killed it for my wife as far as moving to that area of the coast. Out of sight out of mind, but once it’s in sight…lol. They are a big thing in the top half of Florida too apparently, but we’ve never seen any on our travels in FL before.

Yeah, but it makes sense why they have to. It doesn’t snow often enough for any of the cities/counties to keep fleets of salt trucks or snow plows, so when it snows it’s too dangerous for the highways to stay open since they’ll ice over and there isn’t the infrastructure in place to stop that from happening.

And it doesn’t make sense to change that because it still only ices over once or twice a year, and the cost of maintaining the fleet of trucks to handle highways those few times way outweighs the economic cost of just shutting everything down until it defrosts.

Well, we aren't built for ice or snow management. No one here has appropriate tires for driving in the snow or ice. In a place that doesn't get cold a lot of people here run summer tires year round including myself. A summer tire even on a dry and cold day is already slick. Add any precipitation at all and you are looking at a very dangerous situation with 30% of the drivers on summer tires and 95-98% with no experience driving in ice or snow. Plus they typically don't even have salt for the roads unless we know a big winter storm is coming way ahead.

THIS^^^ Keep in mind also, that here 45 miles from the coast we are still only at 26f above see level. So drainage slows and we have no elevation to help with run off in a lot of the areas. Plus we get all of the run-off from every state above us to contend with as well when there have been heavy rains. We definitely make up for those things with no state taxes, and one of the best economies, and costs of living in the country. On top of that our ground is interesting and we get sinkholes under some intersections due to all the additional water so they will start to sit lower and fill with water. Bottom line as you said, we can't drain off all the rain when the rest of the country above us has already been hit, and all of their drainage is making its way through our rivers and bayous. Add to that if we get 3 inches in an hour, or several inches throughout the day which happens here on the Gulf coast easily during a storm.

Agreed, and you may not want to bring her to Texas if she doesn't like the wood roaches. That is all they are, not cockroaches. When they get inside it is kind of an accident, they don't breed or nest in the home but are predominantly outside critters. So it's not like you have to worry about an infestation of them like cockroaches, and they do not carry the crap the cockroaches carry. However they are ugly and people who have never seen them freak out and think they are nasty like regular cockroaches. My MIL kind of freaks out every time she comes down because inevitably one will get in the house and she will be like oh my god, a giant roach. You all need an exterminator. The we have to explain, they just crawled or flew in, somehow and will crawl right back out. They aren't going to move in and start a family. Finally by the time she is leaving she doesn't care, but forgets before she comes back the next year to visit. LMAO!

That’s what Myrtle Beach had, wood roaches. They call them Palmetto bugs in SC, and they are the local variety of the Florida wood roach - I suspect they are just like yours. The girls left the patio door open to our condo when they went outside, and a couple got in. One came in on my wife’s shoulder, unbeknownst to her.

The fact they can fly was an absolute killer; never saw them jump so fast!!! 🤣
