Low ferritin on TRT?

Anyone else suffering this issue on TRT? I've read it's very common.

I recently done bloods as I've just felt like trash. I'm very fit but being suffering fatigue and shortness of breath.

I thought. Time to do some bloods. I've spent £500 ($750 dollars) in the last 2 months on bloods. As I've got older my body has just being an ar*e with my TRT! Years ago I could pin 500mgs test and feel awesome and keep estrogen etc all in balance. I'm 37 now and my body just seems to aromatise like crazy now. I'm on 120mg test e (2 X 60mg a week). If I take aromasin now I feel terrible. Same with arimidex etc.

Anyway...

I've always donated bloods. I started it years ago and have continued since. Always felt I was doing a good deed. I always felt good after a donation also.

My ferritin levels are at 24 (range 30 - 400). I feel pretty trash tbh. I won't donate any more bloods until I fix this. I never had a clue that I was just crashing my ferritin. The blood donations always say to me. You have great iron levels. I always just thought that was the case...... Not

I went out and bought all iron rich foods. I've also picked up some Iron Bisglycinate and vitamin C and Lysine. I've heard this combo can work.

Anyone else had this issue on TRT and managed to fix it? Their is a protocol online to quickly fix this but I've not tried it.

Just seeing if anyone can give some advice?

Thanks

You just need to supplement with iron. Adding copper will increase iron transport and adding VC increases iron absorption. Vitamin D is also important for iron absorption and being on gear lowers D3 levels so maybe trt also lowers vd3?

When yiur on testosterone you have a higher number of red blood cells and those pull iron out into the rbc to complete whatever there process is. Donating blood also drops ferritin levels so it's probably even lower then the bloods show.

Hey

Thanks for the info

I've just started supplementing the iron yesyerday. I'm not sure what dose to take? Ive took a little above the recommended dose? I've also added in vitamin C + Lysine. I will add in copper also and vitamin D.

I know it can be a grueling process getting it to climb. Seems a common issue on TRT?

I hope that I feel better within the next week or 2.

Have you had issues like this?

I've had issues when younger but not trt related, I was borderline anemic growing up. Sometimes I couldn't donate at the school blood drive because my iron was too low and until I was probably 25 my doc had me take a low dose iron pill, a multi v and extra vitamin c. I remember getting a shot from the doc twice in high-school for this too but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. When I give blood it dips but it comes back in like a week or 2.

I've heard of IV iron infusion to raise ferritin in anemic ppl, idk if that's a option with your doc.

What did the doc say about the low ferritin?

i mean methycobalamin needs to come up in this thread. alot of people are low in it, and if it's b12 anemia, all the iron in the world wont help until you take it. b12 deficiency is common in people of european descent due to issues with intrinsic factor, which assists with b12 absorption. a sublingual methylcobalamin held under the tongue for at least 90 seconds is like an injection and bypasses the need for instrinsic factor. b12 shots help too, just make sure its a coenzymated form of b12 if the shot is warranted. b12 is responsible for the multiplication of rbc's. mind you, methylcobalamin supplement doses can range from 100mgs to 10,000mcgs. some people need methylfolate at large amounts due to a genetic issue for blood; youve made it this far without it, so that one is unlikely but it is a component of blood building.

I'm not sure what country you live in but in America only about 5% of the population has a b12 deficiency. So I wouldn't think that's the case here, but I still wouldn't overlook it either

yeah no my thought about deficiency is you have "within range" and then "within optimal range." my dhea is considered normal because it's like a 4 on a 30 point range scale. then you have something like spectracell which has come out with alot of data challenging the idea that deficiencies dont exist in Western Civilization. a few guys in my gym were talking about how b12 changed their lives a month ago and these guys werent vegetarians or anything, but my common sense tells me that you walk into a vitamin shoppe and see 12 brands of b12 taking up shelf space, you can infer there's a need.

i knew a guy on trt who had to limit his vitamin c content because that was the nail in the coffin when combined with TRT to raise his rbc count dangerously high. while that problem is limited to some people on trt, i cant tell you how many beet red guys on trt walking around my gym nowadays so these guys are definately building blood and using lots of nutrients to do it.

I did check my vitamin b12 levels and also my vitamin D levels and both were high end of the range. I do supplement both.

I'm sure it's the blood donations have just crashed my ferritin levels. My partner also checked Theirs and was crashed also The health service in the UK don't explain this to you. Just test blood iron levels which can fluctuate with a simple iron pill.

I've added in Iron Bisglycinate + Vitamin C to see how this impacts my levels. Also added in dessicated liver also.

Be nice to feel good for a change. My body has been bouncing all over the place.

My Ferritin levels crash after a donation too and takes awhile before I start feeling normal. 13 was my last result last year. I didn't really want to start donating every few months but I guess it's that or stop TRT. I'm just going to have to take the good with the bad. Especially since I'm on a little blast right now. Got a donation set up in a few weeks then labs a few weeks after. No doubt it'll be back in the teens.

i had no idea people on trt go through this. how long do you feel down after a donation? also, just curios if pumps are negatively affected by the donation

A few weeks. Not sure if my Ferritin is increasing or I'm just adapting to it. But I have a donation coming up then a Ferritin level check a few weeks later so I'll see if I'm back in the normal range after a few weeks. It's weird. I used to get crazy pumps when I was younger. But I honestly haven't gotten much pumps whether I donate or not. In fact I rarely get sore but train with just as much intensity. This aging thing is confusing.

Interesting. Im trying to figure out the pump issue. I see alot of guys on trt that are old and have massive pumps and theyre beet red, so one theory i had was maybe i didnt have the same amount of blood these days. Your testimony may indicate there is some other factor at play

Yeah. I'm not certain as to why I don't get the pump like I used to. Atherosclerosis perhaps.

You feel actually good after the donation itself. After a few days and your body then begins to build new red blood cells and takes it from the ferritin for this. I seen online that ferritin can drop by 50% after a single donation. I was obviously low and the donation has seriously crashed me.

Theirs a protocol for trt users to restore ferritin in 5 days. Might be worth a shot. It's the amount of iron needed and my digestive system!

I've done this to myself a few times with ferritin getting as low as 9. I would wake up gasping for air, heart rate flying while just watching TV, getting winded walking anywhere...etc. But, it was within a week I started feeling better taking iron bisglycinate 2 to 3 times per day with extra C every dose.

Lastly, blood donations dropped my ferritin 30 points every time...multiple labs confirming it. Since lowering my dose, I haven't had to donate in 2 years...but I'm still working my way back up to optimal dose.

What's the protocol?
