GABA Supplementation

I felt a few tingles and than went to sleep

I use gaba on and off for sleep using 2 to 3gms added to my sleep cocktail. Knocks me the fk out almost like a week ambien without the ambien side effects.

You may want to add some glutamine and a nitric oxide precursor and maybe even vitamin b6

Now there will inevitably be that guy who will tell you that GABA is unable to cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB), but the studies have been contradictory and my research and experience shows that for the benefits we are looking for, sleep and GH increase, it may not need too? or then again maybe it does infact cross the BBB.

So for sleep it's awesome. I had tried taking it pre-workout since that is what they did in that well known study showing a "480% increase in gh levels".

IMHO I have no idea if 480% is significant or a drop in the pan but its cheap, it can't hurt to try.

For me pre workout is no go.. it made me drag ass/tired all day long post workout which is something I've heard pro bodybuilders experience when they inject real GH so maybe it's working in that regard?

But back to gaba and sleep..Shortly after taking a few grams I get the tingles and short breath almost anxiety like and just about knocks me out/sleepy... for people like me it seems our blood-brain barrier is "leaky" enough to let GABA through.

I'm not saying leaky brain is good but it's a real thing:

I might have this leaky brain also. What are you doing for it? Have you noticed improvement? This could explain my ridiculous reaction to foods and vitamins causing bizarre side effects.

I don't do anything. But from what I've read online it seems the same supps you'd take for post concussion therapy are mentioned when talking about leaky brain treatment. I had a concussion 2.5 months ago and taking tons of stuff so that's why I'm familiar with supplement and nutrition post concussion.

What are you taking for that?

When I took it, I took it right before bed about 2 hours after my last meal

How long do y'all wait after meals to take GABA?

I take it within an hour of bedtime - my diet isn't very controlled so sometimes that would be within just a few minutes of food and sometimes an hour or two away from it. I don't find that it makes much of a difference for me personally.

The problem that I have with going to sleep is getting my mind to stop racing. It's not that I lay there tossing and turning trying to go to sleep, its that I'm a night person anyway and then when I lay down when I should be trying to go to sleep, my mind races and I think about all the things from the day or the next day and I can't relax.

GABA helps my mind calm down and stop racing and helps me relax to be able to go to sleep. I would say that it starts to kick in for me in between 30 minutes and an hour. I actually like the taste of our GABA powder and sometimes put a scoop under my tongue and just let it sit there for a minute or two before rinsing it down.

I tried the 1st time last week with 1 gr 30 minutes before bed. As a substitute for melatonin. I found it too strong and tried it with 0,5 gr. and I liked it. I take it before the last meal accompanied by 240 mg of Shoden. shift worker here sleep help much appreciated.

It helps me get a good nights sleep.

I don't sleep enough just bc I don't have the time to unfortunately. I normally sleep about 6 hours a night and it does help me sleep all the way through most nights and doesn't make it hard to wake up.

Gotcha. Thanks.

I get this too. I was using it in the morning for anxiety relief purposes, but found myself starting to get addicted to the brief tingling/shortness of breath feeling (I'm a weirdo like that), which resulted in taking higher doses and more often, so I quit altogether because I don't like to feel like I'm controlled by a substance.... Even one as innocent as gaba.
I'm seriously considering starting again, but with my night stack this time. The relaxation/anti-anxiety benefits were definitely real for me.

I had someone pm me just a moment ago and they didn't realize that we offered a GABA powder and that they wished they had added it to their Black Friday order so I wanted to mention it here and make sure that anyone interested in it knew that we do offer it in a 300 gram powder size.

I used to have the Mind Racing problem but it seems to have gone away with age.

Mines gotten a lot worse with age and especially this year it seems like, after the accident and also after having Covid. It's have a hard time focusing from ADHD anyway and then add in post concussion issues + post Covid symptoms + anxiety and its like my brain just won't stop. I stay tired all day and lay down at night and its like my brain goes 'oh crap, lets think about everything that didn't get done today, all that needs to be done tomorrow and ..... oh, shiny squirrel - you forgot to take out the trash (at 2 am) and need to order that think online :ROFLMAO:😂

Btw.. shiny squirrel is a movie reference about a dog that has ADHD for anyone that doesn't know haha.

I have a lot of the same since covid, anxiety, but I'm rarely tired, can't relax, hard to focus, always adrenaline keeping me on edge, no matter how tired I truly am.

Mine is similar in everything you said except that I am constantly tired - like wake up ready to go back to sleep and feel like that almost all day every day type of tired. And the brain fog post Covid has been brutal.

Yikes. I also get this feeling in my brain like my head is going to explode...no way else to describe it. Terrible feeling. But, oddly enough, I didn't have any of the overstimulation feelings when I went out of town last week, but supplements were the same. Breakfast the same too (other then different eggs but made the same way).

Any balance issues? Does it seems to come in waves?
The reason I ask… have you had testing done for multiple sclerosis?

I can think I can relate the feeling you're describing like your brain is going to explode. If you're explaining what I'm thinking, its like being absolutely overwhelmed to the point of like sensory overload and feeling like your head is just going to explode like a cartoon characters. I really don't know how to fully explain it so that's my best attempt at it.

I would explain the feeling as always being there but sometimes being more prevalent than others.

Yes to the balance issues but I'm in the process of having to learn how to walk again from a severely broken leg so I think that is probably to be expected.

I have an autoimmune condition so they test me for pretty much everything under the sun.

Yes, I get that too. Niacin sometimes helps it. 750mg gaba helped it tonight. What have you found to help it?

I haven't tried high dose Niacin for it. I hate the flushing from Niacin. I turn red easy and get flushing and hives more than most people anyway, so Niacin drives me nuts haha.

I use Stress & Anxiety Support as part of my daily supplement regimen. I had normally always used 1 capsule in the morning and 1 capsule at night and then occasionally an extra capsule as needed. When I would feel this feeling coming on, I had started taking an additional 1 to 2 caps to try to help with it and it did help, so now I've changed to doing 1 capsule 3x per day spaced out - morning around 9 am, night around 11 pm, and then one in the middle around 2 to 4 pm.

I had also been taking Api-Plex before bedtime and someone (I forgot who, but was great advice) suggested taking an additional capsule in the morning and that's helped some with it too.

You know, its ironic but I hadn't actually thought of trying GABA during the day for it. I always use it pre-bedtime but you saying it helped you last night made me think about it. I'm going to grab a bottle now and add a 500 mg. dose along with my Stress & Anxiety Support doses in the morning and afternoon and see how that helps.

Edited: I forgot to add that I've been taking 200 mcg. of our Huperzine A 99% everyday and its been helping with the memory and brain fog some.

Going by your reaction to niacin, I wonder if we are both histamine intolerant, because I'm the same way, except I don't get gives. But turning red, yeah, I turn red from talking 😆 But I only use 50mg niacin at a time, so it's not a lot and doesn't flush me.

Curious how the extra GABA goes. Sounds like your using a lot of GABAergic supps too...?

I also forgot to say I just took 750mg gaba post workout to see if it helps at that time, because the other times has been about 5 or 6pm when the feeling could've gone away anyway (I think it's unpredictable, but I'm tracking its "behavior")...

I'm definitely histamine intolerant so good guess on that. There are certain types of supplements that can aggravate histamine that I have to avoid. And I light up like a Christmas tree if drink alcohol haha.

I've seen a dermatologist for it and also the doctor that I see for my autoimmune condition knows a lot about it.

I'm using some different things that have a positive influence on GABA; in my case, I respond well to them so I think its something that I need help with.
