Getting Dressed

Legit question...
Y'all ever have a hard time figuring out clothes these days? I have a wardrobe of suits and ties for work. (I call it my big boy clothes), and the rest of my clothes are essentially gym clothes. Everything in between is pretty rare for me, especially in a pandemic era where concerts and clubs are gone. I have golf shirts, for golfing... But generally speaking on a pub crawl with the wife it would be jeans, gym shirt (one that I never wore the gym lol), and cowboy boots.

We have a big beach vacation coming up soon and I realize, I really don't have good 'casual' clothes for beaches and stuff. Most mens clothes that the fashion industry looks ridiculous on a thicker built body in my opinion. there's a reason why most of their models are 30lbs underweight.

probably sounds weird, never crossed my mind at 20, but at 40 I'm honestly not sure how to dress for a beach vacation in the Caribbean.

Loose linen or cotton pants or shorts and a loose fitting short sleeved linen or cotton shirt with deck shoes is always a decent look IMO, its casual but still quite classy looking and most importantly will keep you cool and comfortable

right on thanks man. I have one linen button down shirt that I like with rolled sleeves. I might see if I can find another in white and maybe (gasp) black, my biggest concern is sweat spots showing on lighter linen shirts but I find for some reason I don't sweat too bad in certain climates... az heat is so dry I don't sweat at all compared to when it's hot up here in Seattle region.

Googled mens smart casual beachwear to get a couple examples. Its a good way to get some inspiration when trying to choose a look, it's an i can't always put it together in my head but i know it when i see it kinda thing for me Invalid Link RemovedInvalid Link Removed

yeah I'm digging the linen + boat shoes, that's a good look

question: do I need the giant purse as well?

Only if you’re taking your boyfriend and not your wife! JK man. I don’t understand todays fashion either. I’m 49 so I get what your saying about what to wear. I like the Under Armor golf shorts and polos with a nice pair of boat shoes, Hey Dudes or Crocs. Even a nice pair of flip flops will work. You can wear a nice t shirt with those shorts as well.

what's wrong with jeans, tee shirt and cowboy boots--now that i am retired those are my 'dress up' clothes-seriously.

I wear my cowboy boots pretty much every day except i have some dress boots I wear mon-thurs to the office, then friday is cowboy boots for me. We are headed to Isla Mujeres in Feb which is this island off Cancun and I'm hoping for temps in the 80s. I have like 20 t shirts and they're like 90% gym shirts so... they probably aren't going to be the best smelling if the temps get hot lol

IDK 40 is a weird age man. maybe I'll stick with my board shorts and a tank top after all. but I know all this fashion stuff out there these days doesn't come close to fitting me. I usually gotta buy a nice shirt that's two sizes too big to get my shoulders and arms to fit, then have the sides tailored in lol

dude I'm certain in retirement I'd likely only be wearing my ariats. they are by far my most comfortable pair shoes. people don't realize how far cowboy boots have come (I still have my old shitkickers from high school, grew up on a farm and mom bought me my first nice pair for homecoming back in the day)

Buy athletic fit whenever possible. Bigger shoulder and arm area with a tapered waist. That way it won't look like a tent hanging off your shoulders making you look like a box.

I have one closet full of really nice dress clothes I rarely ever wear, about 20x that amount of clothes covered in paint (work clothes) and then just a few oddball pairs of jeans and t-shirts for my regular day-to-day clothing. I use to have lots of regular clothes but they always seem to get paint on them and turn into work clothes.🤷
If I was going on a beach vacation, I would pack a few bathing suits and cargo shorts and probably have 2 nice pairs of lightweight dress pants in case I was going out for dinner or somewhere fancy. Tank tops, v neck t-shirts and some something to go with the dress pants, maybe a short sleeve button up or collared shirt

I mostly just wear sleeveless now. t-shirts are super annoying. I went on Amazon and bought a bunch until I found one with the fit I want. I also mostly just wear capris now. same thing, Amazon Chinese capris til I found some I like.

for shirts I mostly wear "muscle killer" sleeveless hoodie muscle shirts. they have baseball taper and the correct size arm openings. I don't like their hoodless tank, but only because it doesn't fit the same.

This is mandatory.

But just get some Hawaiian shirts. That's always best.

Muscle killer is actually decent quality, stay far away from broswear, it looks nice in the picture but it's low quality trash, and not just kind of trash, like absolute junk. Will probably fall apart after 1-2 washes

Muscle Killer is gym clothing... you guys are saying to him just to go and buy more gym stuff for casual beach wear?
Are you talking specifically to me? Cus all I said was muscle killer is decent quality. Didn't say it was any specific type of clothing.

But, for casual wear, I wear the same kind of form fitting t-shirts that I wear to the gym, if I need to go somewhere a little better dressed I throw on a button up shirt, if I go anywhere fancier then that I'd probably wear a suite.

But most places I go a T-shirt and jeans are acceptable. Just about nowhere has a enforced dress code these days, they might get sued for not liking your outfit lol.

I forgot about this thread lol
I still don't really know how to get dressed. I just go with a dark t-shirt, jeans and cowboy boots at home when it's cold and ideally shorts + a linen button down shirt for vacation wear seems to work. I just stay away from colors that are gonna show a lot of sweat in hot climates... white and black seem to be my friend

Basic colors. Tees, jeans, shorts. Strongly agree with the linen and see what works.

I like having a variety of linen tops, they match well with pants, jeans, shorts. I got a hooded linen top from Zara that i love wearing.

Pick out what you like for beach, casual and dinner clothes, can’t go wrong.

I like white sneakers too. Don‘t forget slides.

Form fitting v neck t shirt, blue jeans and a pair of timberland boots is my causal wear for the day today. 🤷
