The US in the 70s and 80s adequately paid staff, so it's definitely not beyond the realms of what is reasonable.

It's just as some point the CEOs decided they wanted to not pay staff, so they stopped giving them raises and then convinced half the population that them being richer is the American thing to do, and paying staff is socialism and evil.

Apprenticeships are good options for sure, truck driving is very dependant on the company.

A lot of companies require the person either own a truck, or lease one and then pay for all the on road costs. It's also usually long hours, overnight stays and long durations away from family. It's a trade off.

But trades in general ARE good options, but the job market isnt endless either. If everyone switched to apprenticeships, all of a sudden the available work would tank. It's about balance.

The thing people find annoying is that a business will DEMAND a 3 year qualification and pay the ABSOLUTE minimum yet reap some mad profits off their work. Apprentices get paid a lot less because they are in training, and the pay matches the experience and knowledge. That's all people ask for really.

It's just about paying people what they are worth and not exploiting them for personal gain.

The problem is that CEOs and large company owners have an obligation to shareholders to maximize profits and encourage investment, which means keeping costs low in order to maximize profit at the expense of adequate remuneration.
and how much do you get paid while going to college?

many rack up 10s of thousands in debt to get a job earning 30K-eh?

the trades are in much higher demand than a bachelor degree, imo...and pay much more.

biden is considering using national guard to deliver goods from ports because there is such a shortage of truck drivers.

in the 70s and 80s companies paid for otj training..more or less apprenticeship training--it's still available to those who are willing to do some manual labor to reach goals.

back in the day we weren't afraid of manual labor.

Other jobs existed, I.e. fast food and white collar jobs which paid a higher starting rate comparatively than they do now.

It's not people having unrealistic demands, they are simply being asked to get paid in accordance to what they are worth.

what percentage of kids enrolled in college today are going for a degree in stem field?

if you are gong for a degree in the stem field more power to ya...what about all those kids who aren't bright enough to be in the stem field and rack up huge debt in fields that pay $30,000 a year?

a little history....prior to 2008 companies gave pre-hire tests to see if applicants had the requisite apptitude for positions they were hiring for. if they were hired the company hired the applicant at starting wage then gave appropriate classroom training before putting the new-hire out on the floor in a starting position...the new-hire could then bid on the next higher position when one became available. the new-hire would have a set amount of time under the supervision of the person who's position they were bidding on to qualify for this position---if after set amount of time the person bidding for the higher position didn't meet the qualifying standards then this person was let go-fired. i worked my way up from starting position to machine operator-the highest non-supervisory position available...nothing was given to me.

after 2008 your buddy obama said everyone needed college training and pushed for every person to attend college---the corporations said ALRIGHT, we don't have to pay for training employees any longer-thank you obama.

now corporations expect perspective employees to be college trained and job ready-this saved corporations a ton of money....good ole obama-eh?

biden ordered ports to operate 24 hours to make room for all the ships anchored out because there is nowhere to dock.

The GLOBAL supply chain is f'd. You're being shortsighted If you think this is only hurting you.

It's happening EVERYWHERE.

Not that it will change your mind. You just want a reason to be angry and a person to be angry at.

Blaming Biden for GLOBAL supply issues caused by a pandemic he inherited is just shortsighted, no matter how you put it.

You're not the only one saying it, but whenever I see people blaming Biden for a GLOBAL issue I just assume they are people who are very insular.

Simply put, Groper Joe is simply Dumbald Dump's 2nd term.

One thing I still disagree is, the issue's werent caused by the pandemic, they were caused by irresponsible big government iron fisted low life authoritarians and Dump is every bit just as responsible for everything.

People blaming the world's global issues on one person I tend to find are those who couldn't even point to the Ukraine or Russia on a map. To them, the world revolves around the US and every single issue is related to the President.

For the record, Orange man dropped to 34%.

It's just a reality - people's perceptions are often limited to their immediate environment and their comprehension of how the global economy works is very foreign to them to the point where it is neglected altogether.

To lots of people, the rising cost of goods, for example, is seen as the fault of the President because this is the highest authority they understand in their limited world view. The fact that prices are increasing for many goods is multi-faceted and due to a lot of things, one of which being a huge backlog and slowdown in the global supply chain. But it is far far more complex than just "Biden is responsible", because the majority of the factors have literally nothing to do with him.

When you have a narrow world view, your viewpoint is reduced down a single point of contention which is often wrong, or completely out of context.

Trump epitomizes all the people I've just mentioned.

Trump racked up your deficit to incredible new levels, something like 7 trillion more debt that the new administration now has to deal with.

If you want to point a finger at anyone, point it at those who are actually responsible.

Under Dump they printed 20% of our entire HISTORIES money supply out of thin air. I warned on here right when Dump started doing it that inflation is coming to a pocket near you with time. I really dont think we have seen Groper's effects yet to full fruition we just started seeing the negative effects of Dumps disastrous decisions.

I dont get how the is labeled as the "economy" guy when he pulled off some of the most irresponsible bone headed policies in the history of all our fiscal policies and we the Libertarians were the onces making the biggest noise against it. We arent psychic, we just use basic common sense. Print trillions and thats a tax without calling it a tax but people got distracted when Dump was sending a measly little check in their mailbox so they shut up.

And I see Dump supporters all over our country going crazy over the vaccines when Dump gave big pharma the money to make vaccines to shoot up everybody in the country but they they want Dump back in 2024. WTF??????

US ports backed up with so many ships waiting to off-load is NOT a 'global' problem, and its NOT indicative of a 'slowdown' in the global supply chain. Those are ridiculous talking points that make no sense for very this specific/national issue.

There's a backlog of ships all over the world. Ports are on reduced capacity because of covid restrictions and a decreased number of workers involved in the operations.

That still isn't a Biden issue - that's a work force demand issue.

“It’s not just a local problem,” said Dee Dee Myers, the director of the governor’s office of business and economic development, last month. “It’s not a Long Beach, LA problem. It’s not just a California problem. It’s an international problem.”

That specific issue might be national, but the alternatives are to ease port working restrictions but face a likely increase in sickness and covid transmission (no doubt a sacrifice you are willing to make on behalf of Port workers), but businesses with any kind of ethics are going to want to decrease backlash of getting their workforce and their family members sick for the sake of saving you a few dollars at the pump.
biden ORDERED ports to be open 24/7...lol

Florida ports are open, and welcoming more ships. So it's only a problem for places that fear covid more than economic collapse. For liberal california havens like LA and Long Beach their bad local decisions created this covid manpower problem... and the problem was amplified by their dopey environmental rules banning older trucks. And its a specific US problem because we have been paying people not to work for so long that some of those people never came back to the work force.

You can choose to call it a global problem, or quote left leaning sources that would agree with you... but the facts on the ground here, known to people who live here, who are in that line of work, would tell you otherwise.

No please check it’s all in the forum. I wasn’t happy at all, I was the one claiming that it’s going straight to my savings account to offset the many thousands of dollars more it was going to cost me in the future to get that check. I’ve said it multiple times estimating the 1200 dollar checks to cost over $8k. I told everybody it was a costly scam and warned of inflation. I’m usually ahead of the times.

And yes for sure, BLM are all mostly in the same group as Dump supporters, each side voted for the same big authoritarian government. Both sides are duped my the very people they vote for.

What? Your claiming I was happy about the stimulus checks but I’m saying I’m the one on here consistently opposing stimulus checks right from the beginning for the last year and a half. That’s the clear difference between me and Dump/Republicrat socialist policies.

BLM and Dump supporters all vote for the same party and system with incremental differences in characteristics they use to divide people and distract them from real life changing issues. That’s what I meant.

If people are getting paid more to not work than work, that's an employers problem for paying poverty wages - period.

That's the free market, which is running EXACTLY the way it is meant to. You'll get a workforce if you're willing to pay for one.

And companies are being ethically responsible, because a life is worth more than you saving a few dollars at the pump. Period. But moreover, it's the holiday period so people buying offshore amidst a pandemic is obviously going to create supply chain issues. It's a domino effect of reasons that pile into one giant nightmare which is reflected globally. There might be nuances in each country, but ultimately supply chain issues are problematic everywhere right now.

96% of trucks meet the regulatory requirements as it stands, but there is a shortage of a workforce

Reality is criminals Dump, Republicrats, Demicans all rape me the fruits of my labor and the future value of my bank accounts.

Regardless if I took the check or not I’m paying 100% for it plus an enormous interest cost. What kind of idiot would I be not to cash it and put it in my savings account? It’s money that was all stolen from me in the first place. It’s my money.

That still isn't a Biden issue - that's a work force demand issue.

“It’s not just a local problem,” said Dee Dee Myers, the director of the governor’s office of business and economic development, last month. “It’s not a Long Beach, LA problem. It’s not just a California problem. It’s an international problem.”
i guess biden doesn't care about covid restrictions since he ordered ports open 24/7-eh?

How does a port being open 24/7 increase risk more than being open for any length of time?

I'm more surprised that the ports are not working 24/7

I would figure having it 24/7 would decrease covid risk. This was the same debate I had (not here) with limiting the grocery store hours during the middle of the shutdowns, time limitations only increases condensity.

The same thing with the ports, if there is a backlog of containers and ships at the ports you would want to increase the time allowance rather first rather than having an increase of workforce if avoiding the ccp-virus was your thing.

it is a shortage of trucks that is causing the backlog.

'US ports are shifting to 24/7, but where are the truckers'?

I can guess a portion of them made a ton of money simply sitting at home with enchanced unemployment benefits....also sitting at home for a year and a half while collecting certainly has a behavioral change effect on society.

Also, consider the fact that truckers getting paid to stay home didnt even have to pay rent because in many places it was illegal to evict people (in some places still is) that didnt pay rent, so alot of extra cash in people's banks accounts they were able to build that they werent able to in the past.

Once money dries up trust me, people will beg to go back to work. I in no way buy into the argument that people are not going back to work because they are sick and tired of wages and shytting jobs. Nope, no way, impossible.

without truck drivers YOU are fucked since you are dependent on food and goods being delivered to you and to stores near you:(...me not so much.:)

lots of advantages living in a rural setting with acres of hunting land and lakes and ponds to fish--not to mention farms.

I live rural too but I dont have the skills you have. Ive never hunted or fished before as I dont like personally killing animals (I support hunters big time though) but Ill have to learn quick if shyt hits the fan, at least Im very well stocked with 22lr for years of small game.

If I have access to plain eggs and oatmeal Im set for life to tell you the truth. I can eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner for an eternity.
