Thoughts on Texas' power grid? I'm reading that their desire to have their own grid has sort of screwed them over on this one. I even heard one small-scale Texas official say that it's not the government's job to provide electricity for the people, and they should figure it out for themselves. That's just nuts, and not even close to true. The narrative being pushed now is that the wind turbines froze and that's what's the cause of the problems, but wind turbines in other states and other countries operate properly in MUCH colder temperatures for longer periods of time, so if they didn't properly winterize their turbines because they thought it was unlikely to get that cold, well, failing to plan is planning to fail. Their insistence on separating themselves from a larger interstate power grid seems to be biting them in the a** right now. Perhaps a bit of a test-run for how overall secession would workout (good when things are good, but horrible when anything goes wrong).

It's a very long time, I've had a couple of mental breakdowns during this which has been the roughest. Supplement wise: zinc, NAC, nattokinase, Vit D, B, K, and lots of OTC pain meds. The only OTC that actually worked was Alka Seltzer Severe Cold and Aleve for the joint pain.

I am in the mending stage now, just dealing with the lingering fatigue and loss of appetite. The worst part is looking in the mirror where there was a muscle filled 215lb man a month ago and now 195lb man that is starting to look like a teenager. Need this damn fatigue to go away so I can start lifting again!
If I was in your shoes (maybe your doing this already) I’d start lifting light even if it’s just the bar or 20% max for some high reps to help your body stay at least on some active shape and that you don’t hurt yourself when your good health again. Even if it’s a measly 30 minute session. A lot can be done.

Yeah, regardless of if we see eye-to-eye with a person's political views, we can all acknowledge that the death of a loved one is really hard for their friends and family, and the world we live in is already a stressful one as it is.

On a related note, I do hope that people continue to realize that smoking is not good for you. I know a lot of young people are vaping, but what was once a harm-reduction alternative to cigarettes seems to now be something young people who never smoked cigarettes are doing now. Less dangerous than cigarettes in no way means without any level of risk or harm, and I think some people are missing that distinction. Rush's comments as recently as 2015that smokers aren't any more at risk than people who eat carrots was just really irresponsible. And also saying that second-hand smoke has no meaningful negative impacts on health. Things like that are just really not cool to say.

I paid close to $2.70 in NY, was around $2.30 November if I remember correctly. I’m guessing it will be $3 before you know it.

Thanks Groper and Karamela Fatriss!

So the Texas mayor who went on a rant about people who said they want the electricity they pay for, saying “No one owes you [or] your family anything,” and “I’m sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout!” has resigned.

More of his rant:

“No one owes you or your family anything; nor is it the local government’s responsibility to support you during trying times like this! Sink or swim, it’s your choice! The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING!”

“Only the strong will survive and the weak will perish. Folks, God has given us the tools to support ourselves in times like this.”

Yeah, I've been working in progressively longer walks with the dog and doing some body weight stuff each day, the hardest part is the mental because a 2 mile walk has me gassed for hours. To feel so weak is a ball buster.

I don't know enough, or anything really, on what led up to where they currently are other than a desire to not have any federal regulation. I have 6 guys that work for me down there and they've always had concerns because when it gets overly hot for extended periods of time, they always have rolling brown outs and shut power off. I doubt freezing temps and snow were ever part of the concerns.

We have wind power here and obviously anyone in the path of I-80 knows how reliant they are, but never heard about cold being a problem until now in TX. Seems dubious.

i didn't miss the point, i took it literally that you were saying there are lots of white cemeteries that don't allow blacks to be buried there...i merely asked you for examples--there should be a whole lot of them-eh?
It was an example of what racism is vs what it is not.

Casual racism is also a thing, which many people overlook. But when you call something racist or discriminatory when it actually isn't, then using those terms diminishes them.

Like the whole transgender athlete conversation going on now. IMO it is appropriate to separate male and female based on their sex, regardless of what they gender themselves

So when can we all be in agreement that liberalism is truly a mental disorder? Time to open up the mental institutes again.
it was the liberals who closed the mental institutes. the vast majority of homeless have mental illness.

his show was on in afternoons and i haven't listened to him for quite awhile, but i always enjoyed hearing a alternative to what the main stream media liberals had to say----liberals are truly not my cup of tea.

i spout a lot of crap and sometimes nonsense but it is my nature not to wish death on illness on people--even biden and pelosi.. i used to pray often for no harm to come to obama....i guess it works both ways, i know conservatives who celebrated ginsbergs death.

Yes, I saw several posts where people were stating that they were happy he died and that he deserved to suffer for a longer period of time, etc. The lack of basic humanity was disgusting. There was nothing about these responses that sought unity. I do not believe I ever heard his program, although I have heard excerpts played on the news. My feelings about his program are immaterial, but having compassion for someone who died is not.

Edit: Perhaps against good judgment, I've edited this to add the response I sent to a poster of very egregious Fakebook post who was simply delighted that Mr. Limbaugh died. What he wrote was subhuman in its content. My response: "I cannot imagine a more hate-filled post. "But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a man." Your horrible post is jolting." I didn't expect to accomplish anything (in fact I received the monosyllabic and hate-filled response I expected), but sometimes we cannot simply sit there and say nothing.

no matter what you might have thought of the man he had people who loved and cared for him, how about a little compassion for them...

quitting drinking, joining AA, doing the 12 steps and finding GOD really changed my outlook and views....i haven't always felt this way-trust me!!!
I quit drinking but my fondness for the human species is lacking at best. I think i have spent too much time dealing with the worst humanity has to offer. Tried the whole religion thing and even went to the whole entire 6 month catechism class at the request of my wife. Nothing “spoke” to me, sounded rational, or made sense. I suppose that is why they call it faith right? So I flaked out right before first confession. I’ll leave the faith stuff to my wife I guess.

Haha. That is fair, but I do think that a disagreement on, say, minimum wage, gun control, etc. is a little different than straight up lying to people about addictive, deadly substances. And it’s not just a “well, it’s your choice, if you listen to him and get lung cancer it’s on you” issue, as he said second hand smoking isn’t really harmful, and that directly harmed innocent people.

Many things in politics are at least somewhat subjective and up fro debate. From minimum wage, to gun control, voting requirements, affirmative action, etc. are all to a degree debatable. So disagreeing with someone on a subjective topic is inevitable. But when people start spouting off objective lies that harm people, both smokers and otherwise, I think that crosses a different line.

Again, I am not disagreeing with you guys. Requiring SOME form of ID to vote is not at all unreasonable. I am just saying that it would be wiser to pass such a law well in advance of any major elections as not to make it seem like it's an attempt to keep some people from voting. Even if it already should be a law, for the sake of giving people as little ammunition to cry racism as possible, passing it well in advance of a major election seems like the smart thing to do, right? And guess what, now is right after a major election, so plenty of time for people to get an ID for the next major election(s). So now is a good time. If Biden did this, it could actually go a good way to helping show he is committed to fair elections in the eyes of many people on the right, right?
Agreed. Biden would look good doing that but it will never happen. Democrats don’t support it.

That is fair. But at least flat earthers don’t harm others by simply by holding their beliefs. A parent who thinks second hand smoking isn’t bad directly harms their children, for example.

I would say that if someone took the words of rush Limbaugh to heart and chose to smoke based on his belief that it was not harmful then nature has done it’s thing. Stupid is supposed to hurt. Sometimes people need to have a little more personal responsibility for their actions.

Wtf.

Blatant misuse of the word racism weakens its actual definition and impact.

Preventing Black people from being buried in a white cemetery is racist.

Wanting someone to show their workings in math is not racism.

The child whose parents think second hand smoking is harmless and smoke in their house and car is “supposed to hurt?” The child should have had “more personal responsibility?” If you’re an adult who smokes yourself to gifting lung cancer, I see what you mean. But if you think second hand smoke isn’t a bad thing and subject your children to it, the child is a victim.

Yeah I didn’t read the part about second hand smoke or I guess I missed that part. I can see your point there.
