Creatine’s Effects on Energy/Wakefulness

My wife has struggled with getting up in the morning and hitting the snooze for most of her life. I take care of her supplements for her (DCP, vitamins, etc) and started giving her Kre-Alkalyn again (she used it successfully in the past but without realizing what’s next) and just 1.5G to start when she went away for a weekend (I didn’t tell her about adding it back in). When she came back, she talked about how much energy she had the whole weekend and it was great. That type of response has continued and extends to knocking out chores left and right, and she just texted me that she’s up at 7am on a Saturday ready to go when normally she’d sleep in until 9am, or before we had kids, 11am! She has also doubled her reps in all lifts and added 5-10% weight on everything in the first week of that small dose. Now, I realize creatine is great for strength, but that quickly at only 1.5g? Naturally, after realizing the strength gain, I started giving her the full 3g dose 😂

To be clear, it’s more affected her drive to do things and ability to easily get up as opposed to actually doing things and the struggle to get up. She’s always done chores and got up on time when necessary (still building in plenty of time to hit the snooze though). But today, she has no reason to be up at 7am and texting me that a new PS5 is $800 lol.

Does anyone have any insight?
Thanks in advance.

I believe there’s some evidence behind creatine in improving depression. I dont know how acute the benefits are though, i thought it was more of a gradual improvement with long(er)-term supplementation.

I have no theory on why she’d take it and be running around with more energy and vigor that quickly after starting...aside from that maybe she really enjoyed her time when she went away for the weekend and was excited to get up to do what she had planned for the day. Then that positive/happy mindset kind of carried over to the days when she got back?

Or, maybe, at that low of a dose, placebo? (Some people would take that negativity, placebo is very powerful and we are all extremely susceptible to it).

Im less likely to believe it’s placebo in this case because she didn’t realize she was taking anything new. Right or wrong, I didn’t tell her. She came back and was like, “I feel so much better, have you changed my supplement regime?” as opposed to “this new thing must be doing this...”
Otherwise, I love the power of placebo. I’m pretty sure the dramatic effects I get from Citrulline malate are from placebo. Doesn’t matter to me as long as I get results 😂

I also agree that I would’ve thought all effects would be gradual, but maybe there are some effects that are acute not studied...?

I've been taking creatine for years now..I think most of us do. I don't know if it helps with energy or depression but psychologically speaking, I couldn't start my day without it.

Super interesting to folks who wake up depressed or anxious with little drive...
I am most def revisiting my Creatine regime. It’s been years since I’ve consumed it.

There is a study saying that women respond better to creatine than men do possibly on ergo-log site so it's possible but I think it used monohydrate regardless if it worked keep on it.

In r/nootropics you can see that creatine is quite popular, the brain uses creatine too.
