Ok, step one is control border access. Good. Step 2 is control community transmission. Not so good.
Um, step 1 didn't go so well either. Trump has been trying to control the borders since day 1 of his presidency and has been OBSTRUCTED at every turn. How can you fault him for not having a great step 2 when he was prevented from actually completing step 1!?
You also realize that if Trump came out and said, "The sky is falling, everybody stay home, stockpile your food, avoid all other humans wear a mask if you have to leave the house. " that this country would have FREAKED. As it was I couldn't get toilet paper, paper towels, meat, veggies. Suddenly everyone in the country was a huge fan of broccoli even. Freezers were sold out everywhere and my friend with an appliance business is still back ordered on them today. How bad would that have made things?
And if he said that, we all know that Pelosi would have been out there without a mask saying, "This is fine - see, I just got my hair blown out."
It's all a game and you're being played by an old hag.
I'd wager Democrats would say the same about the majority of Republicans. You have a Republican president who barely cares 192,000 Americans are now dead due to a virus he knew all about. And you guys are still defending him.
Yeah? You really believe this? How much does Pelosi care? While trying to workout a stimulus package she came back with demands to limit Trumps power, because POWER is all she cares about, and when she didn't get that she let everyone go on vacation while the people were suffering. He at least did pass an executive order to get people some money. Oh, in Pelosi's defense, she did hurry everybody back when the USPS needed funds to ensure she could stuff the ballot box. Oh, wait, that was just another grab at power. Yeah, Trump is the one that doesn't care about the people.
Yeah absolutely tragic what happened. I remember watching it on the news at school. Next year will be 20 years. Crazy.
On the 10th year anniversary I spent it trying to find the names and faces of all the victims. Turns out, it takes a long time when it is so many names and faces.
That's a good exercise. We should have a website or something with all that. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was in college, woke up, took a shower...didn't have the TV or anything on so I was just getting ready for class like any day and my phone starts ringing while I'm in the shower. When I get out it's ringing again and it's my mom's secretary..."Just making sure everyone is OK." I remember thinking, "Why the heck are you calling me at 8 AM to see if everything's ok." and then she's like, "A plane just hit the World Trade Center." - and I'm still in wake up mode and I thought she was over reacting a little....and then the second one hit. We all went to class and the TV was on and we just sat there in silence, watching. Totally shock. ]
Hard to imagine that people who weren't even born yet are now in college.
And I'd say not nearly as many Democrats do this as you think. Again, that link has some good insights. Both sides see each other as the enemy, when they arent.
That would be like a Democrat saying "all Republicans are racist, misogynistic white men". Just because a few are, doesn't mean they all are.
You mean, racist, misogynistic white men like Joe Biden? haha.
Honestly, I DO think democrats as an institution have become the enemy. They are part of the, "This is right because we have a consensus and all the smart people agree it is right." method of lazy thought that society has had to fight back since the dawn of time. But they wouldn't necessarily be where they are if republican "leaders" didn't play a role either - like you said, sheep going in different directions.
The issue is they are all politicians. Except Trump. He really isn't. People think he's making so much as the president, but he's not. They had a critical article about him a week ago talking about how his kids BEGGED him to abandon his campaign because his companies were losing millions over it all. He could be making more money just doing what he's always done.
I know this may be hard to fathom, but I do honestly believe that he may have some narcissistic tendencies, he does have empathy in him. Just like the latest claim, with no real proof or evidence, that he disparaged troops. Well, that goes against what his actions have shown. He spoke with the father of a fallen soldier who was on hard times and who's ex-wife was getting the son's benefits - so Trump sent him money out of his own pocket. Of course he got criticized for that too because he didn't send it fast enough.
He has pulled more soldiers out of harms way than any of our politicians wanted. While Obama was sending more soldiers over seas, Trump is bringing them home.
Numerous families have reported having him call after a family member died in service and they have, without fail, described him as being sincere and genuine and they were really thankful for his calls. I'm not trying to deflect here - just a tangent that shows I think he gets criticized in such a way that he seems like the devil and while I'm not saying he is up for sainthood, he's a human being and he does some things better than others.
But merely suggesting the idea that Trump could actually have a "good" side to him, will get most democrats so worked up and emotional it is often not even mentioned. I have people in my life I would NEVER bother saying that to because the fallout would be ridiculous.
expressing sympathies from the other side of the world is good and i thank you...but you have no more clue what a impact it had than i would have if something similar happened in NZ....please don't pretend you do, thank you!!!
I was in North Carolina when this happened. I'm not sure I really understand the impact of it all. I know people who were first responders on the scene. I know a guy who was there in a couple hours as a news photographer and a lot of the photos that you see in documentaries and such are photos he took. I know people who volunteered from all over to rush to NYC and climb through rubble and save people. I wasn't any of those people. I actually regret that.
I hope nothing like that ever happens in NZ or anywhere else. I appreciate anyone taking the time to look up information and learn about it. How many Americans have spent time trying to find every name on the list of people lost that day?
