i am all for background checks and registrations, but if police get defunded who is going to do enforcement-social workers?
you can't be for laws and be against the police you would count on to enforce them!!!
Many police agencies already do this. The officers go to the call first and make the scene safe. Then they request a social worker respond if applicable. The social workers have the power to issue a WI 5150 hold as well.If it's up to me, we give the social workers some amount of self defense training and send an armed officer along with them in case it does get ugly. You agree that police aren't trained to deal with mental health situations, so let's give them some back up just in a slightly different way than usual.
have you actually talked to any social workers or police officers to get their input on this?If it's up to me, we give the social workers some amount of self defense training and send an armed officer along with them in case it does get ugly. i think he is suggesting social workers as 1st responders alongside police. Many police agencies already do this. The officers go to the call first and make the scene safe. Then they request a social worker respond if applicable. The social workers have the power to issue a WI 5150 hold as well.
Oh...yeah, I dont like that...unless the police have them stay back at the car until the scene is safe. A dead social worker is not effective for combating mental ilneas....i think he is suggesting social workers as 1st responders alongside police.

from what i understand social workers are already overwhelmed with case loads?
it could be that social workers want no part of putting their necks on the line considering how dangerous these situations are?
so, you are of the opinion that social workers are down with being 1st responders enforcing gun violation laws?I have. They are overwhelmed, you're right about that but those I've spoken to support the idea but they need a budget for more hiring both in general and especially if they were to take on more responsibility. I've also read that these opinions are unique to the relatively few people I've personally spoken to/corresponded with.
I would imagine the threshold would be much higher than simply just being sad. The idea is to reduce risk, not eliminate it, so you target groups that are most at risk - I.e. felons. And then it turns from background checks and they sneak in the legislation "if you tell your doctor you have been sad when you get out of bed, you must be reported to Homeland Security and have your rights revoked without judge and jury." Or they will sneak in the gun bill "if the NSA illegally taps you and finds you saying "sad and gun" in the same sentence say buh buy to 2nd.
'police officers across the US have quit their jobs in recent days'I would imagine the threshold would be much higher than simply just being sad. The idea is to reduce risk, not eliminate it, so you target groups that are most at risk - I.e. felons.
Under federal law it is unlawful to sell or otherwise dispose of a firearm to someone who has been diagnosed as mental defective or committed to an institution. Mental defective is defined as:
A determination by a court, board, commission or other lawful authority that a person, as a result of a marked sub normal intelligence, mental illness, incompetency or condition:
1) is a danger to themselves or others
2) lacks the mental capacity to contract or manage own affairs
3)includes the findings of a court that a person is deemed insane through a criminal proceeding
4) those found unfit to stand trial or found not guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility.
So that already covers quite a large base. As with most law, the people are deemed mental fit until proven otherwise. So imagine if their was a screening process that filtered that out. The way you guys might see it though is that they have the right to bear arms until that right is taken away, so it would be unconstitutional to screen them in the first instance. I can see that argument as well.
That's the difference between a right and a privilege. A priviledge is like a driving licence, you have to prove you are capable before being allowed to drive on the road. A right is something you are born allowed to do, until it is taken away.
i doubt there is much left to save in portland...it's really a shame. in 2018 portland area tourism generated $5.8 Billion in direct spending---i guess they can kiss that money good-bye?Time for the national guard and federal police to bring order back to Wisconsin....better late rhan never i guess. Stupid Portland still not asking for help lol

They are just now starting to speak out because the polls are showing people are tired of this...its always political'DC mayor bowser condemns 'highly inappropriate' behavior of black lives matters protesters berating diners'
mayor bowser stated that DC residents would not be 'bullied out of living their everyday lives'
i think it is about time democrats started speaking out on this kind of 'inappropriate behavior' that has been going on since these 'mostly peaceful' protests started...thank you mayor bowser, hopefully you have set an example other democrats will follow.
The NBA is a joke. I havent watched since the Kobe and Shaq era...."get woke and go broke" is there new motto...with their BS ratings..nba postpones playoffs to protest blake shooting....i bet the chinese are very unhappy, lol.
MJ was the man...asked why he wasn't political jordan replied--'republicans buy shoes too'The NBA is a joke. I havent watched since the Kobe and Shaq era...."get woke and go broke" is there new motto...with their BS ratings..
dumbasses have already started to walkback defund police also...only a moron would think the majority of people think we would be better off without police. They are just now starting to speak out because the polls are showing people are tired of this...its always political

How is the US comparable? They screen people and there is mandatory Armed service requirements for their population. Why are you not including Switzerland in your wild western fantasies?
Jo Jorgensen 2020, "Make America a Giant Switzerland!!"
What are you going to do if China decides to nuke you? What are you going to do if China decides to go to war with Australia over issues of the South China sea, Australia makes a provocative move and China decides to set up shop by invading NZ as a launching point to strike Australia.....then PLA soldiers are encouraged to makes mixed babies with NZder ladies just like they have been in Eastern Turkestan?
Would you rather a heavily armed society have the ability to fight back? Or sticks, Legos and spoons the preferred method to thwart and fight back the PLA these days?
What are you going to do if China decides to nuke you?
Again, just a bunch of what if
I looked those up, and casualties are low. That's the point I'm making. Any kind of attack if feasible, but there shouldnt really be any argument that if you want to inflict the most harm with a minimal amount of planning, you use a firearm.Google vehicle ramming attack and go to Wikipedia and look at the list of terrorist and non terrorist use of a vehicle for mass killings. There’s too many for me to post.
My whole issue with your post is you made it out that a .22 is worse than a semi auto. That’s an asinine comparison. A semi auto has nothing to do with the effectiveness of caliber size. So, it’s evident you’re not a gun guy. What I mean by that is you may have a gun but you’re not well educated in firearms.
I do agree with you firearms are used more frequently than any other weapon, but that doesn’t mean a mentally ill person can’t use a vehicle or knife. Vehicles have been used around the world since the 50’s for killings. I didn’t even google knives because I know there’s many a lot in the past few years in Europe.
When someone makes an argument that is negative about firearms and uses a comparison that is not valid, I shutdown because they don’t know that they’re talking about.
Just for shitz and giggles I searched knife attacks. There’s a boat load of them worldwide listed on Wikipedia. The first one I clicked on was the Anne Anne Kindergarten stabbing in Hong Kong in 1982. A man killed his mother and sister, then went to the school and stabbed 34 kindergarteners. That’s just a sick individual that needs a bullet to the head.
What are you going to do if China decides to nuke you?

what good are laws with no one to enforce them?I looked those up, and casualties are low. That's the point I'm making. Any kind of attack if feasible, but there shouldnt really be any argument that if you want to inflict the most harm with a minimal amount of planning, you use a firearm.
That doesn't make firearms bad, it's just a statement of fact.
Again the same arguments are being presented; unless you cant stop all murders, there shouldnt be any laws at all.
If China wanted to invade NZ, they would absolutely annihilate us. Their active military is half our population and they have ICBMs and Nuclear weapons. I dont see any NZer using that argument as a need to own a firearm. The chance of that happening is low, and if it does then were screwed anyway. We're a peace keeping nation without any real airforce lol. No fighter jets, and a few old cruisers for a Navy.Good luck with your beer bottles, napkins, tractor fuel and matches, RRROOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Russia might. Iran might. It's almost happened before. They wont because thats the end of China.....you dont understand China, with the Art of War the last thing you do is destroy the entire infrastructure. Having a heavily armed populous is first and foremost a deterrent to a land invasion.
and hillary was ALMOST president....just sayinRussia might. Iran might. It's almost happened before.

What if scenarios mean nothing to me. Any body can make up any far fetched scenario in order to try prove a point. What if China, Russia and Iran decided to nuke you? They could. Then what
and hillary was ALMOST president....just sayin
me too!!!I wouldn’t bother me if the NBA folded and never played another game. I include the NFL and MLB in that also.
The thing that keeps nuclear warfare at bay is mutually assured destruction. It only takes one person though to decide it's worth it.and hillary was ALMOST president....just sayin
My take on that is that if the US really, and I mean really, wanted to they could. War is an absolute money maker, so it makes sense to drag it outIf the USA cant beat a bunch of hairy cavemen in Afghanistan after 19 years, believe if its possible for NZ to beat out the PLA.

If you complain about looters and rioters, complain about illegal gun carriers who police did not arrest and who subsequently murdered 2 people.

We couldn’t beat those cavemen because the general public doesn’t have the stomach for us to do what would have to be done.
The two guys he shot both attacked him while he was running away. One of them beat him with a skateboard and the other pulled a gun. The one that pulled a gun is a felon and was illegally carrying.
It’s about time someone checked these rioters. Fuggem.
