Donald Trump running for president

My guess is that it greatly depends on the state.
of course nothing is set in stone..the maximum security federal prison here in terre haute i'm sure would be no picnic...but overall MOST federal prisons are much better than almost any state prison.

"No one" may be hyperbolic but I'd be a hypocrite if I were to criticize that. I'll agree that people aren't doing hard time for an 8th but I think there are people who are in more trouble than they should be for an ounce that they maybe were gonna sell a few 8ths of.

There was a case in my area in NC dealing with a group called the Detroit Boys. For years they were going to Detroit once a week and bringing back 2-4 kilos of heroin on average. They finally got caught but the US attorney would not take the case and try it in federal court. I’ve been around the legal business for 24 years. Believe me. No one in federal prison is doing time for simple possession. What usually gets guys hemmed up with the feds is have a few ounces of coke and a gun. The gun will do it every time, especially when they’re a convicted felon.

No user buys meth or heroin in "bulk." Marijuana is a different story, and has been de-criminalized in most states anyways.

lol...this is true. a user who bought meth/heroin in bulk for personal use would not be a 'user' very long.

I honestly don't know a ton about meth or heroin users. I could see a functional meth user (I'm given to understand they exist but again, I'm out of my expertise here.) might stock up.

I've dabbled but as the screen name implies, I pretty much stick to cannabis.
lol...i started high school in 1972, the druggie lifestyle was 'cool' back then. the pot was so thick at concerts you could cut it with a knife[3 finger 'lids' were $15 a ounce went for $20. used to have a guy come thru the park selling 4 way hits of mr. natural for $5 and rorer 714's were 3 for $5. used to wash everything down with a pint or 3 of wild irish rose or md 20/20.

almost everyone i grew up with are dead and most of the others have spent a good part of their lives in prison.

i consider myself to be truly blessed to have escaped that life.

And New Zealand has lost about 34 officers in the history of the country, while the US loses that in a few months EVERY YEAR. You can’t even compare the two.

The police dont really need to be militarized. The goal should be to police with consent, not solely by force.

I'm not saying they shouldnt be well equipped when needed, but the idea of "defunding" means to redirect excess funds into community based initiatives while still being resourced enough to do the required job.

Like if a PD has 5 APCs but would only ever use 1 at a time, I might be thinking "those extra funds could have been used elsewhere".

Spoken like someone who has never policed an inner city (Chicago, LA, New York, New Orleans, etc...)

Maybe we could do a foreign exchange program, but for cops. You could come out here and try to police with consent...lol

Have you ever policed anywhere?

Maybe if you stopped thinking you lived in a warzone, youd stop treating everybody as a criminal.

You are literally voicing the opinion of the problem that people are protesting about. The type of person who thinks you can only police by force should never consider a job in law enforcement.

79 were shot with 15 fatalities on 4th of July weekend in Chicago...you don't think the citizens there feel like they are in a warzone?

Also, speaking of bear cats like the one you posted....you would definitely need one on many Chicago gang riddled streets.

I feel like you just make stuff up as you go along lol

If it is such a warzone, why not just send in the army?

What do you mean? Because I think an armored vehicle is a good idea in an area with this amount of gang violence and violent criminals...? Yep...just making things up.

I'm sure it's incredibly useful to have mine-resistant vehicles for all the rogue mines in Chicago

Rifle rounds will cut right through that cute little truck you guys drive around in NZ....

Thats a great idea, but the first thing they need to do is round up all the politicians who contributed to this whole mess with the war on drugs, stripping the people of their 2nd Amendment rights, created racial divisions in society and have put this economy deep in the hole.

Make Politicians Afraid Again.

Oh stop that wasnt necessary, lol

Really, the best way to solve these problems is to immediately end the war on drugs and allow people to arm up.

I remember a number of years ago Detroit has raising shootings and crime rate, and the chief of police went out and told the people the police cant be there for you in time to help you, arm yourself and defend yourself and the effects were significant at that time.

Took the words right out of my mouth. “Militarized” is a term anti-cop groups have coined because they think the police look way too mean in their tactical gear.

those people should put portland and seatle on vacation agenda.

It is armoured, but yeah you know best for sure.

It's funny to see the people who stand behind the 2a the most, are the same who want their police having old military equipment lol

You realise this equipment is old military gear, right?
Those trucks were designed for Afganistan lol

i don't know how much coverage you get in NZ, but if i were going to portland or seatle the bottom would be my preferred method of travel.

What is the big deal with the armored vehicles? It’s not like they have turrets on them. The military for whatever reason is done with them and handed them down. Seems like a better solution then scrapping them in the dump or selling them off to countries that will fight us with them 20 years from now.

Let’s stop operating on feelings and start using our minds. It’s just a truck. Just because it’s scary looking doesn’t make it anything other than a truck.

exactly...but the way things are going turrets might be a nice add on.

It’s just a truck. It has armor. That can only help in ensuring the city isn’t paying out a huge payout to the surviving family of the officer if they take fire. Did I mention it’s just a truck? No Mk19, no M2, no 20mm. Just steel sides and tires. FFS

Top one is bulletproof. So what makes the bottom one more appealing?

It's about whether or not police actually need so many armoured vehicles. That's the point. At what point do you say, hmm, maybe I could invest that money into community projects rather than buying an old military vehicle.

Serious question, is police being heavily armed more important to you than creating social change? Do you prefer police operate by show of force, or do you prefer cops who are more community focused?

Sure, there's a time and place for show of force. Theres a time and place when force is the only option. But what I'm asking is, which one do you prefer for the majority of time?

If the majority of funds is directed into new tactical equipment, what message do you think you are sending? That you are a cop for the people?

When policing, we run into people like this all the time.

If I went in heavy, 99% of the time they'd just kick off and youd ruin any chance of dialogue. You go in to talk, and maybe 10% of the time youd have to call for back up.

Policing isnt just about going in hot and heavy. Invalid Link RemovedInvalid Link RemovedInvalid Link Removed

I should make it clear that i dont actually care what vehicles they use, or what equipment. It's about whether some police areas actually need that equipment.

If they need it. Ok sure. Safety is paramount. But if bumfudge Oklahoma has 10 APCs I might start asking questions

Again. It’s a vehicle. It’s not arms. It’s armored. Big difference. In Oklahoma there are civilians running around in even tougher looking trucks lol. I want police officers to be safe. I’m related to a few of them around here. If having a tank is what they need to get home to their wife and kids at night then so be it. Hell put some lights on them and make them patrol cars for all I care. Don’t want armored up cops and interactions with them? Stop being a fucking criminal. Too easy.

So you support militarizing police and you dont see an issue with that?

Was Breonna Taylor a criminal? Was Tamir Raive? Jace Young? Yay those police officers get to go home, but what about the lives they took?

Looks like not being a criminal doesnt stop you from getting shot by police. So what's your next nuggets of wisdom?
