Donald Trump running for president

I stand by tough sentences when victims are involved. But for victimless crimes I'd like to see reduced sentences.

I think the NZ justice system is too easy on some people. In that regard I think the US is better.

i agree on victimless crimes, but the vast majority involve a victim.

Also I'll just clarify - it is absolutely a problem. But what your implying is: "theres so much bad stuff going on in the world, why protest just one thing?" That misses the point.

If people keep moving the goalposts by saying "ok, you care about BLM but not paedophiles?!?!?" Then what's the point in protesting anything? People will protest child sex rings next, and people will still say "what about human rights abuses in China?" So then people will protest that, and the same people will say, "so all of a sudden BLM doesnt even matter?!?!?!"

The difference is 1 issue is politically racially divisive (even divisive in the black communities) and unfair to a large group of great police officers who service our communities. Everybody can be on the same page against pedophiles.

If they do, then I'm all for tougher sentences proportionate to the harm caused.

I'm sick of seeing NZers get like 2 months jail for running someone over while drunk

There are plenty going to Europe. Canada and Australia too and I'm gonna guess that means NZ takes it's fair share too.

the USA has been the leader for how many decades? the world is far behind, and i'm guessing will never come close.

True but most that are in prison are not there for "violent crimes"

We had a 3 strikes rule, where if you committed 3 violent offences then on your last conviction you'd get the maximum sentence.

I think even that was too lenient, and so many people here called it too harsh?? Like wut

if someone robbed you at gunpoint is that violent even though you didn't get shot?
Yeah, aggravated robbery is a violent crime. It is a very traumatizing experience for the victims- many struggle to go back to work afterwards.

One store got robbed 3 times at gunpoint, and the owners who were immigrants had to close up shop and move to a different country to try rebuild their lives. They lost everything. Their business, their homes and their livelihood.

Luckily they weren't hurt, but they lost everything else.

we had that once, don't know if it's still in effect...i think drunk driving should be 3 strikes, i have heard of people having up to 10 arrests for dwi.

ok, so someone burns down your house when you are not home....is that a violent crime?

black armed millitia group -not fucking around had a protest...one of the members 'accidently 'shot three of his fellow members....

Drunk driving should be 1 strike and your out. A car turns into a deadly weapon right quick. People are pretty shitty drivers unimpaired. I just don’t see a lot of leeway because it turns bad so fast. I have witnessed the damage and detestation done by a stupid drunk driver.

You think he did it on purpose?
the story was very short on facts so i would not want to speculate. but i will say it's possible?

seriously if i had to guess i think they were just very inexperienced with firearms.

yes, a drunk driver seriously injured my pregnant daughter, and her husband and other child were both with her...

fortunately they all recovered...very close call!!!

Wut????????? Your really discrediting yourself here.
It was my understanding anyone sentenced to hard time for simple possession has had their time significantly reduced and/or been released. I live in CA, and this is what is happening here.

People are mad about the Epstein scandal.

If scandals sparked up protests everytime, we'd live in perpetual chaos. Not just with Epstein, but pharmaceutical companies jacking prices, lobbyists controlling legislation, media being controlled by lobbyists and government, the powerful and rich getting away and with murder etc etc etc

Individually, those things seethe and simmer until people just cannot take anymore. With BLM, people LIVE that everyday. The opportunity for a ember to create a firestorm is much greater than isolated scandal.

African-Americans in Minneapolis and the rest of the country, for that matter, had the perfect opportunity for change after the George Floyd incident. But instead, they blew it. Burning cities, which attracted just about every other anarchist group known and parts of them rallied together to devastate communities. They blew it and BLM has ZERO credibility.

Yeah, they protested wrong so their lives are forfeit!

Is that just for people with a small bag of weed?

In the article it shows that possession is a subset of trafficking.

That’s because most states have various charges relating to trafficking and minimum amount of a specific drug to reach the elements of a trafficking charge. For example, NC has a trafficking by possession, trafficking by transport, trafficking by selling, trafficking by delivery and trafficking by manufacturing. So that’s where the possession part comes in. NO ONE in federal prison is doing time for a simple possession charge.

Typically the line between possession and trafficking depends on the amount. So, if you buy in bulk for personal use you may still be committing the crime of trafficking.

As it turns out these laws are complicated and vary greatly and there's a reason they pay people a lot of money to sort through it all. Who knew? lol

years ago one of my high school buddies owned a pizza joint and was using it to sell weed. he worked out a deal to plead guilty if they sent him to federal prison--word is federal prison is like a country club compared to state prisons.

"No one" may be hyperbolic but I'd be a hypocrite if I were to criticize that. I'll agree that people aren't doing hard time for an 8th but I think there are people who are in more trouble than they should be for an ounce that they maybe were gonna sell a few 8ths of.

My guess is that it greatly depends on the state.

Oh it is man. Some of the federal prisons allow the prisoners to by TV’s for their cells. It’s crazy.
