Anyone worried if Corona virus keeps spreading the gyms will shut down?

see that's what pisses me off... everyone makes the assumption we cant have both safe distancing and an open economy. like 10 yr old children could handle that. why cant adults?

I mean, clearly we haven’t in reality already... be it churches with hundreds of people sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, packed beaches during spring break, these protests with hundreds of people also shoulder-to-shoulder, etc.

You honestly think people can follow those rules? I went to the grocery store a couple days ago and they had arrows set up at the end of each aisle to make them “one way” aisles in an attempt to limit people crossing directions. People couldn’t follow that. Youre right though, 10 year old children could - because theyre more intelligent and logical than probably 25+ percent of the adult population.

It is recommended to wear a mask TO PROTECT OTHERS in case youre an asymptomatic carrier, which as we now know is the thing seeding new infections (see post yesterday if you need to). Oh, im sure there are no Americans that are too far up their own asses to rebel against that on purpose, right?

We are a very ignorant, entitled society as a whole. I love this country, but honestly, in general, I dont think we as an entire population can be expected to show respect to one another, look out for our fellow man on a large scale (sure, plenty of individuals can do this, but as an entire society - nope), and do whats best for the nation as a whole by going through a little discomfort as an individual for 6-12 months.

Consider me pessimistic, but i dont think theres a snowball’s chance in hell Americans stand a chance at accomplishing what youve said. Look at some of the shît people in this thread believe. There will always be people too shortsighted and selfish not to put the population as a whole at risk. We are an individualistic culture and in this case that is quite detrimental as compared to one that is more collective in nature.

sad to say, I completely agree...there is roughly 20% of the population that is just not going to follow rules/laws.

Is this your response to everything I wrote? That author says these social distancing guidelines are “cramping lives” and that being able to go out for beers is more important than what we’re trying to accomplish by limiting these sorts of activities lol. That right there is proving my point.

And it makes it look like you back peddled from your stance of “we could have both” (which is at least able to be entertained) to “mY FrEEdoMs are GOnE. These guidelines are completely unnecessary because I want to go watch football and drink beer with my fellow man.” Yah, thatd be cool, im sure wed all like that to be able to happen.

As the quote I posted within the last few days stated by the Infectious Disease Dr out of MN, “we are completely unprepared for the marathon ahead.”

Sorry man. I know a lot of players in the game of age like that. I used to shoot stick a lot in Chicago.
Also: I can see many people having undiagnosed issues thinking they are safe, and end up not being so ok.

Have you seen any of the stuff coming out that shows smokers might actually be less likely to get the virus??? My girl works in the medical field, she just got a email that had something in it talking about that.

I heard that a few times now. haven't seen any relevant studies or what not

I've not. I'd be interested in seeing that information. Maybe it's the nicotine?

i can believe that the nicotine could be beneficial if you just started smoking. I’m struggling to see how impaired lung function from years of it will be though.....

and gotta be said (I’m in the Uk, have literally no views on trump, we have our own ‘interesting’ leader) but trump suggesting injecting disinfectant was brilliant viewing 😂😂

You can get nicotine in other forms without the negative chemical additions in cigarettes. There are also 'natural' cigarettes without fillers and chemical additives.

oh for sure I know you can get it elsewhere and it’s widely used as a nootropic or pwo now (I’m an ex smoker so personally I don’t but mates use the gum).

thinking about it I wonder if some of the chemicals in the smoke kill the virus making a smoker less likely to get it via airborne spread? I know back in the day doctors use to keep a cigarette or cigar burning in their surgery to kill off germs. That might make it less likely to catch the virus but I’m assuming a smoke is more fucked if they do still catch it......?

I wondered the same. If something is Killing the virus in your lungs.

Everyone, If you don't smoke please don't start. Its one of the hardest to kick. Top 5 most addictive substance in the world for a reason.

Just wanted to shed light on the idea, not promote smoking

Ex smoker here too. Not easy to quit! Vaping helped me to do it, then one day, I just stopped vaping.
Interested in nicotine research however.

You’re losing your time man, morons will be morons.

welp this just goes to show ya..

Free knowledge! From Rep Matt Shea: “THE PROTESTS ARE WORKING, THE GOVERNOR IS BACKTRACKING ON HIS ILLEGAL ACTIONS:

The Governor did a 180 on residential construction last night. Our civil obedience is working. Yes, contrary to the fake news we are advocating obedience to the supreme law of the land. Invalid Link Removed

A few thoughts regarding the situation. First, this situation is real. Equally as real is that COVID-19 is a low risk to the vast majority of people (USC Study, New York Study, etc.).

It is the burden of Government to prove the reasons for restricting Constitutionally protected rights. If Government does not prove that then it is acting illegally since the Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

The Governor's power is not unlimited. Under the 14th Amendment the Governor must show a compelling governmental interest with actions narrowly tailored to address the "danger." Put another way the Governor must always use the least burdensome measures to achieve public-safety. Those actions cannot be arbitrary or capricious. There are dozens of Supreme Court cases on this and AG Barr gave a similar assessment recently. Arbitrary is defined as "Not supported by fair, solid, and substantial cause, and without reason given." Capricious is defined as "given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behavior."

For example, if a Governor says she will extend the stay at home order for 8 days if protests continue this statement (and any action taken pursuant to it) would be unconstitutional because it is the very definition of capricious.

Governor Inslee is acting in an arbitrary way. The constitutional question is not whether a business is essential or non-essential. To say so is arbitrary. The question is whether a business can be operated safely. Banning painters from working in residential construction was arbitrary. They wear masks and gloves already as part of their work. The same goes for hunting and fishing where it can be done “safely” according CDC guidance. Allowing abortion clinics and pot shops to be open but ordering gun stores and churches to be closed is another obvious arbitrary and thus illegal action. This point is driven home with non-emergency Optometrist and Dental visits being prohibited. They already follow some of the strictest health protocols so they can by very nature be opened and operated safely.

Lastly, each citizen in Washington State has a duty under Article 1, Section 32 of the State Constitution. “A frequent recurrence to fundamental principles is essential to the security of individual right and the perpetuity of free government.” As citizens we have a duty to counter the fake news and return to those fundamental principles.

Those standing against the inconsistent, nonsensical, and asinine policies of Gov. Inslee are obeying the Constitution. Gov. Inslee currently is not.”

Interesting article on Sweden (the poster boy for lockdowns not being needed)

Invalid Link Removed

Take away message for me:

- death rate is higher than other Scandinavian countries who were stricter (based on deaths per population

- the people themselves in Sweden self enforced a lockdown in many areas (I.e traffic dropped significantly, people chose to stay at home). Whilst the government haven’t mandated it, there has been a voluntary push on social distancing.

- their decision not to go as strict was based on modelling which showed population size could restrict impact of the virus (they only have a 10m pop)

- they ‘may’ have higher levels of immunity (seems likely) and this may get them to a herd immunity quicker.

- their hospitals weren’t over run and still aren’t.

- it is too early to say whether they made the right decision in terms of saving lives. Far too early.

For me it seems clear that one can not simply look at Sweden and say the UK or US didn’t need to lock down. They took a decision based on circumstances that don’t apply in bigger countries. It could very easily be proven in the future that this was the right decision for them AND the lock downs elsewhere were the right decisions as well.

You also have to wonder whether other populations would have been as socially responsible in terms of following a recommendation rather than an enforcement?

This thing is not slowing down.
Opening economies will permit a faster second wave that would damage it further. (IMHO)

There was a protest in Madison, WI yesterday 2,000 estimated people.
Now we have to wait and see what happens.
Florida is my backyard, and I'm worried for others here.

As long as people abide by social distancing, (I don't see that happening)
We will get through this.

just being honest, when you look at all the charts it looks like the USA will come out of this with the worst death rate (by whatever metric you use). Ironically right now the charts show the USA isn’t as bad as many others when looking at death rate per capita (ironically Sweden, the place that didn’t lock down are worse than the USA - just another reason that’s really not a good example of why you didn’t need to lock down).

but the USA is behind Europe and over the next few weeks I expect the deaths per capita to increase significantly. European countries have largely (through the measures) got things under control and deaths are plateaued or declining. IMHO the USA haven’t got it under control and deaths will continue to increase........

that's because your watching / listening to mainstream media. no one watched the truth bombs ole Tucker Carlson dropped the other night apparently. I posted it. there is 0 proof. 0 that the lockdowns have done anything. again everyone is ignoring the mountains of real time data coming out on Wuhan flu. there is no statistical difference bvetween locked down states/ countries, vs those that have not locked down. you can say its due to what ever.. states being less inhabited, fewer towns/ more rural, ect… but the numbers are not a lie. the new york study on pregnant women found over 600 women had antibodies. 56% higher than expected. that's a ridiculous amount of just pregnate women alone.. there are several other bearing out the same info coming from around the world. the stuff is way more contagious than they thought but also far far less dangerous to the general population. again people need to stop living in fear and start listening to the relevant data..
just like the whole hydroxy chloroquine ordeal. its used all over the world and has an excellent safety record. and tons of current data showing its the number 1 go to around the world for this virus, yet the politicians in the states want you to think its going to kill you if you even look at the ****. there is tons and tons of studies happening world wide and no one wants to listen to the world renowned players, but rather the nightly news on CNN.

I disagree with the statement around locked down countries - just don’t see how you can compare them when virtually every major country (and those with large populations) did lock down?

in fairness bro you stated that this was overblown as regular flu kills 20-30k per annum and this had only killed 2k. Now it’s killed over 50k in the US (with many more to come) would you accept that clearly your early views were misguided?

clearly you missed the memo that all deaths are being added to the Wuhan list regardless if that's why they died so...its all BS> further more would you believe the gov Cumo is sending covid patients to retirement homes,,, with body bags?? 5 bags per covid patient. so ... tell me how that doesnt effect outcomes in real time?

No they’re not you absolute dolt...

Look, they explicitly list COVID deaths as separate from influenza deaths, and pneumonia deaths that didn’t involve COVID or the flu. And they even list total deaths from all causes as separate from all of the causes I just listed.

Do you even bother to check the BS you claim?

so the US are overstating deaths as being covid (that otherwise wouldn’t have made the news) and are trying to increase the death rate from covid deliberately? Is that honestly what you are saying or am I misunderstanding? Maybe your comment was actually a sarcastic remark to a reporter?

I‘m not claiming to be the greatest political strategist (although do have political studies qualifications) but I’m thinking it’s pretty easy to see that deliberately increasing the covid death rate isn’t an optimal political move? The more deaths the more people will disagree with the approach by both central and federal administrations.

it makes a lot more sense to understate the death rate so the economy can be reopened with public confidence - a strong economy is typically what wins presidential elections. Overstating death rates will only make people believe the failure to lock down earlier and harder was flawed?

I assume your suggesting that they want more ammo to blame the Chinese but I’m not sure that more US deaths adds anything to what’s already there? It’s not like these ‘extra’ deaths were ones that the administration would have been blamed for?

sorry bro but do not see where your going on this path at all?

He’s wrong. Irrefutably and easily proven wrong. See my recent post.

yes I am saying that. its been shown again and again. and while I refuse to post data, you can easily find this info. Italy has admitted 99% of covid deaths had other possible causes of death. this has been on the other news stations quite a bit.

here is a fun one for your entertainment.

The US is not, and I DID post data showing it. You’re wrong. Plain and simple... f**k off...

my wife went to Walmart to get some laundry detergent. she came home without it.

she said there were several large groups of teenagers hanging out in the store and not a single one had a mask on.

80% of them probably already had it and have antibodies.

at least that's what im sticking with.. apparently its pretty much impossible that I havnt come into contact with the virus yet. so I expect I have the antibodies by now. maybe i should start a go fund me so i can tested FFS.

The anti body test is $50-65
My wife is a front-line healthcare worker and she just got the test.
(Not sure when the results come in - Maybe 5 days)

The Covid-19 test is free.
Depending on where you live, it may cost but in FL it's free.
(Not accurate. My wife said: 50%) Sucks.

Is there a concern as to whether the antibody test will show positives for all strains of the corona virus (since we know there are many)?

Or, will it be able to show antibodies for specifically covid19?

Great question. I have no idea, and I will have to ask my wife and get back here with that answer.**
Her location tests for Pneumonia and other ailments as well so they order those tests alongside Covid-19.

**As far as the different strains. I will ask.

Awesome. Thank you.

WHO states no evidence recovery from Covid-19 prevents secondary infection.
(Great, just great.)

At least with Ebola, you only get it once. (Cheap laugh.)
