You left this part out.

The testing results also may be artificially high because “these are people who were out and about shopping,” Cuomo added. “They were not people who were in their home, they were not people isolated, they were not people who were quarantined who you could argue probably had a lower rate of infection because they wouldn’t come out of the house.”

That still doesn't speak to those whom can have it and be fine / survive and carry it to their family whom cannot.
That would be inflated greatly too.

I have. Even if it were 1/2 percent. That's still a whole lot more than the common flu which is .01%
.50% versus .01%

Let's call it 1 percent.
330,000,000 get Covid 19.
That's 3,300,000 dead.

.5% would still be double what happened in 1918. 675,000 dead, back then.
1,650,000 dead.

They had 3 waves back then.
We are in our first wave, of at least probably 2. The Fall.
I'm really hoping we don't suffer any sort of losses like that.

Once again, forest and trees...right? You tested people more likely to have it and its at 1%....10x less then what was reported earlier. Now test those it was spread to. Want to bet its another 10x?

They shut down right away and all but avoided the first wave.
They laxed too soon and were crushed by wave 2.

This is it's equal or worse.
(Healthcare workers do not die from treating people with the flu)

Just because you have the antibodies doesn't mean it isn't 10x as contagious as the flu.

Apparently we don't have enough technology to kill this thing without killing the patient.
Because it's a direct parallel. It's another version of this very virus.

Back then it killed those with under developed immune systems. *Young people*
Now it's killing those with weakened. It's the opposite.
I'll be blunt. This thing scares the hell out of me. Not that I could get sick but:

- I could get someone sick
- My wife could get sick (She's compromised)
(I don't want to kill someone by being irresponsible)

Healthcare workers actually do die from the flu, they just aren't broadcast on network news and shut down the economy. Media just treat those as acceptable deaths...like heart attacks and cancer deaths.

You keep making statements that actually make the case for less mortality rates. Yes, it could be 10x as contagious...which means that many more people would have it..and the death rate is even lower.

Heart attack, cancer, and flu deaths don’t really have the potential to increase at an exponential rate if left unchecked, to be fair.

Yes, lower death rates than initially reported is fantastic news, but even if the death rate is “only” comparable to the normal flu, given that there’s no immunity to it yet, if it effects a ton of people, that’s still a ton of deaths.

What? I’m pretty sure that there have been more COVID deaths in the US than flu deaths this year already. And heart attacks and cancer aren’t contagious; you’re comparing apples to oranges. How would travel/business restrictions/lockdowns help prevent either of those? It wouldn’t.

Actually we don't really know because flu deaths are usually examined over a 12-18 month period as the data is revised over that period of time.

I'm not comparing apples to oranges, I'm comparing death totals and people's emotional reactions to it.

The answer to your last question won't be answered for many years to come.

Work? Thats how it WILL work eventually whether by nature or vaccination. Its already working in NY as the new study is showing. Same with the Stanford study....Once again, you don't understand it.

I love answers like this. Sign a DNR if you're possibly wrong. A real humanitarian.... So sad.

And why are you bringing up protestors? Its possible for people to take COVID-19 seriously, worry about their house payments and job while questioning if the government takes away rights for "good intentions". You can ACTUALLY think about all three at one time. Its amazing!

Are you really suggesting that lockdowns would drastically reduce cancer? Or even that it would take years to say it wouldn’t? What is the proposed mechanism(s) by which you think it may?

It’s one thing to say that COVID may not be as deadly as once thought, but it’s still worse (a greater threat) than the flu; surely we can agree on that.

Don't think I ever suggested that. I merely brought up the sensationalism based on assumption when the same people literally ignore diseases that kill 10x more people every year and they don't say a peep. It seems emotion, hysteria and fear "trump" facts.

It’s one thing to say that COVID may not be as deadly as once thought, but it’s still worse (a greater threat) than the flu; surely we can agree on that.

Its a greater threat because we don't have a vaccination for it.....but does that justify destroying someone's business? job? Freedom of assembly? Do you force people to wear masks now?
 
It makes you sound kind of stupid when you say no one cares that people die of cancer or heart disease. There are millions and millions of dollars poured into these areas year after year for research on prevention, reversal, new drugs, new surgeries, etc.

Im pretty sure there are also tons of news articles posted on the topics annually as well. Maybe not a “quarantine” but that would do literally zilch in preventing those things. Its really a pretty ignorant comparison.

Edit: and, there also are absolutely media driven stories where a reporter writes an article completely misrepresenting scientific data for clickbait and a catchy headline.

I literally told you I meant the media and show me where I ever said a quarantine would effect cancer and heart attacks?

That's how it freaking works: 'flatten the curve' games only change the infection rate by 1% either way, they only delay infections/deaths, spreading them out over a longer period, which helps keep hospitals able to cope. But a majority of US hospitals are empty, and have not seen the wave of covid patients Team Apocalypse promised, so we were too aggressive. Now we're looking at a fucked year next year due to everyone being a giant pussy. Keep in mind that 1% change in infection rates/deaths does NOT address the deaths and hardship that WILL occur due to a longer economic depression caused by the extended lockdown.

What do you mean people don't care about cancer or heart attacks? What can be done, especially short-term (since people have short attention spans and don't like putting aside short-term goals/benefits for long-term benefits) to prevent/reduce cancer and/or heart attacks? On an individual level, what can you do to prevent OTHER PEOPLE from getting cancer or having a heart attack? Not much really. But by staying home when you can, you can help prevent COVID from spreading to OTHER PEOPLE. And what new information do we learn every day about cancer or heart attacks? You really are comparing things that are not alike here.

You can argue that governments are "overreacting," or, more accurately, "erring on the side of caution" in regards to lockdowns without "knowing" for sure how much they help relative to how much they hurt the economy and that impact on lives/health/etc., but you don't have to compare COVID to cancer or heart attacks to do so; it actually weakens your argument, because people can just focus on explaining why they're not akin to each other, and not focus on some potentially valid points you can actually have/make...
