Do you guys have limits on how many people can be in an establishment at a time based in square footage?

We are limited to something like this:

Pharmacies: 15 people
Grocery stores: 50-75 people (sized dependent)
Lowes/Walmart: 100 people
no restrictions like that on any store that is still open...my wife and I are avoiding dollar tree, we went by there yesterday and parking lot was packed, and people were going in and out reckless of how close they were. krogers and Walmart aren't really all that much better...but like I said we have been lucky so far, I think only 7 confirmed cases.

It's still mutating, so total number of strains probably won't be known until it's all over, but there were two identified pretty much at the start: S and L. I believe L is the more severe.
Yeah, I guess it potentially mutates ever so slightly each time it infects a new person, as to make itself more inabitable in its new host. I feel like I’m warding off demons! Well, more than usual anyway...

Curious to hear the answer. I quickly Googled it:
ABHS are tremendously effective in preventing the spread of the seasonal flu, H1N1, URI, and other viral-based and bacterial-based diseases. Ethanol hand sanitizers were significantly more effective than hand washing with soap and water for removal of detectable rhinovirus, the most frequent cause of the common cold, from hands. One concern is that the antimicrobial effect of ABHS is very short lived. The addition of organic acids to the ethanol provided residual virucidal activity that persisted for at least 4 hours. Whether these treatments will reduce rhinovirus infection in the natural setting remains to be determined.

two minutes is what found...
I have never been told either way that it would do anything more than act as momentary disinfectant.

Without googling it myself, I would say that once your hands dry from use of hand sanitizer (be generous with it), it’s essentially just a fresh start. Depending on how much you use at a time, I suppose that could be up to two minutes...haha.

If I’m feeling really dirty in the hospital, I like to wash my hands thoroughly first, and then also use hand sanitizer after drying my hands before touching anyone’s breasts.

My work had to provide some for us because they are sold out everywhere. It's a bit daunting. I mean to say, have they stopped producing them? What about Toilet Paper? Paper Towels? They are out everywhere.

How much does anyone need? I'd be happy with a bottle for the house that would last a month for the both of us.
It's ridiculous how many people hoarded the stuff. You can buy bleach, and put one cap full in 2-3 cups of water and then place a white rag inside so you can use that, but I'd rather not.

I'm on the constant lookout for forage some basics, and not so much for me as I am pretty much able to stay at home.
It's irritating. If I find a source then I will share it here for you guys.

Edit: Update.

I just went to Amazon, and noticed this under all hand sanitizer listings.
"Available only for hospitals and government agencies directly responding to COVID-19"
In NZ we had issues with hand sanitizers and other things like that being out of stock, then the supermarkets said that they have sold enough stock for 7 million people in just a few days (our population is just shy of 5 million).

Each days shopping prior to our lockdown sold more than our busiest holiday periods lol. People out there have been hoarding big time

Other alternatives are certain essential oils such as tea tree oil/eucalyptus

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0021850213000086

"

Abstract
Our previous studies demonstrated high antiviral efficiency of natural disinfectants, i.e. tea tree oil (TTO) and eucalyptus oil (EUO) on the filter surface. The TTO aerosol challenge as disinfectant showed its high antiviral potential. The main aim of this study was to investigate the antiviral activity of TTO and EUO aerosols in range of concentrations against Influenza A virus and E. coli phage M13. It was found that both tested oils aerosols possess strong antiviral action and capable of inactivating model viruses with efficiency of more than 95% within 5–15 min of exposure. Additionally, the TTO and EUO vapors were also challenged for their antiviral activity. The use of natural disinfectants like TTO and EUO in aerosol form as well as in vapour phase looks very promising for further development of virus inactivating procedures and technologies for air quality applications."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1360273/

Less harsh than all of the chemicals too
Did you read more than the abstract?

Whats the concentration of TTO it takes to begin showing antiviral properties? Because a lot of the studies covered in that study are using 2-5% oil directly on the skin, not diffusing it out into the air.

Theres a passage in there stating TTO “did not perform well” against HSV-2 infection in mice.

When you say “less harsh than all of the chemicals”, what do you mean by that? Do you mean that alcohol or chlorhexadine based sanitizers arent well tolerated? Do you mean that TTO has zero adverse reactions associated with it? Do you mean that TTO has less adverse reactions than conventional therapys? If so, how do you know this?

Yeah, the timing feeds right into online conspiracy stuff, but things like this have been going on for a while. There was a researcher at University of Kansas that got busted on a similar charge last year.

It also seems to take multiple days of direct application to show an effect.

"The oils volatile phase antiviral activity was evaluated in experiments, where the viral suspension was exposed to
saturated oils vapour for up to three days. In these experiments,100mL glass vessel was filled with 20mL of oil and a
small Petri dish, preloaded with 1mL of viral suspension, was installed at about 5mm distance from the oil surface inside
the vessel. The layer thickness of viral suspension was around 1mm. For the entire experimental run the vessel was
hermetically sealed with a parafilm layer to ensure vapour saturation in the space surrounding the Petri dish with
microorganisms. Samples(100 mL) were taken each day for plaque assay. For the negative control scenario, the LMO
was used."

They still haven’t disclosed what was in the vials though. And that time frame and this whole pandemic, horrible coincidence 😂
What about the fact that China is in a trade war with the US? huh huh? Maybe they released this into the wild to hurt our economy because they were losing the war? And right before an election? And why are they hiding their own numbers?

Even worse if they used our own vials from one of our elitist universities to do it!

I'd be pissed if I was chinese and found out my father died from a man-made virus that my gov't released on its own population in order to spread it into the world. But, then again, I'd also have no right to bear arms so I guess my alternative would be to stand in front of a tank and stare.

I guess Walmart made a corporate decision for nationwide Walmart stores...we only have 10 confirmed cases in my small city of 64,000, but the two Walmart stores here have just today began limiting amount of people in stores...I welcome this decision and only wish the rest of stores that are still open will adopt this preventive measure!!! krogers is a petri dish, I will buy my essentials at Walmart until krogers gets with the program-even though I love shopping at krogers---I know most of the employees at my regular krogers by name.

What if we made it to release in China? They were sending the Vaccine. $$$
Then I'd say we succeeded?

Of course, if I was China, having a couple of lieutenants appear to steal vials of biological material from America before I released this may also help pin it back on America. It just keeps going and going. It's like a big circle that only ends with the Illuminati.

Sorry to hear that. There certainly are some selfish republicans out there, just like there are selfish democrats as well. And there are good people on both sides I would say too - like you. I think at the end of the day we can hammer on each other politically, but I still can tell you're a good person with good intentions. Even if you are wrong. :)

I think, as we get older, a lot of us realize our parents, who we've always viewed as adults, are more like children than we'd imagined. That's why I don't have kids. I don't want to burst anyone's bubble.

Edit: Forgot - Sometimes people get old for a reason :)

Abolishing isn't the only way that rights are violated. Trump's response to this has been slow and pathetic (as has that of our representatives, both Democrat and Republican) because he goes with his gut rather than actual data and the advice of experts. The government however needs to make difficult decisions during times like this, so that is what it is. I'm not knocking Trump for having to weigh the rights of citizens against keeping people alive. What I am knocking is people who somehow spin this into a Democrat plan to take away rights when it's not a Democrat in that seat. I also mentioned the Patriot Act as another example, and maybe it's a coincidence that a Republican was in power then as well, but it doesn't support this idea of Democrats infringing on Constitutional rights.

Drugs I could have gotten like Marijuana to ease their pain, instead of opioids that screwed them up.

from what I understand trump is leaving it up to states to pass laws concerning pot-states right is a good thing, imo.

what about those demcrats releasing child molesters from prison-eh chief?

so far as I know trump hasn't passed any federal mandate, he is leaving it to up to individual governors to set rules for their state...so much for being a dictator-eh? this make sense since some states are harder hit than others, he doesn't want to shut down the entire economy unless it becomes totally necessary.

Ok, correct - there are many ways to violate a right. You said "taking away" originally; but it's the internet and no point in picking out a vocabulary error. We all make them and arguing over them just pushes us further apart. I get it, I agree with the point.

My point is mostly that on one hand you and so many other liberals are saying how slow and pathetic his response has been but called him a racist for stopping flights before anyone else, and said he was trampling rights after that. But then you accuse his response of being slow and pathetic, which is kind of the point. What's he supposed to do? Go into full lock down and arrest people for leaving their house? Where are the rights in that? And if he tried, would he face a similar criticism as he did for stopping flights?

No matter what he does, he is wrong just because he is Trump. And anyone who sees it differently is "brainwashed". But that is funny because being brainwashed is discounting any action and criticizing it for the person doing the action and not on the merit of the action itself.

This is, in my unimportant opinion, a tough line to balance on. He (and other people running the government) HAS to get people to do things to avoid contact, but has to avoid trampling rights and I think he's done an OK job of that. If I have to run to the store right now, I can - but I also know I should do everything I can to avoid it. But if I run out to the store I am not getting arrested for it.

Could he do better? Of course. But he isn't really getting any "help" from anyone - just criticism. He gets fought on everything. What has Pelosi done?

I think what TheBigT is thinking is articles like this: https://nypost.com/2020/03/31/does-nancy-pelosi-know-about-the-coronavirus-outbreak/

And that is a conservative news outlet, so to highlight here's a liberal news outlet talking about how the Dems have it all right: https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/03/27/democrats-have-right-idea-what-covid-19-relief-should-look-like/

And that juxtaposition I think is telling - as much as anyone wants to think their news isn't biased, it is. And both are probably wrong in a lot of ways. Fine.

But yeah, I can concede that politicians, whether conservative or liberal, are a mess. Term limits are badly needed. Until we have that, you do have a point that it isn't only democracts building governmental power - it is ALL politicians. They have incentive to do so by the nature of it being their career.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-04/what-happens-if-you-re-seriously-ill-and-it-s-not-from-covid-19

It made me think - the people who need to go out the most (sick people and elderly who need treatments and supplies and already have a hard time getting out) are actually the people who are being forced to stay home for fear of their lives. The people who ARE looking to go out (the healthy) are the most capable of staying home for extended periods. Kind of ironic.

you need to quote the real whackos like AOC and her gang...MSNBC/CNN hell even the network news are anti-trump...look at little Georgie[bill Clintons hatchet man] who is now a major network headliner.
Honestly, I think the real point is that it is hard to get any neutral news anymore. It used to be a source of pride to journalist to maintain the neutral position - but that has long gone. We all have sources of news and you really have to read multiple news outlets to get any real view of things and even that isn't ideal because you have to kind of guess at the center based on what was presented on the left and on the right.

And no one wants to admit that they "like" a news source because it agrees with their views. We all want to act like our news source has higher standards and that's why we go to that source for information.

I am 61 but healthy as a horse-so to speak...but my wife has a heart condition plus having crohn's disease. she only leaves the house for walks and I run the errands unless she waits in the truck for me...but it scares the hell out of me that I would catch it and give it to her.
Yeah, my gf has a rare autoimmune disorder (pemphigus) and asthma. I won't be able to live with myself if she gets this from me - but I still have to get food and supplies. I just try to go as infrequently as possible and buy as much as I can. Problem is, I go and they don't have something I need (like toilet paper) and I have to go back again in a couple days because then I REALLY need it.
