Staggering how many people still think this isn’t a big deal.

literally every developed nation is currently tanking their economy to deal with this......you really think Trump and BoJo would tank an economy for shits and giggs? The information they have is scaring them shitless. That’s a decent reason to believe this is a big problem.

if you remove what we don’t know and look at what we do:

- the only countries that have reduced the numbers of cases have done so through full quarantine/lock down (pretty drastic measure). Nothing else has worked.

- there have (fact) been fatalities across all age ranges. Yes the vast majority are in older people with underlying health conditions but it’s naive to assume that everyone who isn’t high risk will be fine (there’s at least 2 under 40 year old men on ventilators at my wife’s hospital)

- the numbers of cases/deaths worldwide is still lower than many other flu’s/viruses YET the people in charge have reacted with much bigger measures than ever before. For me that shows they believe this is more serious that any previous flu/virus (this is every world leader, not some despot in one country, every developed nation)

Standard or Olympic plates? On Walmart’s site, I see:

Not sure about shipping time or local availability though.
Your effort is greatly appreciated. I actually just looked there for my current plates and they are $42 per 45lb plate!
Arrival is April 2 :( but hey, thank you very much my man. I appreciate you.

I really only want the 45 pound plates so, yeah! 4 plates ordered! :D

What are you guys planning to support gains as best as possible in the mean time? I was thinking of Ignit3 and BMP. Ignite to keep fat off and BMP to hold onto muscle.

For immune system, I'm eating loads of mushrooms and smoothies with loads of greens w/ ginger and lastly molecular hydrogen.
I am going to workout and eat a sensible diet. 🤷‍♂️

Will the gym equipment even ship??
Saw a news story about Amazon suspending shipments/warehousing of non-essential products. Ooooofa
I remember reading that about Amazon. That makes good sense.

These are coming from Walmart.

It said arrives 4/2 so if it doesn't, I will inquire as to anything they can do with regard to compensating the misnomer. I'm pretty good at negotiating with situations such as this. It's not a necessity so, I won't be too emotionally wounded... :)

Yeah man!
Somebody I know is so wrapped up in conspiracy theories.... She actually claimed "Everything is going to go dark in 70 hours!!"
She has 27 hours until I remind her of that nonsense.
... But I already proved one of her conspiracy theories false (I PROVED it for her. Showed her the facts. Her resppnse: That's your opinion. ... LOL).
Consp Theories are some kind of weird addiction. No matter how many you prove false ... They'll never acknowledge it. They'll just move right on to the next one.
Human nature. Sometimes it is easier to believe that there is order and reason out there than to accept the uncertainty of it all. If I believe there is someone ultra-powerful pulling the strings but I have it figured out, that is more comforting to most people than realizing things are uncertain and we have no way if figuring it out.

Look at global warming. People who can't provide any real evidence just love it. They feel empowered because "It is our fault. It is in our control if all you morons would just listen." They are so certain, because it is so comforting to feel in control of a danger.

Referencing my prior post with death rates (*of settled cases), the numbers coView attachment 192251me from the worldometer Web site posting real time data. Great web site for global and individual country data.
Yeah, so things are getting worse based on that data. In spite of all the fear and lock downs, etc. Not sure if that means the social distancing isn't working or if it means we didn't distance soon enough. Future data will tell.

It isn't them creating stupid ones. It is people BELIEVING stupid ones that is the problem.

Like I said ... I've shown people PROOF that these things are lies... And they look at ME like I'M the crazy one.
... And then promptly move on to the next conspiracy.
It's an addiction man. Separate yourself from it.
There is a saying. "If you ever feel like you are arguing with a moron who just wom't listen to the facts, first make sure the other party isn't doing the same thing."

I picture this person telling their friends, "I showed him PROOF of this conspiracy theory and he still refuses to accept it."

Not saying you are wrong - this saying rings in my own head quite often and reminds me to look at myself and examine my thoughts as best I can. I am not always great at it.

But in general, I agree with you on conspiracy theories.

All im saying is he needs to relax he’s spewing fear in his posts.

YES if you are immunocompromised, old, or diabetic it will be worse.
Also these people shouldn’t be leaving the house. If it was MY mother or MY gf id tell them to sit their ass on the couch while I did my job and got the supplies. I wouldn’t “freak out” at someone coughing..
I get the call for balance - but you can practice social distancing without being full of fear.

You agree that IF you had a loved one you would take steps to protect them - but then suggest you would go get supplies. This is not an insult, but that is naive and shows that you are missing the point of it all.

What are you gonna do when that person coughs on you? You are going to go home and bring it right back to them. Or what about when the sick person touches something and an hour later you come back and buy it...sure you can wipe things down and should - but what if you become infected? Now YOU become the person who brought it home to your loved one.

Everyone seems to be thinking - most people don't even know they are sick and a small percentage die...so what's the big deal?

The big deal IS that most people don't even know they are sick! They are out spreading it around and they feel fine. Look at Rudy Gobert and now the few NBA players that have it - for the most part they are saying they feel fine. If they weren't tested, they would be out with all their rich friends infecting them too. But we have a shortage of tests as it is - so most of the infected people don't even know.

There was a good article on Typhoid Mary that came up on my phone...similar situation. She felt fine, sickened a dozen people and one died. They tested her and found she was infected and asymptomatic. She refused to stop preparing food for people because she thought she was fine....

Ordered a loadable sand bag (multiple handles, 25-75lb), kettlebells and thinking of walking into walmart and buying a couple pairs of their heaviest dumbbells.

The bag i can front rack full (75lb) and squat - super set with lunges. Use it to OHP, swing. I have a pull up bar and resistance bands to use for pushups. This will be fun, returning to "functional'' training.

LOL.

NO.

Like I said ... Showed them PROVEN, VERIFIABLE Data.
I know the difference between that, and showing someone a YouTube video with some unknown guy, not showing DATA, explaining why the earth is coming to an end in, (checking clock) ... 18 hours now.

But you're right in a way ... People will argue with a wall, just to make themselves feel better about bumping into it (I can see that).

Since I was there... Witnessed the irrationality, and saw the provable data I provided ...
I'm pretty sure of my explanation of what happened in that situation.

It APPEARS exactly like addiction.

Somehow, the movie "LIFE" doesn't seem as far fetched anymore. j/k SICK MOVIE.

Was anyone here aware there is an actual formula for intelligence?

What I'm referring to here is everyone's current favorite virus: Covid-19 as a form of intelligent life.
Not very friendly, but then again, intelligence doesn't require moral behavior now does it?

I might submit, Covid-19 is an alien life form, much like any virus.
They can self-replicate; mutate; defend themselves.

Hopefully we can wipe this MF out.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy. Really I do. But I also question, research, and test what I read and hear to see if it really makes sense. FWIW - I even went to the bank today and grabbed 2k in cash and a full tank of gas. No problem with either, and this is Maryland one on the states enacting severe emergency measures! So if you heard any second hand story about banks limiting withdrawals it's probably bullshit.

Most of these conspiracy rumors are laughably ridiculous and I weep for those mentally diminished/damaged souls that believe this crap.

Case in point - a good friend from high school sent me the most ridiculous YouTube nonsense about Corona and Saddam Hussein today. See link. A grown man in his 50''s literally believes this stuff. I pointed out a half dozen ways it is a complete scam pile of BS, and his answer was that there are more videos. And then some rambling nonsense about China, CIA, and deep state. HOLY - F. The **** that people will believe!

So, there's another thread on here about mega-dosing Vitamin C and it got me researching a couple of questions that came into my head and I came across this article about Vitamin C that was unexpected. It's about Metabolic Syndrome and Vitamin C possibly having a role in restoring normal function in this syndrome - but it links obesity with reduced vitamin C levels. I think this is interesting because obesity and a lot of the secondary syndromes/diseases that come along with it may be implicated in the risks associated with Covid-19.

I'm not implying Vitamin C is a cure in any way (to anything) here....it's just an interesting and indirect link that is curious.

I'm pretty sure Gravity has been really close to being proven 100% but then again, after I typed that sentence, the role in gravity is far from well known in it's interaction between time and space and is it an independent force? Damnit.

I mean you have your body to do bodyweight stuff? Some light resistance work and eating based on what you have is going to be way more effective than taking some supplements in the aim to think it'll make a difference at this point in time.

It is an unfortunate time for some people, but I'd save the "good stuff" for later when you can get more impact out of it.

May be a good time for people to get a break from beating their bodies up and taking a million supplements anyways.

Pretty close...yes...but not certain. The idea of gravity doesn't really mesh with the rest of physics. Unifying gravity with the other "known" forces is a major problem in physics. Einstein actually created a new way of thinking about gravity that really can lead to the questioning of some of Newton's theories. These new ways of thinking about gravity led to some breakthroughs, yet Newton's laws are still so useful that they are all we needed to succesfully put a man on the moon. And that, to me, is one of the PRIME examples of how reality is uncertain. I mean - on one hand we have ideas that explain things that we couldn't explain with the old theories - but the old theories STILL hold on because they are USEFUL in our understanding of how things work. They allow us to predict an outcome. And at best, that is all we can ever do - come closer to certainty of an outcome.

I mean, that's one of the big things about quantum mechanics that has been demonstrated with experimental observation - that all outcomes are always possible and the best we can ever do is assign a probability to them. We all assume that we won't fall through the floor in our house, but there is a chance...a small chance...that the forces that hold us up (the forces of our molecules vs. the forces of the floor's molecules) will align perfectly and we will just pass right through. Of course, the likelyhood of this is so small we would probably have to stand on that floor for a 100,000 years....

I love Richard Feynman and he has this interview, and I think more people should hear it and understand it - especially in this day of alternative facts (i.e. - in reality there are no "facts" to begin with). Here is part of it:

I agree here 100%. Like Justhere4comm said above with his poem - this may be an opportunity that you don't realize yet. Time to relax and recover (physically and mentally) and gain something you didn't even realize you were about to gain. I don't think worrying about 1-2 pounds of muscle and what supplement you are going to take, etc. is going to make a big difference. I really doubt you will regret losing 2 pounds of muscle or not taking HMB for long after you get back in the gym and getting back on track.

Not to pile on. I'm feeling you here, but we all make choices.
  • We have one car.
  • I ride my bike to work.
  • We bought our home based on that; safety and location.
  • We can afford a few things we each are passionate about.
  • It is a privilege to have a home gym, and we saved for 10 years for the house.
  • We lived in crap apartments that were more than a mortgage but bad credit.
  • Don't ask about that other car that was repossessed years ago; or the payday loans.
  • Or the other car that ended up in flames on the highway...
  • Or that funny story of my car being towed and being blackmailed under the highway pass... by the tow truck dude who ; let's put it this way. It was more like armed robbery. $500 cash.
At the moment there isn't much you can do, but you can do your best.
I just paid $15 for a case of water instead of $5 its usual price. Why?
It's what my wife will drink and I love her. I will sacrifice something.

There is always a give with the take. Get what you need, sacrifice something else.

Forgot to show you this special water... haha. She laughed. That made my day.

My wife sent this to me. It really speaks to the seriousness and how different this is from the common flu.
I like bringing humor to situations to help others and myself, but this I think should be shared with you.

Conspiracy theories aside: Much of this may be repetitive, and old hat for some in here.

Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell: I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand...
It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics.

Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.

Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why?

Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..

H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.

Fast forward.
Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”

This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.
And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..

That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.

We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.

Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...

And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.

Be smart folks.

True, but I guess you have to ask yourself if you care about those who are more vulnerable. If you do, then maybe making sure you don’t contribute to it’s spread may be worth the personal sacrifice of some inconveniences
I don't. Not at all. Hate me if you want. I am not, and never was, under the illusion that this life is some given, some permanent thing. Anybody can die at any time. People get old and vulnerable, nobody did that, it's life. I would be saying this If I was old, and now you will scoff. That's fine. I feel some hypocrisy here. People are acting like they care so much about human life. Look at this planet. I will never for a moment buy that humans care about human life. We don't. This is all selfish nonsense. I get it. Old people want to live, well newsflash. Diseases just come up apparently, nobody made them. I don't have to do jack to protect you, if you are old. Protect yourself. I got my life that I didn't ask for, and you got yours. And you don't have to do jack for me, because you aren't doing it in the first place. There's just something here, something bothering me. This feeling, of shameless hypocrisy. If people gave a **** about human life, We would risk our lives to defeat the tyrants of our world, but we don't do that. The only thing we can do? is to cower in fear, and pathetically cling to our lives. What makes us want to live so much? What has humanity done to want to live so much? Maybe hitting that gym once more and dying is better than staying home and clinging to our useless asses. Protect the vulnerable, hah. The vulnerable? the old? I know of so many more who are so much more vulnerable and we never gave a ****. I give no shits about the old.

This $1000 check, assuming to all adults, costs the treasury about $209b. And I guess it helps supplement a paycheck for what... two weeks? Sounds like this virus is going to be around a while.

Is it going to cost the treasury a trillion a month to prop everything up?

Note - GM and Ford just announced they are shutting down production lines at least until the end of the month. I hear construction projects are shutting down all over Maryland.. but have not seen news headlines about that yet.

This feeling, of shameless hypocrisy.
i have this feeling there are many out there like you...thank God you are not in the majority!!!

Don't be so sure. The majority is a hard thing to pin down....and. Sigh. Well, regardless of my rant, the gyms are closed. I am home.

I hear construction projects are shutting down all over Maryland.. but have not seen news headlines about that yet.
if I understood correctly the $1,000 is to make up for difference between unemployment and regular pay. for some people this will be a big deal.

I don't. Not at all. Hate me if you want. I am not, and never was, under the illusion that this life is some given, some permanent thing. Anybody can die at any time.
Running a cycle are we?

You have basically just said, "I have no regard for other people, therefore nobody else does either".
I'm really sorry you feel that way, but you are very wrong.

Somebody had to be the bad guy. Technically I can prove you wrong, If I wanted to. It is true that people don't care about each other. I won't argue that, because I am not happy about it or encourage it. I am just pissed. and well, look. If I was sick, I would stay away from Old people, of course I would. I am not out to hurt people. BUT. I am 100% positive that there is a bit of hypocrisy out there. If people can respond like this to a virus, we could defeat other far more serious stuff as well. I won't name that stuff here. What I am pointing out is- When it comes to saving our own hide, we are at the front desk. And it's all about saving your own hide, people say it's for others, no it's not. yeah, I am a cynic. I won't apologise for that. You don't have to like me or bear with me. If the same concerned people out there were so noble, they would have cared about so much more than this. That does include me. That's what it's all about. When there is no virus, I don't make this world a better place. Now that there's a virus, I will pretend I care about others when really all I want is not to get sick myself? I won't do it. So, I will say that I don't give a ****. Either way, I am taking precautions. Not going places, washing etc. But, I am doing it for myself and, for the gym, I would put myself at risk. The consequences of that are not within my view. Not wishing ill, not wishing well.

LOL.
Nope. You cannot.

That's like me telling you, I can prove you aren't a man.
You've been a man a good long while, seen it for yourself ...proved it.
Therefore someone coming along, a saying, "I can prove you're wrong" about it, is not only wrong. But really deserves a laugh about believing that. :)

Well, fine. You don't share my cynicism. That's only a good thing. I wish you continue believing this as long as possible. and that somehow, you are right and I am wrong.

I didn't say that ALL people care.

You could probably show me that some don't care (I could).
And I know for a fact that (given the right opportunity) I could show you that some most definitely do.

Everybody gets cyclical sometimes, my friend.
It's just not a good place to live.

Can I tip my fedora in your general direction? I agree. Sorry, I am in gym withdrawal. I didn't think the day would arrive when I would have to join the ranks of the filthy unpure calisthenics freaks. Just the word sends a shiver down your spine.

Thanks brother.

The majority of my muscle has (by far) been put on outside of public gyms.
I'm old-school. :)

That's actually cool. Somewhere, I felt a little excited to see how much I can get out of limited equipment, like a good challenge. Somewhere. Can you go into some detail?

I've used a lot of different things over the years... Door frames, pushups, etc ....

But most of my muscle was put on at home with a bench, bars, and lots of iron, man.
