To put in lifting terms. I went from benching 185 to 225...still sucks...but getting better. I miss repping 500 plus...I suck at what I do know. The urge to jump on a heavy test cycle and just start pounding food and weights is very strong...lol.

Unpopular opinion and I’m not trying to discourage you, but I feel like going from your past to the new cardiovascular endeavors could have some ill effects. The stress you have placed on your system in the past and current training might have some unknown negatives. While I agree that your past training/lifestyle wasn’t sustainable, endurance training is very stressful(past beneficial hormesis). These might be chronically elevated stress hormones, training the beat to beat variability out of your heart, and increased joint degradation.

Healthy diet+moderate strength training+lifestyle modifications are superior to long term cardio endeavors.

Being thin isn’t the only correlation for health but if you really do it cause you enjoy that’s cool. I just think there are better ways to obtain health if that is your goal.
First, subbed! This is a really cool log and I’m excited for you and your journey.

I do think you should consider Thor70s post some as you begin to explore triathlon. I was a triathlete in the late 90 yo mid 2000s, worked up to several 70.3s. Right about that time, the community just started realizing the damage that all of that excessive cardio could do to your heart. Lots of “pros” started retiring as they were warned by doctors that the inflammation was testing their bodies, and their hearts up. In fact, it’s been proven that your heart basically looks like it had a heart attack after a Ironman distance race.

So I’m all for this, just ease into it and give your body time to adjust. And I would highly recommend a full cardio scan (EKG, blood work, ct scan, and a calcium score test). If things look off, address then before you keep slapping on the miles.

Also, good for you for starting TRT now... too many endurance athletes burn out because they don’t recover enough and end up with low T.

Yes, I had all of that done a few weeks in as my Dr thought I was nuts. I was surprised to learn that walking around as a 340 pound powerlifter for 20 years didnt damage my heart. Everything checked out great. 3 months ago I was able to come off of BP meds. Now resting HR is in the 40s and BP is like 100 over 60 with no meds. I started this journey in july at 340 pounds..solid. Benching in the high 5s...with all other numbers very solid as well. At 45, I took it about as far as I could, so I switched gears. Now Im about 240 and my running times are continuing to improve..as they should because Im still slower than a snail going up a down escalator..lol. Im not looking to win any Triathlons, I just want to finish a few and see how it goes. But thanks for the support!

Todays run. Still trying to figure out the food. Running in a caloric deficit sucks my ass. When I have some cals in me, especially carbs, running feels way better and I'm much faster..but my weight doesnt budge. I know running at around 215 would be much easier than at 240...so trying to learn how to have successful runs while shedding some pounds.

Todays run. Overdressed and overheated and dehydrated. Since Im out for like 3 hours, I got a camel back last night will be trying it out tomorrow...little backpack that holds fluid with a hose to drink from. There are no water sources on my run and once I dehydrate its a wrap.

Ran my first marathon distance. Took me all day. 5.3 hours...lol. Have been on 125 test cyp ew. The cyp keeps my weight at 240...dropping down to low 230s after a run. Going to add weights in Jan. Do not want to blow up..wich is super easy for me to do. So Im going to have to be super careful with cals. Also...I have a ton of winny that Im currently not using. Thoughts ideas? I think I have over 1000 50mg tabs.

Gw. For endurance. I would save the var if you are going for weight loss . Gh frag is also good for weight loss and hex. Hex only works for about 2 weeks but it works well.
If you really want to kick start it run t3 at 25 mcg 2x a day . I am taking that and even when my diet isn't right I still lose weight . Just make sure you run test with t3. I ran hex over thanks giving cheated on my diet and lost 8 pounds .

Yeah, I used to have a bunch of pharm cytomel..t3..50mcg tabs do to being hypo. Maybe Ill go back to the endo doc. I think 230 is probably as light as Im going to get...I think with carb restriction I can get there with no drugs though.

I remember that guy
Well starting jan Im back in the gym. However, keeping my body weight down is going to be an issue. Ill see how it goes. Its like if i even think about lifting i start gaining weight. I know for a fact, i could be 340 again in 4 months if I wanted to. It is so easy for me to blow up...but I dont want to. Im going to keep cals and carbs low, continue to run, lift on my previous training schedule, and shoot for a very toned 240..which is what I weigh now.

Today was the 1st day back on the weights...lol..dont even know what to say. I was embarrassed fellas. So very very very far away from what I used to be. The only cool thing is that progress should be very fast and results should come quickly..that will keep me motivated.

Don’t worry about it swimfan, with all your fat loss recently of course you have probably lost some muscle and can’t lift as much, but you are going to look shredded when it is all said and done! It takes a lot more focus on additional factors beyond weight lifting such as working on diet and cardio too to achieve a shredded physique as opposed to a more muscular, but chubbier bulker one. Anyone can achieve the latter physique, but the former in my opinion is more prized and takes much more work and effort. You are on your way good to looking shredded! Keep up the good work with lifting also incorporated into your program alongside cardio and diet for a balanced healthy approach.

Yes..thank you. Honestly, getting to 340 was pretty damn hard..staying there was even harder. Eating, cooking, and training was like all I did. I lived in a complete box for many years...super focused on my power lifting goals. Going to be weird having the goal be whats in the mirror instead of whats on the bar..lol

Let me tell you how weak I am now. Struggling for sets of 10 at 225 on bench...lol. This sucks. Ive upped cals, meals, and protein, intake..have decreased running to 3 to 5 a day. Weight has already jumped to almost 250. Test at 500 wk with winny at 50mg a day until I hit 265 or 270...then back down to a trt dose and might do a few short tren A blasts with the trt and shred up for summer. Ive had forgotten what its like to be sore..lol. Today will be tris and back, 3 miles walking...cause I have stuff to do..and 2 miles running later tonight. Been up since 4. Meal 1 was 8 whole eggs and dry white toast. Meal 2 was 1 chicken breast 1 scoop brown rice handful of veggies. I will eat 1 more meal before I train..same as meal number 2. Meals 4 and 5 will be the same but will add black beans. Snack tonight will be scrambled eggs and chedder cheese.

Weight up to 253. Doing about a pound a day. Eating clean, almost no carbs maybe 100 grams just so I can train. Yesterday did 6 miles and trained back and tris, ate like a champ..8 meals..eggs, chicken, pork, rice, more eggs, cheese, more chicken, hamburger patties..probably a pound. Still weak as hell. Running 500 E every 3 days 50 winny ED. Joints a little dry..not too bad though..most in my hands and fingers. Also jumped on Lisinapril 40 mg a day and hydrochlorithizide 50 mg a day just to be safe. Watching BP daily..thanks DC.

Are you running an AI with the test? If so might want to decrease the dosage and see if that helps your joints.

Dropped down into to the 240s this AM. Im going to cut back on the running. Again..looking for a lean 265 to 275. Remember guys im like 6'5 or 6'6 and 46 years old. In july I weighed 340 and was powerlifting crazy weight. Now Im a chick in the gym...lol. Im just going to keep grinding..like I do. Keep eating..like I do, and be patient..it will come back. No progress with the weights yet, only on day 5 back though. Still lifting through through crazy soreness. Dont tell me I shouldnt do that..Im going to do it anyway..this aint my first rodeo. Will post a pathetic starting pic soon. Dont hate. This will be after losing 100 lbs..mostly muscle by running 8 to 10 miles a day and not lifting for 6 months.

Made some progress I think...Yesterday I did a heavy set of military press with 225. Long way from the 405 I was doing, but it felt good. Going through about 4lb of chicken breast a day, a dozen eggs, lb of lean ground beef every 2 days, Large box of rice every 3 days. 3 cans of beans a day. Probably .25lb of cheese a day. Doing 6 to 8 meals. Have cut running back to 4 miles..slower pace. I knew this would happen..as soon as I touched a weight it was time to get bigger and stronger..its either all or nothing. I wish i was wired different sometimes.

Also had 1 large bowl of potato soup, 1 large bowl of chilli, 1 large bowl of shredded chicken and cheese. 2 pbjs for snack. Felt pretty good in the gym. Still very weak. Soreness is almost gone. Today is my off day. Going to get my eat on. Already thinking about bench tomorrow. I knew this was going to happen as soon as I touched a weight...the switch got flipped. Screw it. Last week I struggled to get 10 with 225 at a 248 body weight. Tomorrow Im hoping to be 255...and hoping to see some damn improvement! Feeling a lot fuller.
