Health scare

This is going to be sort of a public service announcement, but I believe worth getting out there. Last week while taking a break at work I started choking on a protein bar. I could not get the lodged piece to clear. Started coughing up blood. Not good...

Had to have a procedure done to remove blockage. In the recovery room I was informed that I had torn the lining in my esophagus and that I also had a stricture or shrinking of the esophagus. Once the tear heals, I will need another procedure to open the tightened area. Been on an all liquid diet for a week. Just now was able to upgrade to scrambled egg consistency foods. Will be at least another week before solid foods(meat). Down 10lbs and no gym time until cleared by Dr.

The point of all this is that if you are having ANY issues while eating, get it checked out. This is a very common problem as we age and can be taken care of without the mess I got myself into. I've been dealing with this eating/choking issue for about a year without saying anything because I could always get it to clear. Not this time.

Got some good news from the doc today. I can slowly start adding bulkier food items. Let me tell you, mashed potatoes and gravy never tasted so good!! My wife is a fantastic cook and has a very creative meal plan set up. God love her...

Also was given the green light to to start working out again. Gonna be very easy going for a while, but will be nice to get back at it. Thanks for all the well issues my friends.

I've done the same thing when I was much younger. I think it's called a Mallory Weiss tear. I got it from vomiting after running hard.

My esophagus is all sorts of messed up from taking oral steroids. I can not eat any food like rice, etc without sauce or else I will definitely choke. I remember almost dying once from a blockage while I was home alone. I drank water to clear it, but it would not clear, and the water rose up my esophagus and into my windpipe. Was super scary.

It's called dysphagia and the restriction in the esophagus is what I have. It's possibly triggered by a food allergy if its something that only happens sometimes and not constantly. I know what it's like bro, getting those endoscopies with the camera are horrible, hope you get it sorted.

Procedure went well. Soft foods for a couple days, then slowly add solids back in. And you are right "thebigt", I tell her everyday. She's not only a great cook, but also my workout partner. That's as good as it gets!!
