TRT TD - Stupid?

Tell him your insurance requires prior authorization for the gel but doesn’t for the injectable.

I don’t mean to sound like a beoch, I’ve pinned a cycle before, but wouldn’t this be easier? Then pin during a blast?

Transdermal test is garbage in comparison to IM from what I’ve heard. You could go subq with test c if you wanted to as well.

They would up my dose until I maintain the right level though ... so I fail to see the need to pin outside of a blast

IM is superior to TD. I sometimes use TDs, including Testosterone, but the difference is, I can control my dosages.

Is IM superior because of cost and accuracy of dose?

Assuming I just want to cruise on TD and would pin on blast and my doc will adjust to obtain proper levels on cruise... what are the benefits of IM on normal cruise?

Expense, lower levels will be considered acceptable, discomfort of patches, if a gel you have to worry about transfer to ladies and young ones, you have to consider contact transfer of the steroid...

Easier? Putting on a gel 1-2 times a day, or pinning once a week? Obviously pinning is easier and less time consuming with higher efficacy.

Everyone mentioned drawbacks or that IM was better. Bottom line patches are less efficient at supplying testosterone than IM shots.

Are you just looking for someone to tell you that what you want to do is the best or equal way to do it? I don't think anyone is going to say it is.

If you just don't want to pin for TRT then don't... whether it is as efficient or not is not as important as you simply not wanting to give yourself a shot unless on a cycle where you have more to gain from the pain. Once at a normal level with the patches or gel things will be kind of equal effectwise. However I "think" most people I know on patches or TD normally have lower T levels than mine stay at with the IM. Probably because it is more efficient and cheaper.

Yeah...cost mainly, because it is more difficult to obtain higher blood level concentrations with TDs. ... And from reading, that seems even more common with Prescription TDs than with non Prescription.

Assuming that he would be willing to do whatever it takes to get you to proper levels SEEMS to be a big assumption, to me. I've talked to a couple of guys who were happy with their Prescribed Test TD, but not many. It seems like far more are unhappy with it. .... But who knows... maybe they are just more vocal about their situation.

You could start another thread. Something like, "Are you happy with your Prescribed TD TRT?"

Renew1 Nice to see another respected member echo the part about the doctors not trying to push the numbers up too high with TD. It seems like most I have talked to said their levels were normally 400-500 on TD... I didn't want to go into that detail but since you kind of brought it up...

I was looking to get on TRT due to low test symptoms at 385... had to wait for it to drop below 300 to get on, but had already been losing motivation and sex drive at 385... bumping me to 400-500 would not have been very satisfying.

Yeah, brother. Think about it.... How many comments have we ever read, or people have we talked to that said something like..."I'm very satisfied with my TD TRT."?
Amost none.

It’s extremely difficult to get and maintain proper blood levels with td test such as androgel. You’d be slathering a ton on three or four times a day.

With injections you can get up in the 900-1200 range and feel great, and provided your doctor likes you up at the top end of normal you’re set.

Want someone to convince me. You’ve done so. Much appreciated!

Excellent! Glad to be of assistance and thanks for not taking offense at me asking what you were looking for. Some people get bent out of shape at my directness.

Well, with gel you have apply every day, preferably at the same time after a shower, with injections you can get away with pinning just 1x a week, plus it’s much more stable. I done both, injections is better

I wouldn't sweat it either way. Doc had me on Axiron, and I had Zero problems at all. 4 squirts a day had me at 900 TT. Insurance changed, and now I'm on injectables, TT is around 500.

Just take what he gives you and over time if you decide you don’t like the gel then tell him you still don’t feel right in spite of whatever your test number is. Maybe then he’ll switch you. But I know someone who used the gel and thought it was pretty sweet. Sure, IM is probably better or more efficient but I’m sure the gel is alright to start.

Depends on the gel. Androgel won’t hardly do a damn thing. And that’s the number one they try to use.

I agree and thank you all for the wisdom. Assuming the doc agrees to trt I am going to ask for IM. If he disagrees I will take my labs elsewhere. Thanks all

When you go to the optometrist he doesn’t just give you lenses that will make you legally pass as sighted. He fits you with a good prescription that will have you seeing better than anyone without glasses.

Your trt doc should be the same way, aiming to optimize your hormonal levels, not just settling for “good enough”
