(Printable hearts) Taking more risks NOW due to future advances in medicine.

I've always been a futurist and deeply interested in bio-technology and radical life extension. From what I gather listening/reading to Aubrey De Gray and other prominent scientists/doctors in the fields of bio-technology, genetics, medicine etc. Unless we have some kind of major dark age happen in the next 10-30 years these fields will be able to treat a vast majority of AAS related long term health risks even the more severe ones like organ destruction! "Printable" organs have already been made and functioned successfully in labs so even if it takes 20 years to perfect this technology. No big deal!

I am not saying I am going to do this, I don't need to take major risks to meat any of my goals. But if I were to show some promise in the competitive arena I would completely go for it without regard to future health problems that I might encounter 50> my reasoning is, is either we made great strides in medicine and have a standing army of nano bots in our blood to repair our bodies, genetics therapy, etc, or we entered some kind of dark age and science stalled due to some kind of global calamity! It other words if my hopes of advanced medicine were dashed that means the world is likely now not an inviting place to live anymore at that time (In short I would welcome death due to the unbelievable disappointment I would experience in that circumstance.)

Think about it if we don't do even 1/5 of the the SENS foundations goals in 20-30 years, that means we made no notable progress in many of the most key fields in science!

Does anybody else feel this way? I can easily see how this mindset could backfire or be used as a crutch to me mindlessly reckless. That being said I've always felt this way in other domains, and hence have always been open to taking more risks than many of my peers.

Or the breakthrough treatment/device/tech comes out in 21 years but your risky choices over decades destroy your body in 20. Or it costs a ton of money at first, etc.

Very true. Lmao If I'm not a rich ****er in 20 years, again death I welcome thee! My half-kidding aside. Fortunately due to the internet/social media there is always a steady stream of updates on how those technologies are coming along, also fairly easy to contact the scientists and researchers these days. You can literally find them on FB or their faculty Email and they're usually very happy to answer questions about their field and work since not many people take an interest in them specifically or the work they're doing at the time. (I call them the nameless coats! They are actually the ones doing most of the actual work).

For getting in touch with the more prominent scientists usually being a donor helps since many of the projects are very hand to mouth. Granted this is hardly reliable or foolproof. I am lucky to live a town over from Aubrey De Gray so whenever he does meetups for SENS I plan on attending in the future now that I've learned that.

This is a terrible belief to leverage and the ultimate justification to make poor choices. Why do so many people so readily place such a strong faith in the healthcare/pharma industry which has hijacked the educational and academic system and blocked real progress from occuring in many ways. Health is wealth and protecting health is survival. This is life.

They were saying the same about nano-tech and stem cells 25 years ago when cloning was banned after Dolly the sheep was made.
3D printing is moving forward pretty well though.

LOL. Some of the younger guys will probably be all over this.

What exactly are you achieving that makes one risk their health and be hoping to have future advancements make up for the vanity?

Fair question.

Mostly just one of many ways of dealing with boredom lol, most people have plenty to keep them busy. When you have nothing but time you tend to seek out and latch onto anything you can to feel a little excitement. Poor Dan Bliz is so far down that rabbit whole that even his crazy stunts/banging models on the daily barley puts a smile on his face half the time. True deep boredom is worth than death if ask me. Far worse. But most are to busy living day to day life to ever have to find that out. Death is fast and once it happens there is no "you" to angst about it. But boredom you have to face every waking minute like slow torture day in and day out. It wears on one very quickly.
