Quick update. After running away from Irma, we decided to wait it out in Lake City. I build a barricade against the window, out of a mattress , a table and a chair..... electricity went out , then Irma arrived! What a disappointment, turned out, Irma was merely a moist fart. Now we are in Panama City with sunshine, beach and rum!
Im glad my fellow AM brothers survived Irma as well!

Glad that you made it to the beach and liquor! :D Be glad that Irma came up the middle of the state, losing all her power along the way. We are very thankful that she was just a TS by the time she hit Jax, but several homes on my street were still destroyed by trees :(

Looks pretty enjoy your stay HGP!!!! What kind of rum you drinking? I have a newfound respect for rum after going to a Cuban place and having some of their high dollar rums. They had a deal called the Rum Flight, where you got a half shot of 4 different types of rum to sip on for $20. Which was great because just one shot of any of them was $18 minimum and up to $24. Amazing sipping stuff!!!!!

I meant the metaphorical "Rum". Not drinking too much alcohol here. Bought a small bottle of Jim Beam , sharing it with my wife.
Your "Rum adventure" sounds awesome! Trying this now would leave me "instant-single", lol. Have to drive family to restaurants and shopping, plan events and carry beach chairs around.
Tomorrow we go camping again, near Gainsville. Scuba diving in some natural springs, after that moving slowly southwards to catch the flight back home.

Yeah, although I have a feeling 2 shots of rum would not have much affect on you, driving an RV is challenging enough without possibly having a buzz. Scuba diving in the natural springs sounds awesome.

The RV plans were cancelled earlier, I rented an SUV Jeep, bought a tent, portable grill and folding chairs. Hopping from hotels to camp grounds, doing it the old style. For my daughter, being without cellphone signal was a life changing event, lol. Much needed! She made friends with squirrels and scuba dives for hours. Old mother nature, you can't beat that!
Now after 3 days hotel and beach, its time for camping again, after that a surprise visit to Universal Orlando, then home.

There are some awesome natural springs to dive and also spring fed rivers to float down. The Ichetucknee Springs State Park is a treat. If you venture down it be on the lookout for the many natural springs hidden just off the river along the way. Some pretty cool places to "visit" while taking a break from floating along. Granted it has been 30 or so years since I went there, but it was an experience that stuck with me.

Oh I bet, mother nature is awesome and kids seem to have no idea about it.

Universal is definitely the best park in Orlando!!!! Disney is great when your kids are young, but Universal blows it away as far as being fun for the whole family!!!!

Oh by the way hairygrandpa, & GreenMachineX - Make sure that you buy the VIP tickets so you can skip the longer queues. It is a lot more expensive but the lines are 15 minutes instead of 2 hours. If you are only going to have one day you won't get to do much if in the longer lines. I think it almost doubled the price of admission but easily tripled, maybe even quadrupled the amount of rides we were able to get on. Also I think you can buy them online cheaper than at the gate.

We're doing 3 days at each park and already bought our tickets with a military discount. I don't think we could afford the prices your talking about!

Yeah if you are doing 3 days at each park then you will more than likely get to see the same amount of stuff and maybe more. Just be ready for the very long lines. How old are the kids?

Son is 5 and daughter is 7. They're pumped. It's funny, my son and I can't wait for Universal and my wife and daughter can't wait for Disney.

A little of both, although the daughter (just turned 10) is more interested in Disney now. She was only mildly into it when we went 5 or so years ago, back when were lived out of state and paid full price, no less.

Since moving back their choice was an annual pass to Sea World (+ Busch Gardens) with a dedicated trip to Discovery Cove. We made 5 or 6 trips to Orlando with two of those including day trips to Tampa. We definitely got our $$ worth out of those tickets.

Disney parks are fun, Animal Kingdom, Disney, Blizzard Beach and the rest. We also like popping down for the weekend and going to Downtown Disney for the weekend shows, shopping and dining.

Yeah, that sounds about right actually. It is pretty normal and more accepted for girls to like the cutesy things a bit longer. Boys seem to like the excitement of the rides at Universal more in general.

So many more parts to Disney than I knew about. Downtown Disney huh? Is it like a little Vegas strip minus the gambling? All I really remembered was Disney, Epcot, and Universal. Now that you mentioned it I remember the Animal Kingdom but we didn't get to go to that.

Downtown Disney is an outdoor mall that is owned by Disney, so it is "all Disney". No admission fees. They also have characters and sometimes shows put on by Disney in the main courtyard. In the summer time they have a large "fountain" that the kids can play in (a large flat area with water spouts up from the ground). It is on the same lake as the Treehouses, Saratoga Springs and a couple of the other "Disney resort" properties (can take a water taxi to/from them to Downtown Disney). If you are travelling on I-4 and see a large hot air balloon in the sky, going up and down in a fixed location, that is Downtown Disney (you can ride the balloon). The area reminds me a bit of
Main Street in the Disney park.

EDIT: There is the T-Rex diner and Rainforest Cafe for "fun" dining.

I also see that they refer to Downtown Disney as the "Marketplace" now.

Good to know, I have a lot of family in Florida so I am sure there will be another trip to Disney at some point!
 
After 3 weeks of "vacations", I'm back home and did my first workout.
Exhaustive volume, 3-4 sets of everything, 90 minutes workout.

LOL. The sheriff were polite and friendly, no cavity search -or ticket, only a warning. I tried to pass 7 cars at once, that drove behind a slow camper on a rural road.

Too much to share about my "Irma evacuation", I'm too lazy to write about it.
America is at least 150 years ahead of bananaland, when it comes to roads, bridges and recreation. Well, but here are no hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes or nuclear power plants, that's a plus.

I met all kind of people there. My overall experience was good, as most people were polite and friendly, even the crackheads at the campground, who sort off perma-lived in a tent with their pitbull called "magnum".
