Automatic tech is capable of simply giving people what they need, or at a very low cost. This of course depends on certain factors and powers but eventually it will happen.

Its going to be impossible to keep things the way they are. Hey Im scared of change myself, but things are really really going to change over the next couple of decades and people need to prepare and figure out how to adapt into it....but hopefully we can help people left behind as well and adapt education to prepare our youth to thrive in it.

I realize this, but I am not crusading for my own personal benefit, I will be fine....I am concerned for those who are not equipped for a changing world, what do we do with these people? there are many, many marginal people who are now working low paying jobs who won't have jobs-and it seems no one is concerned about this!!!

There are always going to be those jobs in some form and there is nothing wrong with those jobs. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way saying they are bad jobs or looking down on anybody. However, I don't need 3 people just standing behind the counter at the burger place when I'm telling them literally what button to push and then have to swipe my own card and then have to come back because they got the order wrong. Even sticking with fast food as an example...with kiosks up front there still needs to be cooks and janitorial staff in the back.

Oh Im concerned...there are people concerned.

There are solutions for the future that have been presented such as changing the economy to a "Resource Based Economy" by Jacque Fresco....like I said before it will get to the point where they will just give people what they need.

I think energies would be better use now to come up with the solutions than fighting to resist change so hard because as we both agree change is inevitable, but solutions are certainly possible and to make it even better than the way it is today.....should powers on top not be in our way of course. In the meantime I can understand why people want to protest against automation and minimum wages, until these solutions are on the plate people damn well have the right to fight for their survival :)

Maybe I'm being very cold about this, but I'm not talking about people are physcially or mentally incapable of holding a job that is more complex. If Trump has his way there are about to be a whole lot of job slots available.

I would rather see those 3 people standing behind a counter, reporting to work and getting a paycheck than standing on a street corner with nothing to do....better start building more and bigger jails and prisons.

and yes, it does sound like you are looking down on them, sorry but it really does---at least to me....if I wanted to look down on anyone it would be those who are well paid and highly educated who waste most of the work day on the internet[not work related].....merely pointing out that you don't have to be a fast food worker to be non-productive in the work place, fast food workers are just more visible.

i am not in favor of higher unemployment. I would rather see people working.

The issue I have is competence and quality of work (service in this case). As a consumer I don't want to pay the rising costs (cost of services and good) and experience a decline in both.

We've all been to a place for dinner where the "waitor/waitress" was able to make mediocre food into a great experience by their competence. We've also been to places where a poor "waiter/waitress" was able to make high end food into a poor experience by their incompetence.

When the competence and qualifications of the service provider hinder my quality of goods and services I have issue with it. Simply because a person gains employment as a food server does not make them a good one.

We wouldn't tolerate that with our health care provider, our auto mechanic, our house painter or even child care givers. There are other jobs better suited for less of more competence and qualifications respectively.

I see incompetence in every line of work....look at how much redundancy there is in health care-you give all the info to the nurse when she/he takes your vitals and they write it down on your chart, then you see the doctor and he asks you the same questions, like he/she hasn't even read the chart. or you have acid reflux and the doctor prescribes high doses of advil.

how many have you had your vehicle worked on and 2 weeks later[or sooner] you come back...don't even get me started on plumbers and electricians!!!

As for me, I spent an extra 12 years in school after high school. My father was unemployed most of my life and my mother worked as a secretary. I took out school loans north of 100k so that I could achieve what I wanted to do. And after all of that, it's Saturday night and I'm sitting here doing work. So if I want to spend part of that time on the internet, that's my choice. And if a McJob is the only thing keeping somebody from robbing a bank, then guess what is eventually going to happen regardless if they get replaced with a computer?
 
IMO I do not think the world will change as much as you guys think it's going to. Hell we were supposed to have flying cars in 2000 then travel in tubes by 2007 or be terminated by 2016(sorry I had to I love Terminator). Yes things will change we will have less low level jobs but it won't be a drastic change.

The current work environment is not the same as it was 30 years ago. I don't get why bigt thinks that nobody is going to have a job to buy anything if it changes again. There will always be low level jobs; they just might be different from the ones currently available. People move and adapt.

ok, lets compare...I was born in 1958, my father was killed in a train wreck 8 months later-it was his fault, he was late for work and thought he could beat it...my mom raised me as a single mother at a time when the nuclear family was still intact, we lived a block from the biggest project in Indianapolis[brick city] in abject poverty-my mother and I received no government handouts. I got in lots of fights when I was a kid, life was tough not having a dad to back me up, but it made me strong!!!

I worked in the box factory business for nearly thirty years, starting when most of the work was physical labor. I worked my way up and by the time international paper closed down the plant I was working at I was capable of running every machine in the plant-which had all been automated and was very high tech-set up was all done by computer by that time, I learned by ON THE JOB TRAINING, a good majority of the work was robotic.

after my plant was closed down, I applied for unemployment, after 2 months I decided unemployment was not for me, so I sold out my 401k [at a heavy, heavy loss-this was in 2008] and paid heavy penalties..then I sold our house and moved to a smaller city. I used the money from my 401k and the proceeds from selling the house to invest in starting a landscaping/mowing/snow removal company, it was my entire life's savings....

so don't go bitching to me about your god damned loans!!!

Why are you taking what I am saying as a personal attack? I'm talking about the people in your situation who would have protested and demanded more money rather than do what you did which is ADAPT. But if you just want to keep slinging insults, find another ****ing target.

actually I was merely pointing out that your college loans are small potato's compared to what some have endured....me-I've always had things tough, I learned to adapt in kindergarten....I consider myself a success story, but I will never forget how lucky I have been, and will always feel compassion for the large number of people that I grew up with who have not been so lucky/successful.

How is your landscaping business? I owned one for a long time and the money can be good but it's can also be a bitçh to get up and going. I personally fuking hated it. But I did do well. So I hope that it's treating you well

this is my 4th year, I broke even the 2nd year, since then I have learned the bidding game much better and got myself and 2 others certified to do weed spray application[here in Indiana you need to be licensed to do commercial weed spraying], lots of money in weed control. spent a fortune in plows/trucks/trailers/mowers/weed eaters/rakes and so forth....i pay more than most of my competitors and i have to bid a little more, it hurt me at 1st, but now the quality of work is getting known and there are more and more company's who are willing to pay more for quality work....it was a true gamble putting everything I own into it, but things are going nicely now and getting better each year.

I feel blessed to say that I have overcome poverty, drugs, and alcoholism...I will pray that you will open your heart and be more compassionate to those not so fortunate as you and I!!!

That's exactly how I ran mine spend more for quality taking lower/no profits at first. But like you said the word will spread and in turn makes you more money.

yes, indeed...getting licenses for weed spraying has really paid off, they have been cracking down on company's with no licenses and I've been really cashing in-with as warm and wet[rain] as this winter has been it's going to be weed city, lol. hardly any investment in weed control-generic roundup is very cheap...much cheaper than buying salt for snow and ice.

BarrySoetoroCare's replacement plan is under 100 pages, half of it being repeal alone. Sounds better than 10,000+ pages that nobody read when passing it through that included non-health care issues such as student loans.

At least this bill is something I can actually read in its entirety in a sitting. Now lets see whats in it.

The main reason people buy those things is appearances, man. Those are status items to take their mind off being poor. At least IMO.

lol...just like back in the day when welfare people lived in crappy houses but drove fancy cars, and wore designer clothes....the cars could be moved when the 'revenuer man' came around.

When I was 12 (1977) I was a paperboy delivering the NY Daily News. Leather Pumas were the status sneaker of the day. I saved up $60 (in 1977) and bought a pair myself!

Playing in the urban pkayground of Bklyn NY those ****ers didn't last more than 6?weeks. Last pair of status anything I ever bought... :D

I did by a leather "bomber jacket" just a year later... ;)

thankfully I got them before I started high school, wearing buddies was not cool, lol.


I don't care how poor you are, if you are a kid there are standards that have to be met, lol!!!

unfortunately kids don't have paper routes for spending money these days....might be a reason crime is so high among young people???
