Douchebags at the gym...

I'll chime in on spotting because it's the elephant in this room.

I used to ask and do it for others, and if anyone asked me for one today, I'd be surprised because my gym sucks and doesn't have a free weight bench. I have to use the smith machine.

That said, having a spot is great for the following: (Some reiterations of others)

- 1 rep maximums (It happens)
- Those who are doing 2 second plus sets. (i.e., 8, 2, 2)
- Anyone whom is nervous benching, or squatting any weight, or new to weight lifting
- Someone recovering from an injury at times can cause sudden muscle or coordination failure
- They might be under age for the gym and require a spotter or accompaniment of an adult (Free weights, Liability)
- Big Baby Men (Just kidding) :D

Now, I don't want to get on anyone for having an opposite opinion for spotting. Some people don't feel
comfortable being a spotter.

An intersting point, some gyms have trainers (I used to been) whom would navigate the floor and be the spotter for anyone instead of members of the gym because they are bonded and insured against a potential law suit. Imagine spotting someone and they get hurt. Can they sue you? Maybe, but I'm not a lawyer. Can someone chime in on that potentiality?

I think it is important for people that do not feel comfortable spotting, or may have limited time in the gym to feel comfortable refusing. Reality is, the spotter is also placed at risk in many situations.

So true! I like to really straddle the head/face of the person I'm spotting so I don't hurt myself. I mean just getting right up there where my knees are touching their shoulders. For some reason, I never get asked to spot anyone anymore. Weird.

You could always wear your underwear on the outside of your gym pants... another benefit is, nobody will be asking to work in with you. :D

Better yet, you can wear them on your head and people will leave their machines when they see you walking up to them, giving you instant access to the entire gym, no questions asked.

I second that! PWO's (the good ones) put me in the zone where I am primarily just focused on my mission in the gym. Not to mention I am usually slightly out of breath due to the physical exertion so I am in no position to talk to anyone. I also hate it when people interrupt me and ask for a spot. First of all, I wear ear buds so I am not sure why people ask me when I obviously can't hear them...nor do I wish to. This also causes an interruption to my own plan and focus. This could just be my opinion; but if you feel the need to have someone spot for you...then the weight is simply too much for you. You need to be able to build up enough strength on your own through using lighter weights that you can handle and build yourself from there. If you are dependent on someone else to support your workout plan..that is a problem. On a side note though, the spotting requests have mostly been limited to gay men who seem to use it as an excuse to talk to me. So again...annoying.
If you don't have a spotter, you can't truly go to failure. Plus the whole dying if you do go to failure.
 
Douches I hate are those like last night, I left the gym the missus got there late and said shed do half hour weights after her cardio.

AS SOON as I left, she had a 'follower' trying to make eye contact and talk to her, sitting on the next machines, trying to strike conversation, knowing full well I was there prior.

She had her headphones in and kept her eyes on the weights (she just wants to work out without being hasselled.)

HIS MISSUS then comes over and they walk out together - he was trying to hit on her while his GF was the other side of the gym!

Made me angry, but shes a good one so Im not worried. I feel for her as she is gorgeous and must get hassled all the time

If a person is female and has any semblance of an intact vagina this is going to happen all the time. Everywhere , gym, grocery store etc starting during puberty age. While it's annoying, conversating isn't the worst that can happen to females in the gym

The half-reppers at my gym crossed the line.. they now leave the plates on bars, pull benches to the squat rack area and leave them there.. and they half rep with olympic belts, gloves, and versa grips. -_____-

What about the guy who does pull-ups with a 45lb plate on a belt, but then kipps/cheats every rep. Where's the logic in that? Lets add resistance to make the exercise harder, then cheat to make it easier! Next we'll see people wearing weight vests on the assisted pull-up machine.

When I went in, there was the typical group of bros upstairs with the heavier weights. As I'm looking around, ALL of the machines/benches had plates on them. Not a single one was on the plate rack. The bros were using some machine thing I've never seen before and left probably 200lbs of plates on it.

Needless to say, I didn't get a membership.

There's a girl that uses the power rack every day. Same exercises, reps, stretches... I usually get there before her but I don't know why I feel bad if I decided to use it one day. Lol, like I'll throw her off her damn routine but... F it. I just may squat tomorrow.

So they were on the leg press machine. As my aunt is mid rep, this bro comes over and starts grabbing plates off of the machine. I couldn't believe it. I was about 10 feet away using the dumbbells and I about lost my sh1t.

If my mom wasn't there, I Would've been yelling at him and cussing him out. I was so fccking pissed.

I really wanted to say something but my aunt has really bad anxiety and depression so Its been hard enough just to get her to go to the gym. If I did she probably wouldn't go back.

Thought my dad had taken it for my daughter and nephews to ride during their spring break so I didn't think twice about it not being here when I got home. Said something to my daughter about it as I was putting her to bed and she said that they hadn't riden it. Called my parents and they didn't have it. I really HATE thieves!!! I work too damn hard to get the little bit of money that we have for some a$$hole to come steal it! Really pisses me off to no end!!

Thieves. They steal things and time, then cost you more than financial concerns. It's the feelings that also pay the price.
I never forget when someone takes something from me, wether it is my time, or some thing. It's a character attribute or call it a flaw, but I hold a grudge for a very long time. I'm sorry to hear about this, so much it pains me. Taking from a child is the worst!

There's a lady in my gym who does these type of pullups. She makes it all the way up though and pauses, and she's also pretty jacked. I think even for this excersize he is not doing it right...
 
Im fixing to show my age☹️. I know this is pretty trivial..but as a lot of you know my main gym is on the college campus where I happen to be a fireman at. The football team has its own facility...but lately the baseball team has been coming in and working out at mine. Its 1/2 amusing and 1/2 annoying to watch these kids all wearing their ball caps pulled down over their eyes(if I cant see your eyes I wont even attempt to trust you)...they scream when they lift their massive @ss 135 pounds and no kidding...after every d@mn set they jump up and have to fist bump each other repeatedly. REALLY? What the farck are you celebrating? Because youre 19 years old and bench pressed or squatted your girlfriends weight? I look at it like this...if your boyfriend cant pick you up and pin you against the wall...you may have a girlfriend. Sorry..Ill tempered this morning.

The 2 half reppers at my gym have bow decided to overrun the gym... they took over a squat rack for horrible bouncing deadlifts, across the room the pull up bar for doing "pullups", across from there the kettle-bell area, and 2 treadmills to run their circuit....
 
Well, I don't know about douchebag, but I was certainly the gym idiot this Sunday.

So I've been playing around with deadlifting higher reps and was finishing my last set at 225. I wanted to place the bar on the rack, but needed to take about 3 steps forward to do so, but my grip.was slipping. The plan in my head was to do sort of a "half clean" to jump the bar up to readjust my grip without having to place it on the ground. Really dumb, period, let alone at the end of a final set.

So as I go to pull the bar up, my grip slips on one hand and I have to almost catch it on my thigh. I was losing balance and the bar must have hit a 30-40° angle before I was able to get it back under control.

Luckily I'm fine, but I'm blown away that after weightlifting my whole life, I did something so amateur and idiotic. Ugh.
 
Last time at the gym, I shared cables with a guy.
While waiting for my turn, I took a sip out of my shaker bottle and...WTF???... I had to spit it out, it was like battery acid mixed with cat piss -or something. Then I noticed the exact same shaker bottle standing a few feet away, MY shaker bottle.
The guy didn't see it and I pretended nothing happened.
Now wondering what the hell this dude is drinking.
