The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

Have had 3 Cheese Crown pints over the last year: pure tangy cheesecake base, glorious sweet pastry flakes, CTC like pastry pieces.

C'mon on now m8.
 
FWIW, my post wasn't an attempt to call you out, Dan lol (I know that seems to be a thing around here sometimes when it comes to food *cough protein bars cough*), but it was just kind of shocking that it was a disappointment to you.

If you got it scooped, maybe it was just a bad scoop? I don't know. Or it could just be a taste buds thing. But I'll say if you've had the B&J Pecan Sticky Buns and liked it, then something was wrong with the ice cream you got; because these were similar to my taste buds but Cheese Crown still won out for me.

Did you try a sample? 1-2 scoops or a pint of it? Throwing away 90% of it means you maybe had a few bites, if that much at all. Next time if worst comes to worst grab a buckeye :)

First off its a Cheescake ice cream, not a vanilla, and there is no wafer pieces.. it has cinnamon sugar pastry pieces and fondant icing flakes . Wondering if you had a bad experience, because it tastes FAR from vanilla with how strong the cheesecake base is.

yeah the base tastes nothing like cheescake. that was my big letdown... I stirred all throguh the pint and there were tons of the little pieces but they jsut tasted like nilla wafers (no cinn/sugar)... No sign of anyhting icing related either. Had the pint and piced all through it to make sure I wasn't missing something, but it just sucked. Graeters has lost my faith... only buckee has truly been "great". the rest ahve been decent or less.

GF (tried the dcssc this weekend) has been killing it for me tho.

Had the pecan and would put it leaps and bounds ahead of the cheese crown... CC is now on my never buy again list unfortunately. Just nothing like what i had hoped for. I didnt get any of the cheese/tang that you guys keep mentioning. Mix ins were plentiful, but just seemed like nilla wafers.

Have you tried cookies and cream Or black raspberry chocolate chip?
If not you need those Graeters

For throwing away 90% of the pint that would be like 40g if actual ice cream which is like 2 spoonfuls haha hard to judge off that based off what ya posted

trust me I had plenty to make a judgement... picked my way all through to make sure (even poured the pint out into a couple bowls to pick the mix ins ha). it was lame.

had the balck raz and it was decent, nothing spectacular (same choc chips as buckeye which area always a plus). cnc is the only other one i'll try, but hinestly that's not a unique flavor so I dont expect to be blown away.

it has full size oreo chunks throughout the entire pint. The sweet cream base is very good as well. It may be a basic flavor, but they nailed it.

Just polished off HT Sea Salt Caramel -- it's legit.

Would have to re-try Red Velvet to determine if it's better, but right now this is my top.

No mix-ins to be expected like the others, so that means the cals go to the actual ice cream flavoring. There are a few little pockets of caramel. Not tons, but enough to make it a winner.

Seriously enjoyed this one and it will be my go to Halo Top flavor until another one knocks it off.

Smores and Choc Almond still in the freezer to try.

Still need to find PB Cup and Oatmeal Cookie.
 
Tried out the chocolate almond crunch halo tonight... almost no choc flavor but heavy on the almond/almond extract flavoring. Has the extract smell and taste and is very good. If you want heavy almond with minimal choc this is perfect. Another winner IMO. Quite a few almond bits too

That's good to hear. I have that and Smores left to try.

I need to find those two others and hopefully can later this week.

I don't have a huge interest in pistachio or black cherry (whatever the other one was that had a fruit in it lol), so I likely won't be grabbing those. May grab pistachio down the line, but just isn't a huge draw for me.

Will definitely stock up on the caramel whenever it's in and on sale, though.

I was debating the pistachio last night too... not my bag, but unique enough to be intriguing. Might try another flavor tonight and/or tomorrow... Black cherry is prob great but you just have to be in a fruity mood ha.
 
Went for pistachio tonight... just had to find out. It's kinda odd, tastes nothing like anything nutty but it's a wonderful sweet cream type flavor. The green is just color and nothing to do with taste. It's honestly a very good, albeit simple flavor that I enjoyed a lot more than I thought. No chunks or anything tho in this one.

Cookies and cream is my thing and greeters is my favorite....so if nothing else its top tier version of one of the best flavors around

that's what I needed to hear... otherwise just ahving a bunch of oreos is something I can just add myself (and prob two whole boxes for the same price ha)

Sure you can. But you can also buy a generic vanilla base which is not quality premium ice cream, and won't be anywhere near the sweet cream base Greater's or chocolate shoppe offers.

So basically they took Cake My Day, and swapped the raspberry swirl for sprinkles
and the buttercream swirl for a vanilla frosting swirl..

CMD was surprisingly good tho... this is a flavor that I love so this one could be pretty solid.
 
Cake My Day wasn't my fave for the mix-ins but decent base

Getting my goodies off GNO finally (I know I'm a slacker) and just impulsively re-scooped a pint of Pecan Sticky Buns for tonight
 
Tried Smores and actually really liked it. Rank it up with Red Velvet and Caramel.

Tried Oatmeal Cookie and its good -- very unique. Ice cream is a good flavor and the oats are a nice touch, though admittedly I would almost prefer a consistency more like granola or cookie crumb over oat flakes.
 
Has anyone found/had a chance to try the PB Cup Halo Top yet? I still can't find it -- curious to see how it stacks up as it's one I was looking more forward to than some others.

Yep picked it up this weekend for the gf. It's been the fastest to sell out everywhere so I had to look every day to get it finally.

Barely any chocolate flavor, pretty much tastes like a frosty, there are pb swirls/globs throughout it tho and it has a decent amount of on flavor which is awesome. Still not my favorite as the s'mores and oatmeal I still think are better but it's really really good with the pb gobs

Cookie Dough is growing on me, but Red Velvet and Sea Salt Caramel are the clear top 2 for me right now.

those 3 and mocha chip (not new tho, just new to my area) are the ones I havent tried yet ha. not a huge rvc fan but ssc/cccd are both top flavors for me in anyhting.

I'm honestly not a huge red velvet fan (when it's done right I enjoy it, but a lot of the times I skip out on cakes/cupcakes), but I think it's just the uniqueness of it plus the quality of the mix-ins (for being a low-cal ice cream).

I was blown away by the caramel. Again, not what you're gonna get from a premium pint, but for a low cal ice cream, I was overly impressed with that one.

Cookie Dough has grown on me a touch. I think I just forgot how plain cookie dough ice cream really is (haven't had it in quite a while as just plain vanilla + cookie dough). So when I had another one the other night, I realized it's pretty spot-on to regular cookie dough ice cream; just with smaller chunks. So the flavoring on it and number of mix-ins is good for a low-cal option.
