Starting TRT

Well, the time has come. I talked to my doctor about some symptoms I was having and he tested my testosterone levels. It turned out that my free test was good, but my total test was well bellow normal. So, he prescribed androderm patches.

I've read up on this subject since he gave me the prescription, but now I'm wondering. I'm wondering if there is something else I should be taking to possibly affect my SHBG levels first? He didn't test those levels. I'm also wondering if an injection option might be better? This is a big step to take considering it will be a life long commitment.

Is there a way to restore my levels of I later decide this isn't for me? Say that six months I decide the blood tests or the cost are more than I want to deal with. Is there any going back? I guess that my initial excitement has given way to nerves.

I would personally go with injections. I've been on androgel and now take test E. Night and day difference. I'm also hypothyroid which affects the absorption of the gel... but I like injection better at least it's easier on the bank.

Patches didnt do a thing for me and not many people i know have done them but the two i know who did also didnt see much from them.

Name brand testosterone injections are the absolute best but not for everyone, if the patches work thats friggin awesome. Whatever works, works. But for real, always get name brand for hormones. When i switched from 9 months on a name brand to a generic my levels dropped from 780 to 500.

But, i digress...

If you choose to come "off" of your trt youd essentially do a pct protocol. Nolva combined with clomid for SERMS as well as HCG will get you going again soon enough. But talk to your endocrinologist about this or someone who knows you and can monitor your "recovery". Some say just nolva is fine, the addition of clomid does have a marked benefit (although youll also see some acne from it). HCG will really help your boys get back to doing what they do.
I chose to do this and 3 months after this " trt pct" my levels where actually better than they where before i began pct, they where nearly 500 while they where never far over 400 before.

Im not sure HCG is needed while on a patch, but thats something to talk to your endocrinologist about as im not a doctor nor you my patient.

Before you go though i would highly suggest searching through this forum or others and reading up on what HCG is, when to use it, and what to expect from it. When you know about it and have educated yourself then make your appointment. This way you can have a discussion With your endocrinologist rather than just him talk at you about something you dont truely understand.

The longer your on trt the harder it will be to bounce back naturally. 6 months isn't too long. Once you fee the benefits of high-normal test levels from trt I doubt you will want to go off anyway

I agree... my only concern with TRT is doctors who don't understand it completely. I've heard several people who's insurance change or get new doctors, or just want to see how they are functioning naturally and take them off cold turkey. If TRT is something your going to stay on I personally would find a good source and order a few amps or vial and a solid PCT just in case. I've heard more horror stories about ignorant doctors than I have success stories

You can always try a clomid protocol and see how it goes. Coming off TRT is very difficult task.

I came off TRT after 12 years in order to have kids and I am now at the bottom range within normal values for 7 years. Doctors here put you on test undecanoate which is unacceptable to me so I am still wondering if I will start TRT on my own with an ester of my liking or should I stick to what I produce
